Abstract

Language is an indispensable communication tool. Language also a means of self-expression, a means of social adaptation in certain environments and situations. Even so, the language is very indistinct, unclear and confusing. This study will compare the consonant between English and Batak Toba language in the conversation about “Education”. This research focused to compare ten consonant in English and Batak Toba Language in conversation. A descrptive qualitative research is used in this research. The technique of analyzing data is by compare ten consonants between English and Batak Toba language in conversation “Education”. The conversation consisting of ten consonants shows the differences between English and Batak Toba Language.

Abstract

Batak Toba adalah salah satu budaya etnis patriarki di Indonesia, dengan standar gender yang ketat diterapkan di kalangan masyarakatnya. Nenek moyang orang Indonesia Batak Toba-Amerika yang hidup di bawah norma gender Batak dan Egalitarian mungkin mempunyai sudut pandang berbeda mengenai standar gender etnis mereka akibat integrasi di Amerika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh asimilasi terhadap persepsi nenek moyang campuran Batak Toba-Amerika terhadap norma gender etnis Batak Toba. Penelitian ini merupakan salah satu contoh etnografi digital. Untuk memecahkan masalah penelitian, penelitian ini menggunakan asimilasi tersegmentasi Portes dan Zhou. Akibatnya, asimilasi mempengaruhi perspektif campuran nenek moyang orang Batak Toba-Amerika terhadap norma gender Batak, menyebabkan mereka lebih menyesuaikan diri dengan norma gender Egalitarian Amerika dan struktur keluarga Egalitarian Amerika sebagai akibat dari sumber daya manusia.

Abstract

Salah satu kemampuan linguistik yang mendasar adalah kemampuan membaca. Siswa akan dapat menggunakan kemampuan lain, seperti berbicara, sebagai hasil dari membaca mereka. Ini juga akan sulit bagi anak-anak yang tidak dapat membaca untuk mencapai potensi menulis mereka. Pada tahap membaca pendahuluan, penelitian waktu, meliputi kemampuan membaca anak kelas VII. Analisis kemampuan membaca siswa kelas VII SMP adalah topik dari artikel ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah keterampilan membaca siswa kelas delapan tinggi, sedang, atau buruk. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik penelitian kualitatif dan penelitian deskriptif, serta metodologi studi kasus. Sebuah strategi sampel purposive digunakan untuk memilih responden untuk penyelidikan ini.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah pengaruh strategi membaca bersama terhadap kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 1 Siantar pada teks narasi. Permasalahan penelitian ini adalah apa pengaruh Strategi Membaca Bersama terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks narasi di kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 1 Siantar. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dan jenis penelitiannya adalah metode eksperimen semu. Data dari penelitian ini dikumpulkan dan diperoleh melalui tes. Sampel penelitian ini adalah X-1 sebagai kelompok Eksperimen dan X-4 sebagai kelompok Kontrol. Tes dilakukan dengan Pre-Test dan Post-Test kepada siswa dengan menggunakan Narrative Text. Data penelitian dan temuan hasil perhitungan, peneliti menemukan nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen dari pre-test hingga post-test adalah 55,83 dan 76,33. Nilai rata-rata kelas kontrol dari pre-test hingga post-test adalah 59,33 dan 69. Temuan pengujian hipotesis data statistik uji-t sampel menunjukkan, pada tingkat signifikansi 5% (=0,05), bahwa uji-t adalah 2,2 sedangkan t-tabel sebesar 1,672 atau t-hitung > t-tabel. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa nilai t-hitung lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai t-tabel. Oleh karena itu, Hipotesis Alternatif (H1) diterima dan Hipotesis Null (H0) ditolak. Jadi, itu berarti terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari pengaruh penggunaan strategi membaca bersama terhadap kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 1 Siantar pada teks narasi.

Abstract

This research aims to improve listening ability students of English subjects using the dictation method and find the effectiveness of the dictation method in an effort to improve ability listening to students on descriptive text of class X IA 1 students of SMK HKBP PEMATANGSIANTAR. This research is a classroom action research conducted in the first semester of the year 2021/2022 teaching. The subjects of this research were students of class X IA 1 SMK HKBP PEMATANGSIANTAR. The object of this research is the improvement of listening ability English lessons on descriptive text with the dictation method. Classroom action research it covers 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely: (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The findings from classroom action research are (1) Students' listening ability increase with the use of the dictation method, (2) The average score of students in the pre-cycle action is 56.84% including the "less" category, the average student score in cycle 1 is 70.47% including the "enough" category, the average student score in cycle 2 is 78.43% including the "good" category. (3) Attainment of listening competence skill is measured by the dictation method which shows an increase in the results of research from pre-cycle to cycle II.

Abstract

This research focuses on the contrastive analysis of adjective clauses found in the Spiderman Homecoming movie. The research design used is a qualitative design. The researcher conducted this research descriptively, which explained the research by making a table and a few sentences to explain it. The data is taken from the Spiderman Homecoming movie. Researchers search and find data from various websites to obtain data by reading and searching for materials in journals, e-books, and related articles. The researcher discusses everything related to the adjective clause, which is the main purpose of this research. The sentences or scripts are taken and analyzed through an adjective clause. The results of the researcher's analysis found 2 types of adjective clauses, namely, adjective clause defining and adjective clause modifying. In the Spiderman: Homecoming film script, there are 25 adjective clause defining sentences and 14 adjective modifying sentences.

Abstract

This research aims to discover the similarity and differences of Noun Phrase (NP) used in English and Indonesian sentences. This scientific writing used an instrument of report text as the reference to collect data. The report text was taken from a textbook of Developing English Competencies for senior high school. This research demonstrated that when English Noun Phrase was translated to Indonesian, there were changes in syntatic pattern, syntatic category, and meaning. Based on the research results, researchers found several similarities between Indonesian and English Noun Phrases. Similar parts, including head, determiner,and modifier, formed the Noun Phrase. However, there were also differences between them. English Noun Phrase was frequently expanded to the side of the head; meanwhile, in Indonesian, it was expanded to the back of the head. English Noun Phrase consists of a central-determiner (the, a, an); meanwhile, Indonesian Noun Phrase lacks it.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effect of the U-Dictionary Application for the students’ pronunciation on grade eight in teaching speaking at SMP Swasta Taman Asuhan Pematang Siantar. The method used quantitative with quasi-experimental research method with pre-test and post-test design. Two classes provided the data: the experimental class and the control class. In this research, VIII-A was the experimental class, while VIII-B was the control class. There were 28 students in each class, for a total sample size of 56. The pre-test mean score for the experimental class was 64.75, whereas the mean score for the control class was 64.50. Conversely, the experimental class’s post-test mean score was 78.92, whereas the control class’s post-test mean score was 69.57. The data was then examined by the researchers using a t-test. The T-test showed a greater degree of significance (2,7 > 1.674) compared to the T-table. Results showed that using the U-Dictionary Application for students’ pronunciation on grade eight teaching speaking at SMP Swasta Taman Asuhan Pematang Siantar had a substantial impact. Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the various techniques employed by English teachers in teaching reading comprehension of narrative texts to eighth-grade students at UPTD SMP N5 Pematang Siantar. The participants in this research were eighth-grade English teachers at UPTD SMP N5 Pematang Siantar. The data were collected from various sources, including classroom observations, interviews, and analysis of teaching materials such as syllabi, textbooks, and lesson plans. The researcher employed a descriptive qualitative research approach. The data was meticulously analyzed, focusing on the teacher’s technique. The findings of this research revealed that teachers frequently used the technique of translating literature passages and employing question-and-answer exercises. This technique enables students to comprehend the content of the reading material, acquire information from the text, and enhance their critical thinking skills through direct engagement with the questions and answers.

Abstract

Grammar is a language to talk about language. Just as one cannot explain how a motor engine functions (or is falling to function) without naming words for its parts and their specific actions, so it is impossible to explore the function of words and the part they play in forming meaningful language without a naming procedure. The purpose of this research is to know the students’ difficulties in using Parts of Speech of a text. This research is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. This research was conducted on the first semester student namely 95 students in 2 classess at HKBP Nommensen University Pematangsiantar. The instruments used written test. The results showed the highest one is very good category with 68 students with 71,5% and the fair category with 2 students on the 2,1%. It found no Interjection included. The text used the determiner/ article out of the box of Parts of Speech with 13 words. The dominantly applied by the students in finding the difficulties is stated to the Pronoun, Adjective, and Adverb. The last stated the word of article or determiner into the Adjective.
