Abstract

Teacher-centered instruction in many Akidah Akhlak classes has resulted in low student participation and learning outcomes below KKM 76, underscoring the need for more active approaches. This study evaluates the effect of the pair checks model on Akidah Akhlak learning outcomes at MTsN 6 Agam. Using a quantitative experimental design, the sample comprised class VIII.5 (n = 32) as the experimental group implementing pair checks and class VIII.4 (n = 32) as the control group employing a conventional model; assumption tests included normality and homogeneity using the Lilliefors procedure, followed by hypothesis testing via N-Gain computation and an independent t-test. The main findings show a significant effect of pair checks on learning outcomes, with a meaningful difference between the experimental and control classes (p-value [sig] = 0.000 < 0.05) and superior achievement in the class using pair checks. It is concluded that implementing pair checks effectively improves Akidah Akhlak learning outcomes and promotes more active learning; the findings contribute by reinforcing student-centered instructional practice in Akidah Akhlak and guiding teachers toward the adoption of cooperative learning strategies.

Abstract

A safe, comfortable, and child-friendly school environment is mandated by national regulation, particularly UU Perlindungan Anak and Permendikbud No. 82 of 2015, yet practice on the ground continues to show vulnerability to sexual violence. This study aims to identify forms of sexual violence occurring in schools, analyze influencing factors, and examine prevention efforts already implemented. Using a qualitative case-study approach at the secondary-school level, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The main findings indicate that in a public elementary school in Serang City, sexual violence manifests in verbal forms (taunts, sexualized language) and nonverbal forms (minor physical touching), whereas in a private elementary school verbal forms such as sexual jokes or body-related comments are more dominant; in terms of prevention, the public school conducts more frequent awareness-raising activities, while the private school emphasizes intensive supervision and parent communication; public-school policies typically reference national regulations without detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), in contrast to the private school’s more flexible internal policies that sometimes involve psychologists. External constraints, including limited parental sexual literacy, taboo norms, and weak digital supervision and internal constraints, such as children’s low knowledge and insufficient teacher training significantly hinder prevention. The study concludes that although reported cases tend to be relatively minor, schools must strengthen internal policies, build teacher capacity, and develop comprehensive child-protection systems to prevent sexual violence from an early age; the contribution lies in informing policy-oriented interventions, advancing family–school sexual literacy, and improving reporting mechanisms as strategic priorities.

Abstract

The limited number of studies examining the role of Guidance and Counseling (GC) teachers in identifying and addressing student issues at the junior high school level forms the background of this research, considering that early adolescence is a critical phase prone to identity crises, academic decline, and social conflict. This study aims to analyze the roles, strategic approaches, and challenges faced by GC teachers in addressing student problems at SMPN 3 Waru. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Participants included GC teachers, homeroom teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings reveal that GC teachers play a central role in identifying student issues through observation, coordination with teachers and parents, and personal interviews. Individual and group counseling were the main strategies employed, supported by home visits in specific cases. The primary challenges included limited counseling staff, constrained service time, and delays in information from both the school and family environments. These findings affirm the relevance of Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory in explaining identity crises among adolescents and highlight the effectiveness of Carl Rogers’ client-centered approach in fostering empathetic and meaningful counseling relationships. The study concludes that strengthening school-based GC services should be grounded in humanistic and collaborative approaches. The implications include the need for systemic policy support for the role of GC teachers and the potential for future research employing comparative or longitudinal designs.

Abstract

Self-efficacy is a crucial psychological factor that influences student motivation, learning autonomy, and academic achievement. However, studies on the dynamics of self-efficacy within the context of Islamic religious education, particularly in non-religious higher education institutions remain limited. This study aims to analyze the self-efficacy levels of students in the Department of Islamic Religious Studies at Universitas Negeri Padang, class of 2023, and to identify the factors influencing it. A descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was employed. The participants consisted of 20 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using Creswell’s phenomenological analysis model. The findings reveal that students’ self-efficacy falls into two main categories: high and low. Students with high self-efficacy demonstrate effective time management, resilience in facing academic and social challenges, and the ability to utilize social support to boost self-confidence. Conversely, students with low self-efficacy tend to procrastinate, experience anxiety during presentations, and show limited participation in academic and social activities. The study identifies five dominant factors influencing self-efficacy: social support, academic experience, learning strategies, psychological condition, and educational background. The study concludes that student self-efficacy is influenced not only by cognitive aspects but also by social, emotional, and religious factors. The implications highlight the importance of strengthening student self-efficacy holistically through lecturer engagement, academic mentoring programs, and campus-based religious activities.

Abstract

The limited comprehensive studies on the integration of the Kurikulum Profil Pelajar Pancasila (KPPP) with local values at the junior high school level—particularly in high-performing schools with strong religious characteristics—forms the background of this research. This phenomenon warrants critical examination due to its significant implications for shaping holistic student character rooted in national culture and adaptable to global challenges. This study aims to analyze the strategies for implementing KPPP, identify forms of local value integration, and explore the perceptions and lived experiences of stakeholders at SMP Darul ‘Ulum 1 Unggulan Jombang. A qualitative method with an interpretive phenomenological approach was employed to uncover the subjective meanings and real experiences of teachers, students, and school management. The findings indicate that KPPP implementation is carried out through problem-based projects and extracurricular activities, while local values are explicitly integrated into local content subjects and implicitly reinforced through a school culture emphasizing religiosity and nationalism. These findings align with Vygotsky’s social constructivist theory, which underscores the role of social and cultural interaction in value formation, and support the contextual education approach. The study concludes that the success of KPPP implementation and local value integration is influenced by school leadership commitment, teachers’ pedagogical competence, and active community involvement. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature on character education rooted in local wisdom, and practically, it recommends the development of a contextualized KPPP guide and the optimization of local values across other schools.

Abstract

The limited number of in-depth studies on group norming dynamics and their implications for team effectiveness in secondary education settings—particularly in faith-based institutions such as SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Kertosono—serves as the background for this research. This phenomenon is crucial to examine, as it directly influences the achievement of collaborative learning goals, the development of social skills, and the formation of Islamic character in line with the school's vision. The study aims to comprehensively analyze the formation process of group norms, the mechanisms through which students internalize these norms, and their impact on team effectiveness. A qualitative approach was employed using an intrinsic case study design, allowing for an in-depth exploration of participants’ subjective experiences. The findings reveal that group norms emerge through repeated social interactions, are driven by religious values and school culture, and are reinforced by peer monitoring within teams. Both explicit and implicit norms contribute to patterns of communication, motivation, and team cohesion, directly affecting the effectiveness of collaborative task completion. These results support social identity theory and social learning theory in explaining the role of norms in group dynamics. Theoretically, this research contributes to the literature on group dynamics in Islamic educational contexts. Practically, it recommends that schools and educators develop intervention strategies to foster the formation of positive and constructive group norms. Furthermore, the study opens avenues for future research on student leadership roles and the impact of group norming on psychological well-being in secondary education environments.

Abstract

This study investigates the underlying factors influencing religious conversion to Islam in Surabaya, employing a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with individuals who had converted from various religious backgrounds, including Catholicism, Hinduism, Agnosticism, and one former Christian pastor, alongside leaders and members of the Mualaf Center Surabaya (Rumah Singgah Mualaf). The findings identify three primary pathways to conversion: (1) theological and intellectual exploration driven by doctrinal doubts or existential crises; (2) spiritual and mystical experiences, often involving dreams or emotional resonance with Islamic teachings; and (3) pragmatic and relational influences, including legal circumstances such as divorce, peer encouragement, and responses to social exclusion. These pathways reflect the complex interplay of cognitive, affective, and sociocultural dimensions in the conversion process. The study concludes that religious conversion is not a singular or linear event but a multifaceted and contextually embedded transformation shaped by intertwined personal and social catalysts.

Abstract

This study investigates the efficiency of guidance and counselling services in promoting academic excellence among students in selected public secondary schools in Wukari Town, Taraba State, Nigeria. The research specifically examines the influence of parental involvement and the role of school counsellors in enhancing students' academic performance. Grounded in Humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioral Theories, the study adopts a quantitative approach, employing an experimental design with both a treatment (experimental) group and a control group. Data were collected using the Students’ Response at Will (SRW) instrument. The findings indicate that while there is no statistically significant difference in academic improvement between the groups, guidance and counselling services nonetheless contribute meaningfully to students’ academic development, personal growth, and social adjustment. The results underscore the importance of integrating guidance and counselling programs within the educational system as supportive mechanisms for learners. The study concludes that students lacking access to counselling services tend to underperform academically, and that such services play a crucial role in promoting educational attainment and mental well-being. Accordingly, it is recommended that parents and school counsellors collaborate with teachers to support students holistically, and that adequate resources be allocated to strengthen guidance and counselling programs in secondary schools.

Abstract

The strategic role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in enhancing the quality of instruction has received considerable attention in various studies; however, comprehensive analyses of their multifaceted roles—as educators, mentors, facilitators, and motivators—within the context of madrasah ibtidaiyah remain limited. This study aims to analyze the role of PAI teachers in improving students’ learning quality at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Amanah Jeneponto. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using a case study design. Research informants included the school principal, PAI teachers, and other relevant stakeholders selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that PAI teachers fulfill multiple roles: as educators delivering instruction grounded in Islamic values, as mentors shaping students’ character, as facilitators fostering a conducive learning environment, and as motivators enhancing students’ enthusiasm for learning. Supporting factors include the teachers’ relevant academic qualifications and the availability of adequate learning resources. The primary challenge lies in the diverse characteristics of students, necessitating adaptive pedagogical approaches. The study concludes that the holistic role of PAI teachers significantly contributes to the academic and spiritual development of students. The findings underscore the need for educational institutions to strengthen both the pedagogical and religious competencies of PAI teachers to ensure effective, value-oriented learning.

Abstract

Despite increasing scholarly interest in inclusive Islamic religious education, limited attention has been given to the application of multisensory instructional techniques for teaching short prayers to children with Cerebral Palsy. This study investigates the implementation of multimodal methods and their influence on engagement and prayer pronunciation skills among students with physical disabilities. Adopting a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological case study design, the research involved one student with Cerebral Palsy, a classroom teacher, a special education assistant, and the student’s parents, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that the integration of incremental aural stimulation, visual supports, adaptive kinesthetic activities, and tactile engagement significantly improved recall, pronunciation confidence, and emotional involvement in the prayer-learning process. These outcomes highlight the pedagogical value of multisensory learning frameworks within inclusive Islamic education and underscore the importance of collaborative instructional design involving both educators and families. The study contributes to the discourse on accessibility in religious pedagogy and suggests avenues for further research across varied educational settings and learner populations.
