Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to identify the speech repair strategies employed by students and lecturers during classroom interaction to enhance English language competence. Methodology: This research applies a descriptive qualitative method, using Conversation Analysis (CA) to examine the verbal interactions between students and lecturers. Data were collected through observations and recordings of classroom activities in Fiction class with 60 total students combined from both classes, focusing on the patterns of turn-taking and speech repair. The analysis employs (Liddicoat, 2007) repair strategy framework to categorize different types of repairs (self-initiated self-repair, self-initiated other-repair, other-initiated self-repair and other-initiated other-repair). Results: The findings revealed that self-initiated self-repair was the most frequently employed strategy, highlighting the importance of learner autonomy and active engagement in the language learning process. The findings highlight a variety of speech repair strategies used by students and lecturers in these interactions, showing how they contribute to improving English language proficiency. Applications/Originality/Value: Specifically, methods like self-initiated and other-initiated corrections raise students' linguistic awareness and facilitate more effective error correction, leading to stronger communication skills and overall language improvement.

All data were collected by using observation and interview methods. The collected data were analyzed descriptively in the form of continuous interaction until the data were complete. Results: The results of this study inform that the learning models that teachers use in the learning process include project-based learning models, flipped learning, and mind mapping, which are able to help teachers facilitate the learning process. The influence in the strategies that teachers do to increase student motivation to actively participate in the learning process includes conditioning the learning atmosphere, making study group discussions, holding competitive competitions, creating interesting learning variations, giving praise, and giving punishment. Applications/Originality/Value: Following up on the findings of this study, active learning strategies in the Merdeka curriculum at junior high schools in Surakarta must be further optimized through the design of lesson plans, learning resources, and learning assessments in each learning model used.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore the implementation of differentiated learning in grade VI Indonesian language subjects by utilizing the Merdeka Mengajar Platform application at Gadungan Elementary School. Methodology: The method used is descriptive qualitative. Data were collected through in-terviews, observations, and document studies related to the implementation of differentiated learning and the use of the Merdeka Mengajar Platform ap-plication. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Assessment techniques for checking data validity are technical triangulation and source triangulation. Results: The results showed that differentiated learning has been implemented at Gadungan Elementary School, especially in Indonesian language subjects in class VI with the support of sources from the Merdeka Mengajar platform. Variations in differentiated learning methods can increase student motiva-tion and creativity. In addition, differentiated learning also has a positive impact on the development of Pancasila Student Profile characters, such as cooperation, creativity, and critical reasoning. The utilization of the Merdeka Mengajar platform is still not optimal, especially when using the assessment and reflection features. However, using the Merdeka Mengajar platform helps teachers find references to learning resources or teaching modules, ex-amples of formative assessments, and relevant learning videos. Applications/Originality/Value: Differentiated learning by utilizing the Merdeka Mengajar Platform has the potential to increase the effectiveness of the implementation of the inde-pendent curriculum.
