Abstract

This paper explores the educational thought of Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (HAMKA), a prominent scholar, intellectual, and literary figure who played a significant role in the reform of Islamic education in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to present a brief biography of HAMKA, highlight the distinctive features of his educational philosophy, examine his contributions to the field of education, assess the relevance of his ideas in the current educational context, and identify his major written works. The research employs a library research method, collecting data from various sources such as books, journals, scholarly articles, and relevant documents. The findings reveal that HAMKA introduced substantial reforms in Islamic education, including its objectives, content, and methods. His educational philosophy is characterized by the integration of religious and secular sciences, an emphasis on character education, and the promotion of intellectual freedom to encourage critical thinking among students. His contributions include the establishment of early models of Al-Azhar schools, the Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr. HAMKA (UHAMKA), and the Tablig School. HAMKA’s emphasis on character development and Islamic values remains highly relevant to the challenges of modern education. He authored over 80 works, with his most renowned contribution being the 30-volume Tafsir Al-Azhar. This study underscores the importance of actualizing HAMKA’s educational thought in the development of a contextual and sustainable Islamic education system.

Abstract

The branch of philosophy known as the philosophy of science explores the nature of knowledge in depth, including its structure, methods, and validity. The philosophy of science plays a central role in shaping critical and scientific thinking, particularly in the context of education and scholarly development. This study aims to examine how the philosophy of science can serve as a foundation for cultivating critical and scientific thinking, as well as its impact on the learning process and knowledge development. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with literature review as the primary data collection method. The findings reveal that the philosophy of science helps individuals understand the limits of knowledge, distinguish between what is known and unknown, and foster a healthy skepticism toward scientific claims. Moreover, it encourages the development of systematic and logical arguments. Scientific thinking requires a systematic, objective, and testable process, while critical thinking involves evaluating assumptions, logic, and supporting evidence. Therefore, a deep understanding of the philosophy of science is essential for enhancing intellectual capacity, fostering epistemic responsibility, and producing valid and scientifically accountable knowledge.

Abstract

Amaliyah tasawuf constitutes an integral part of the Islamic spiritual tradition, playing a significant role in shaping the character and personality of santri (Islamic boarding school students). KH. Muslih Abdurrahman Mranggen, a prominent tarekat scholar and founder of Pesantren Futuhiyyah, developed a tasawuf-based education system through practices such as zikir, riyāḍah, wirid, and khalwat, which serve as instruments for spiritual development. This study aims to examine the forms of amaliyah tasawuf taught by KH. Muslih and explore their relevance to character education in the modern era. A qualitative approach was employed, using library research and interviews as the primary data collection methods. The findings reveal that KH. Muslih’s tasawuf practices contribute significantly to strengthening spiritual dimensions and fostering the character of santri, emphasizing values such as patience, sincerity, humility (tawāḍuʿ), and social responsibility. These tasawuf practices extend beyond personal piety, encouraging the internalization of moral values in the social lives of students. The study concludes that revitalizing the tasawuf-based values of KH. Muslih is highly relevant in addressing the moral degradation challenges faced by today’s youth and can serve as a foundational model for designing character education systems rooted in Islamic spirituality.

Abstract

Gedi leaves (Abelmoschus manihot L.) are known for their potential as a natural ingredient in the development of traditional medicines; however, information regarding their secondary metabolite content remains limited. This study aims to identify the secondary metabolites present in the ethanol extract of gedi leaves through phytochemical screening. The extraction was conducted using the maceration method with 96% ethanol on dried powdered gedi leaves. The resulting extract was qualitatively analyzed using specific reagents to detect compound groups such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, and terpenoids. Compound detection was based on color changes as indicators of positive reactions. The screening results revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and steroids, while saponins and terpenoids were not detected. These findings indicate that gedi leaves contain bioactive compounds that hold relevance for further development in pharmaceutical research. This study provides an initial contribution to the exploration of the pharmacological potential of A. manihot and supports future studies aimed at isolating and characterizing its active compounds in greater detail.

Abstract

The Manjalang Niniak Mamak tradition is a vital part of Minangkabau culture, rich in kinship values and reverence for elders. One of the prominent cultural elements in this ceremony is Silek Tarlak, a traditional martial art that carries not only aesthetic value but also deep social and cultural significance. This study aims to describe and analyze the role of Silek Tarlak in the Manjalang Niniak Mamak ceremony in Nagari Sialang Gaung, Koto Baru District, Dharmasraya Regency. A descriptive qualitative method was used, focusing on the performance of Silek Tarlak within the traditional event. Data were collected through observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation, and analyzed through stages of data collection, description, identification, and conclusion drawing. The results show that Silek Tarlak holds both symbolic and social roles in the ceremony. It serves to strengthen kinship ties between nephews and maternal uncles (niniak mamak), convey apologies, and honor traditional elders. Additionally, it acts as a symbolic form of protection for the extended family and the community, while also serving as entertainment that enlivens the ceremonial atmosphere. Silek Tarlak embodies moral, aesthetic, educational, and customary values, and fulfills functions such as emotional expression, entertainment, aesthetic enjoyment, social norms, communication, and cultural transmission. Movements such as Gerak Sambah, Gerak Gayuang, Gerak Popek/Tebasan, and Gerak Tumbuak reflect the deep philosophical and cultural meanings embedded in Minangkabau tradition.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Dance Art subject in class X E2 at SMA Pembangunan Laboratorium UNP. One contributing factor is the lack of active student participation during the learning process. The objective of this study is to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of the cooperative learning model Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD). The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, involving 33 students. Data collection techniques included written tests, performance tests, observation, and documentation. Results from Cycle I indicated low student engagement, with only 42% paying attention and 31% actively responding to questions. However, Cycle II showed a significant improvement, with all students (100%) attentive during lessons and 85% actively participating. Learning outcomes also increased from 18% in Cycle I to 87% in Cycle II, categorized as very good. These findings indicate that the STAD model is effective in enhancing both student learning outcomes and engagement in Dance Art instruction. The implication is that the STAD cooperative approach is a viable strategy for promoting active learning in the arts.

Abstract

Development is an ongoing historical process that reflects the dynamics of human civilization, one manifestation of which is housing development—a sector with significant impacts, particularly in peri-urban buffer zones that emerge in response to urbanization and land scarcity in city centers. Kekeri Village, located in Gunung Sari District, West Lombok Regency, exemplifies such an area experiencing rapid residential growth due to its strategic location and proximity to Mataram City. This study aims to analyze the impact of housing development on the socio-economic transformation of the local community, focusing on three key indicators: income levels, types of employment, and the availability of public facilities before and after development. A quantitative descriptive method with a case study approach was employed. The results reveal significant changes in the employment structure, increased economic opportunities, and improved public infrastructure supporting daily activities. These findings indicate that housing development in semi-urban areas has a positive impact on the socio-economic dynamics of local communities. Therefore, inclusive and sustainable development planning is essential to ensure that the benefits of development are distributed equitably.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze various aspects of child education while exploring the concept of child education from the perspectives of psychology and Islamic education. Employing a library research approach, the study focuses on a comprehensive review of relevant literature. The findings indicate that psychology plays a crucial role in early childhood development, particularly for educators, including Islamic Religious Education teachers. In today’s era of information openness, children who are not equipped with strong aqidah and faith are vulnerable to the negative influences of social media and unregulated social interactions. Therefore, educational methods must align with the child’s natural disposition (fitrah) and psychological condition to foster morally upright individuals. In this context, parents play a vital role in implementing religious education that corresponds to the psychological development of the child. The contribution of Islamic educational psychology to child education includes: (a) fostering responsibility and self-confidence; (b) building positive relationships between educators (parents) and children; (c) internally motivating the child; (d) equipping educators with appropriate teaching methods; and (e) clarifying roles and responsibilities between children and parents. These findings underscore the importance of an integrated approach that combines psychological insights with Islamic values for holistic child education.

Abstract

Student administrative record-keeping, particularly regarding permission letters for class entry, early dismissal, and disciplinary violations is a critical component in maintaining an orderly and structured school environment. At SMAN 1 Pariaman, these records are still managed manually using logbooks, which pose significant risks of data loss or damage. This study aims to design and develop a web-based information system named SISPEL (Sistem Informasi Pencatatan Surat Izin dan Pelanggaran Siswa) to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and convenience of data management and monitoring. The system was developed using the waterfall model, encompassing stages of requirements analysis through observation, system design using UML, implementation with the Laravel framework for the backend and Bootstrap 5 for a responsive user interface, and data storage via MySQL. System testing was conducted using the Black Box Testing method, which confirmed that all functionalities from data management by administrators, data entry by operators, verification by vice principals, to monitoring by homeroom teachers functioned as intended and met the specified requirements. The system features a user-friendly interface and is accessible via both desktop and mobile devices. The findings indicate that SISPEL effectively addresses the inefficiencies of manual record-keeping, facilitates monitoring processes, minimizes data loss risks, and supports digital transformation in school administrative management.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension skills among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 05 Sarilamak, characterized by teacher-centered learning and students’ difficulties in understanding texts, identifying main ideas, and analyzing key details. The aim of this research is to describe the improvement of reading comprehension skills through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model, specifically the Think-Talk-Write (TTW) type. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research involved 23 students and applied a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results demonstrated significant improvements from Cycle I to Cycle II: instructional material assessment increased from 85.71% to 96.42%, teacher-related aspects from 77.77% to 94.44%, and student-related aspects from 75% to 91.66%. Reading comprehension skills improved from 73.18% to 87.70%. These findings indicate that the TTW model effectively enhances students’ reading comprehension abilities. Therefore, this model is recommended as an effective alternative learning strategy to improve reading comprehension skills in elementary education.
