Abstract

Delayed sleep phase disorder (DSPD) is a circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorder characterized by a persistent delay of the major sleep period relative to socially desired sleep and wake times. DSM-5 classifies it as delayed sleep phase type (307.45; G47.21), and the International Classification of Sleep Disorders lists it as a distinct entity. DSPD is the most frequent circadian disorder, accounting for about 83% of cases, with a prevalence of 0.17% in the general population, 1% to 16% among adolescents and young adults, and 6.7% to 16% among patients attending sleep clinics for insomnia. Its etiology is multifactorial, comprising a phase delay of circadian markers, a longer intrinsic circadian period, an abnormal phase angle of entrainment, slower accumulation of homeostatic sleep drive, and altered responsiveness to photic zeitgebers, together with genetic vulnerability and behavioral, cognitive, and emotional factors. Patients present with chronic sleep-onset insomnia when sleep is attempted at conventional hours, difficulty awakening, and excessive daytime sleepiness, whereas sleep quality is essentially normal when they follow their own schedule. Diagnosis is clinical and is supported by a prospective sleep diary, actigraphy, and circadian phase markers such as dim light melatonin onset. Management is multimodal, comprising sleep hygiene education, chronotherapy, timed morning bright light with avoidance of evening light, and exogenous melatonin, which advances endogenous melatonin onset and sleep onset and shortens sleep-onset latency. Prognosis depends on adherence and psychiatric comorbidity; early detection and management of comorbidity are essential to prevent academic, occupational, and psychosocial impairment.

Abstract

Introduction: Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is known for its anxiolytic benefits derived from L-theanine, EGCG, and caffeine, which influence neurotransmitters like GABA and dopamine and enhance alpha brain wave activity. Methods: This experimental study employed a post-test only with control group design. The subjects were 27 male Wistar rats induced with anxiety using the Forced Swim Test. Treatment was administered with green tea extract at a dose of 3.6 mg/kgBW. Anxiety levels were measured using the Elevated Plus Maze (EPM) method, focusing on the duration spent in open arms. Statistical analysis was conducted using One-Way ANOVA, followed by post-hoc Tukey tests to identify significant differences between groups. Results: The treatment group showed an average time in open arms of 114.22 seconds, approaching the positive control (fluoxetine ) at 117.67 seconds, and higher than the negative control (Placebo) at 90.33 seconds. Statistical analysis indicated significant differences among treatment groups (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Green tea extract demonstrated significant anxiolytic effects in reducing anxiety in a rat model.

Abstract

Conduct disorder is a common behavioral disorder among school-age children, and parental perception may influence recognition and management of symptoms. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parental perception and conduct disorder symptoms among students at SD Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. A quantitative cross-sectional design involved 104 parents of students in grades I–V, selected through total sampling from 264 parents. Parental perception was assessed using a 10-item questionnaire, while conduct disorder symptoms were measured using the Conduct Problems subscale of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Data were analyzed using the Fisher-Freeman-Halton Exact Test because chi-square assumptions were not met. Results showed that 88.5% of parents had a positive perception of conduct disorder symptoms, while 76.0% of students were classified as normal on the Conduct Problems subscale. Statistical analysis yielded p = 0.328 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between parental perception and conduct disorder symptoms. Abnormal symptoms were more prevalent among children whose parents had negative perceptions (25.0%) than positive perceptions (10.9%). These findings suggest that conduct disorder symptoms may involve factors beyond parental perception and support multi-informant screening involving teachers and children.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood. This disease is caused by several factors, one of which is damage to pancreatic cells. Coriander seeds contain compounds that play a role in the protection and regeneration of pancreatic cells. There are several studies that state that coriander seeds can reduce blood glucose levels, but there is no research that states that coriander seeds can protect pancreatic cells. This study aims to determine the pancreoprotective effect of coriander seed infusion using blood glucose levels as a measurement indicator. This research uses an experimental design with a pretest and posttest design. Using 30 mice divided into 3 groups as research samples. This research was carried out by giving coriander infusion first and then giving alloxan as a trigger to increase the rats' blood glucose levels. The results of data analysis using the One Way Anova test showed a sigma value (p < 0.05) which stated that there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. There is an effect of giving coriander seed infusion (Coriandrum Sativum L) as a pancreoprotective effect on rat blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Hormonal contraception is a primary method used in family planning programs, with the most commonly used methods being injectable contraceptives, pills, and implants. One of the current challenges faced by Indonesia is its relatively high population density and rapid population growth. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the use of progestin-only hormonal contraceptives and changes in the menstrual cycle among women using hormonal contraception. This study employed an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all women using hormonal contraception at the Misbah Midwifery Practice. The sample included all women using hormonal contraception at the same practice. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05 and a 95% confidence level. The statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.008 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between the use of progestin-only hormonal contraceptives and changes in the menstrual cycle. The use of hormonal contraception tended to cause changes in menstrual patterns, with the majority of users experiencing irregular menstrual cycles. The results indicate a significant association between the use of progestin-only hormonal contraceptives and changes in the menstrual cycle, suggesting that the type of contraceptive selected may influence women's menstrual patterns.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that contributes substantially to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Vitamin D may influence placentation, immune regulation, endothelial function, angiogenesis, and the renin–angiotensin system; therefore, low vitamin D status has been associated with preeclampsia risk. This structured literature review covered publications from the last 10 years (2016–11 August 2026), prioritizing randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews/meta-analyses, umbrella reviews, and relevant clinical or public-health guidance. Several recent meta-analyses reported lower preeclampsia incidence with vitamin D supplementation, with effect estimates around RR 0.55–0.62 or OR 0.50–0.58. Nevertheless, the evidence is not fully consistent. The 2024 Cochrane update judged the evidence for vitamin D alone on preeclampsia to be very uncertain after studies with trustworthiness concerns were excluded. Heterogeneity in baseline 25-hydroxyvitamin D status, dose, timing, comparators, maternal risk profiles, and study quality remains substantial. Vitamin D has biological plausibility and a possible adjunctive preventive role, particularly among women with deficiency, but current evidence is insufficient to support universal vitamin D supplementation specifically for preeclampsia prevention. Well-powered multicenter trials with standardized baseline assessment, dosing regimens, safety monitoring, and adjudicated preeclampsia phenotypes are required.

Abstract

Background: Hallucinations are a dominant symptom of schizophrenia that requires pharmacological treatment as the primary intervention. Complementary non-pharmacological therapies are also needed to improve patients’ ability to distinguish and control reality-based experiences. Drawing therapy, an art-based intervention, may help divert attention from internal stimuli associated with hallucinations. However, evidence regarding its effectiveness has not been systematically synthesized. Objective: To identify the effectiveness of drawing therapy in reducing hallucinatory symptoms among inpatients with schizophrenia. Methods: A narrative review was conducted by searching Google Scholar, Garuda Portal, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) for articles published between 2022 and 2026. Nine articles met the inclusion criteria. Results: The reviewed literature indicates that drawing therapy can reduce the signs, symptoms, and severity of hallucinations and improve patients’ ability to control them. Its effectiveness may be mediated through distraction from internal stimuli, emotional expression, and stimulation of cognitive and psychomotor functions. Conclusion: Drawing therapy is an effective complementary non-pharmacological intervention in psychiatric nursing for helping control hallucinatory symptoms among patients with schizophrenia in inpatient wards and supporting optimal symptom management.

Abstract

Decreased levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are closely related to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. This causes a decrease in cognitive function, memory and behavior due to a decrease in the BDNF protein which has the main function of protecting nerve growth, plasticity, nerve resilience, as well as being an important shield against nerve degeneration. Objective: of this research is to analyze the interaction between the oleic acid and alpha tocopherol ligands with the BDNF protein by molecular docking, as well as to analyze the ADMETox compounds of oleic acid and alpha tocopherol. Methods: This research is descriptive analytical. Molecular docking uses the Autodock tools, LigandScout, Discovery Studio, and Marvin Sketch applications. ADMETox analysis uses the SwissADME, ADMETlab 2.0, and ProTox-II sites. Results: the binding energy of oleic acid compounds to BDNF, TrkB, and CREB is -3.13 kcal/mol, -6.13 kcal/mol, and -3.70 kcal/mol. The binding energy results for alpha tocopherol compounds on BDNF, TrkB, and CREB are -5.67 kcal/mol, -8.04 kcal/mol, and -7.04 kcal/mol. ADMETox found that alpha tocopherol and oleic acid compounds fulfill Lipinski's rule of five and do not inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes. Conclusion: Oleic acid and alpha tocopherol bind to BDNF, TrkB and CREB proteins and are safe for oral consumption.

Abstract

Acetylcholine is an essential neurotransmitter in modulating the function of the human central nervous system. The pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by an acetylcholine deficit resulting from the accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques and tau protein neurofibrillary tangles, which directly trigger cognitive decline in patients. To determine the binding energy and inhibition constants for the interactions between acetylcholine and acetylcholinesterase proteins with alpha-tocopherol and oleic acid. In silico analysis using molecular docking methods with Autodock Tools and Marvin Sketch software. The results of the docking analysis were then visualized using Discovery Studio and LigandScout software. The binding energies and inhibition constants of acetylcholine with oleic acid and alpha-tocopherol were -4.96 kcal/mol and 229.99 μM, and -6.35 kcal/mol and 22.13 μM, respectively. The binding energies and inhibition constants of acetylcholinesterase for oleic acid and alpha-tocopherol were -5.11 kcal/mol and 179.45 μM, and -8.35 kcal/mol and 0.75845 μM, respectively. Oleic acid and alpha-tocopherol can interact with acetylcholine and acetylcholinesterase through the formation of hydrogen bonds.
