Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Heart Surgery Theory emerges from the ongoing governance crisis in Indonesia's environmental sector, characterized by institutional fragmentation and sectoral disconnection. This theory proposes a collaborative governance approach that emphasizes spatial and temporal synchronization combined with the application of mutual accountability across sectors. The Cantelan mechanism anchors budgetary allocations (DIPA/DPA) to specific priority locations, ensuring the simultaneous presence of forestry, environment, public works, agriculture, and social sectors in critical ecosystems. This study applies a reflective literature review combined with lessons from national and international practices, including TVA (United States), MDBA (Australia), and ICPR (Europe). The results indicate that spatial-temporal locking and mutual accountability reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies, close governance loopholes, and strengthen bureaucratic integrity in ecosystem restoration efforts.

Abstract

The estuarine of Sungai Hitam in Bengkulu City represents a sandy terrestrial ecosystem characterized by a diverse assemblage of ground cover species, which collectively contribute to the ecological functionality of the immediate environment. This study aimed to identify the structural characteristics, species composition, and species diversity of the ecosystem's constituent flora. Fieldwork was conducted from January to February 2018. Data collection involved the systematic placement of 1m x 1m quadrat plots at 20m intervals. Subsequent data analysis utilized the Important Value Index (IVI) and Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H') equations. The findings revealed the presence of 79 species distributed across 22 families of ground cover plants. Sphagneticola trilobata (L.) was identified as the dominant species within this area, attributed to its robust adaptive capabilities and invasive characteristics. Despite this dominance, the overall species diversity was classified as high, evidenced by a diversity index value of 3.21. This high index signifies a relatively stable community structure and considerable ecological resilience against environmental disturbances.

Abstract

This study aimed to estimate the carbon stock in community plantation forests in Batu Jangkih Village, West Lombok Regency. Data collection was conducted through field observations using the systematic strip sampling method and analyzed with allometric equations specific to each tree species. The stand consisted of mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla), gmelina (Gmelina arborea), and teak (Tectona grandis), with a total of 6,919 individuals and an average density of 52 trees per hectare. The results showed that gmelina had the largest stand volume (7.05 m³/ha), followed by teak (2.36 m³/ha) and mahogany (1.21 m³/ha). Biomass and carbon stock estimations indicated that gmelina stored the highest amount of carbon (3,565.71 tons/ha), while mahogany and teak stored 1,361.79 tons/ha and 1,302.83 tons/ha, respectively. In total, the community plantation forest stored 81,131.35 tons of carbon or 6,230.33 tons/ha. This study demonstrates that stand volume and carbon storage potential are influenced not only by the number of individuals but also by growth rate and morphological characteristics of each tree species. The community plantation forest in Batu Jangkih Village plays an important role in climate change mitigation while also providing economic benefits to local communities.

Abstract

Kuala Tolam Village, Pelalawan Regency, has forest areas and peatland ecosystems that play an important role ecologically, economically, and socially for the community. However, these areas have been experiencing continuous decline and pressure due to industrial activities and land-clearing practices. This condition requires a deeper understanding of stakeholder perceptions of forest functions, as an essential basis for building a commitment to preserve and maintain the remaining forest areas. The purpose of this study is to analyze stakeholder perceptions of forest functions in efforts to maintain forest areas in Kuala Tolam Village, focusing on three aspects: economic, social, and ecological. The research employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches, using interviews with stakeholders who were involved in discussion forums for the formation of commitments to protect forest areas in Kuala Tolam Village. The results show that stakeholder perceptions of forest functions in Kuala Tolam Village fall into the “agree” category across all measured aspects economic, ecological, and social. The positive perceptions of stakeholders regarding forest functions indicate a collective awareness of the importance of forests for life. This awareness serves as social capital for building a shared commitment to safeguarding forest functions and areas.

Abstract

Swietenia mahagoni can grow on marginal land and is suitable for use as a revegetation plant. Peat is classified as marginal soil due to its high organic acid content and low levels of macronutrients. One approach to improving the productivity of peat soil is the application of ameliorants, one of which is oil palm boiler ash. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mixing peat with oil palm boiler ash and to determine the optimal composition of this mixture for the growth of mahogany seedlings. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed, consisting of five treatments with four replications, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The planting media compositions tested were: P0 = 100% peat soil (control), P1 = 10% boiler ash + 90% peat soil, P2 = 15% boiler ash + 85% peat soil, P3 = 20% oil palm boiler ash + 80% peat soil, and P4 = 25% oil palm boiler ash + 75% peat soil. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0. The application of oil palm boiler ash had a significant effect on the growth of mahogany seedlings. The optimal composition was 15% boiler ash and 85% peat, which resulted in an average seedling height increase of 10.01 cm and an average dry weight of 6.61 g.

Abstract

Processing household organic waste of plant parts into organic fertilizer can reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas. The organic fertilizer produced supported sustainable agriculture. This study aims to determine the effect of applying organic compost fertilizer on the growth of Pometia pinnata seedlings propagated from seed germination in the nursery. The research design employed an experimental approach, specifically a completely randomized design. ANOVA and Tukey HSD were used to determine the effect of compost fertilizer doses on the growth of Pometia pinnata seedlings. The analysis shows that the morphological parameters of seedlings with compost fertilizer application were better than those of the control. The best dose that consistently provided better morphology parameters of seedlings was 75 g/polybag in a 10x20 cm size. Applying organic fertilizer supports the physiology of seedlings and provides proportional seed growth. Thus, the seedlings' sturdiness quotients are more potent than those of the control groups. Organic fertilizer production from household organic plant waste and planting Pometia pinnata for greening have the potential to mitigate climate change and enhance food security at the research location.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the level of erosion in various planting patterns of agroforestry systems implemented by the community in Lupia Village, Kabangka District, Muna Regency. The background of this research is based on the issue of land degradation due to population pressure on forest areas, which prompts the need for alternative approaches such as agroforestry. The research was conducted from June to July 2012 using field study and laboratory analysis methods. The collected data includes information on rainfall, slope, soil texture and structure, as well as the types of planting patterns used. The calculation of erosion rates was done using the USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) method. The research results show that the agroforestry planting pattern consisting of a combination of Teak-Banana-Papaya (with an 8% slope) produced the lowest erosion rate of 17.40 tons/ha/year, while the combination of Teak-Long Beans-Cocoa (with a 12% slope) showed the highest erosion rate of 34.31 tons/ha/year. All observed planting patterns resulted in erosion levels exceeding the tolerance threshold, thus not reflecting a sustainable system. Therefore, it is necessary to apply soil conservation techniques to support the sustainability of the agroforestry system in the area.
