The pre-test mean score for the experimental class was 64.75, whereas the mean score for the control class was 64.50. Conversely, the experimental class’s post-test mean score was 78.92, whereas the control class’s post-test mean score was 69.57. The data was then examined by the researchers using a t-test. The T-test showed a greater degree of significance (2,7 > 1.674) compared to the T-table. Abstract

This research aims to determine whether the use of picture books has a big impact on students' ability to read narrative texts. At SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar, researchers conducted this research using quantitative methods and a quasi-experimental design approach. The population of this study was 201 class IX students. The instruments used to collect data are based on students’ pre-and post-test results. Based on research findings, the average score of the experimental class on the pre-test and post-test was 54 and 75, respectively. The average score of the control group was 58.65 on the pre-test and 65.57 on the post-test as well. The t-test results show (3.7 > 1.677) that the t-test value is greater than the t-table value. H0, the null hypothesis, is refuted. Keeping this in mind, it can be said that picture books play a major role in helping students improve their reading skills, especially in narrative texts.

Abstract

Teacher identity is discursively represented in the discursive spaces of the news media, which influence the public opinion on teachers and the teaching profession in general. Informed by Systemic Functional Linguistics, specifically Halliday's transitivity analysis, this study analyzed these discursive representations in 30 news media articles from three of the largest news media outlets in the Philippines. It was found that teachers are ascribed to material, mental, verbal, relational, and behavioral processes. As participants in the process types, it was revealed that the teachers were discursively represented as perpetrators, victims, and role models. This reveals the discursive representations of teacher identity in media that are perpetuated in the public discourse consumed by educational stakeholders.

Abstract

The study on Pop Culture and English Language Motivation was a descriptive correlational study conducted among the ninety-five (95) AB-English students at the University of Mindanao-Matina Campus, Davao City. This study aims to discover the prevalent relationship between the use of pop culture and English language learning motivation. Adopted questionnaires were utilized as a research instrument to gather the data, which were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's r correlation. The study also used total population sampling to select the number of respondents. Based on the findings, there is a high level of pop culture use, particularly on other media platforms, such as English cinema, music, and mobile phones. Moreover, AB-English students have a very high integrative and instrumental motivation to learn the language. Finally, the overall correlation for both variables suggest a moderate positive correlation with a threshold of 0.567, implying that learners with a high-level use of pop culture media are more likely to be integratively and instrumentally motivated to learn English, especially when using other media platforms, such as English cinema, music, and mobile phones.

The researchers used Colaizzi’s Method of Data Analysis as a data analysis tool. The results revealed that the experiences of failed LET examinees are associated with themes such as Time Management, Unpreparedness, Learning Environment, and The Effect of the Support System. Moreover, the study revealed the coping mechanism of failed LET examinees with the themes: Negative Reinforcement, Diverting attention to other things, and Good Support. Furthermore, the failed LET examinee’s insights showed the themes: Setting goals, Health and Expectations, and Integration of Optimism and Pessimism. The result showed that mean of post-test is higher than pre-test and two tail significance is .000 which is lower than α = .05 (p = .000 < α = .05). As a result, the hypothesis is accepted. It is revealed that the modified ILT with flash card is one of the factors which influences the students’ writing ability. Therefore, the result of this research showed that by using modified ILT with flash card, it was more significant differences in teaching writing ability. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between social intelligence and media literacy of senior high school students. A correlational design was used in this study. It was participated by 300 senior high school students. A survey questionnaire on social intelligence and media literacy were used as instruments. Mean and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. This study revealed that social intelligence of students is high which means that students can read other people and understand their intentions and motivations. Likewise, media literacy of senior high school students is high which implies students are good in perceiving the use of media and are aware of its negative and positive use. Furthermore, there is a moderate positive correlation between social intelligence and media literacy. This may further imply that a higher social intelligence can improve media literacy. Thus, the conduct of social intelligence enhancement program is recommended to improve the media literacy of the students.
