Abstract

Mastery of writing skills is very important. However, many students experience difficulties and challenges in improving their writing skills. This study was used to determine the effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the writing skills of class XI students of SMK Swasta GKPI 1 Pematangsiantar using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. This study took samples using a purposive sampling technique involving 60 students who were divided into 2 groups, namely the experimental group (XI TKJ A) which consisted of 30 students, and the control group (X TKJ B) which also consisted of 30 students. In this study, the experimental class received treatment using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and the control class with conventional methods. In this study, data were collected with pre-test and post-test and analyzed using an independent sample t-test where in the experimental class the mean pre-test value was 40,67 and post-test was 75, while the mean value in the control class on the pre-test was 35,33 and post-test was 50. After being tested using the t-test, a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05 was obtained, so the Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. This means that there was a significant increase in students in the experimental class who were given treatment. So, this shows a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can significantly improve students' writing skills, especially in writing analytical texts with correct organization.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan hasil belajar siswa kelas V SD Negeri 122332 Pematangsiantar melalui model pembelajaran STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) berbasis Artificial Intelligence (AI). Rendahnya daya analisis siswa dan dominasi metode konvensional menjadi latar belakang penelitian ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis & McTaggart yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Subjek penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas V. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes keterampilan berpikir kritis, tes hasil belajar, dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan: pada Siklus I, ketuntasan klasikal mencapai 65%, dan meningkat menjadi 88% pada Siklus II. Keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa juga mengalami kenaikan dari kategori "Cukup" menjadi "Sangat Baik". Disimpulkan bahwa integrasi AI dalam kerangka STEAM efektif dalam memicu daya nalar kritis dan meningkatkan pencapaian akademik siswa sekolah dasar di era digital 2025.

Abstract

The rapid growth of TikTok as a popular social media platform has significantly influenced written language practices, particularly in caption writing, which tends to be informal and spontaneous. This study aims to identify, classify, and analyze language errors found in TikTok captions created by Indonesian content creators. Employing a descriptive qualitative research design, the data were collected through documentation of publicly accessible TikTok captions and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The findings reveal that language errors predominantly occur in the forms of redundancy, grammatical errors, spelling errors, and semantic inconsistency. These errors are not categorized as intentional code-switching or stylistic language mixing but rather as violations of standard linguistic norms. Theoretically, this study confirms that the informal nature of social media influences written language use and encourages non-standard forms in digital communication contexts.

Abstract

Writing is a crucial yet challenging skill for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Many Indonesian students experience difficulties in organizing ideas, applying correct tenses, and producing coherent paragraphs, particularly in writing recount texts. This study aimed to examine the effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) on ninth-grade students’ ability to write recount texts at SMP Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar. The research used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model involving 31 students. A writing test was administered as the instrument, assessing five aspects: content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by comparing mean scores from the pre-test and post-test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ writing performance, with the mean score increasing from 63.0 to 79.0, representing a 16-point (25.4%) gain. Notable improvement occurred in content and organization, indicating clearer idea development and better text structure. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning effectively enhances students’ engagement, creativity, and writing competence in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This paper investigates communicative purposes of the use of abbreviations in Discord chats based on the Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis (CMDA) framework. Over three months, 500 chat messages in five Discord servers of gaming, educational and hobby communities were gathered. The study found four types of abbreviations, including initialisms (42%), phonological reductions (28%), Gen Z slang (22%), and alphanumeric replacements (8%). Results show that abbreviations have four main communicative purposes, namely, structural efficiency, tone modulation pragmatically, interactional continuity, and social identity construction. Abbreviations are multi-purpose resources that can only have sense in a context of negotiation, and at the same time they carry semantic, pragmatic, and social indexicalities. Such immense popularity of Gen Z forms like fr, ngl and no cap suggests that abbreviations have become sociolinguistic signifiers of belonging to a culture and generational identity. This paper has made a contribution to digital linguistics by enlightening on the influence of abbreviations in establishment of connotation and social bond within virtual communities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Perilaku Phubbing Terhadap Interaksi Sosial Pada Remaja Akhir Di Kota Medan. Dari hasil penelitian dan analisa data yang dilakukan pada remaja akhir, maka dapat ditarik kesimpulan sebagai berikut:Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan analisis data terdapat hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara Perilaku phubbing terhadap Interaksi sosial pada remaja akhir di kota Medan. Berdasarkan hasil uji Pearson Product Moment antara variabel yang satu dengan variabel kedua diperoleh sebesar r = 0,992. Uji linearitas menunjukkan nilai signifikansi 0,649 (< 0,05), sehingga model regresi signifikan secara statistik. Berarti hipotesis penelitian Ha diterima.Berdasarkan hasil kategorisasi subjek penelitian, dapat diketahui bahwa sebagian besar remaja akhir di kota Medan berada dalam kategori sedang yaitu interaksi sosial sebanyak 114 orang (56,7%) dan perilaku phubbing sebanyak 108 orang (53,7%).Pada variabel interaksi sosial paling banyak pada kategori sedang dan kategori yang paling tinggi pada aspek komunikasi yaitu sebanyak 201 orang (100%), kategori sedang yaitu pada aspek kontak sosial sebanyak 144 orang (71,6%) dan kategori rendah itu pada aspek relasi yaitu sebanyak 25 orang (12,4%).Pada variabel perilaku phubbing paling banyak pada kategori sedang dan kategori yang paling tinggi pada aspek gangguan komunikasi yaitu sebanyak 41 orang (20,4%) kategori sedang yaitu pada aspek obsesi ponsel sebanyak 143 orang (71,1%) dan kategori rendah itu pada aspek obsesi ponsel yaitu sebanyak 29 orang (14,4%)
