Abstract

Western colonization of Islamic countries produced complex and interwoven transformations across political, economic, social, and cultural domains. This article presents a comprehensive literature review to analyze the multidimensional impacts of colonial rule, highlighting how colonization facilitated resource exploitation, dismantled indigenous governance structures, and imposed foreign legal systems that continue to shape post-colonial economic dependencies. Socially, colonial administrations restructured educational systems by introducing Western curricula, institutionalizing colonial languages, and advancing cultural Westernization. Despite these systemic changes, Islam remained a central force of ideological resilience, offering moral legitimacy and organizational frameworks for anti-colonial resistance. The religion served as both a unifying identity and a source of mobilization against colonial domination. Case studies illustrate the varied expressions of Islamic resistance: in Indonesia and Algeria, Islamic discourse legitimized jihad and armed struggle; in Egypt, it fostered reformist and political movements such as the Muslim Brotherhood; and in the Indian subcontinent, it constituted a foundational element in the political advocacy for the establishment of Pakistan. These cases underscore Islam’s contextual adaptability and its capacity to generate diverse responses to colonial challenges. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the enduring socio-political and ideological legacies of colonialism in Islamic societies.

Abstract

In Central Kalimantan, values of tolerance are deeply rooted in the local wisdom of the Dayak community through the Huma Betang philosophy, which not only represents the structure of a longhouse but also symbolizes communal life grounded in the principles of togetherness, deliberation, and respect for social and religious differences. This study aims to develop an effective model of religious tolerance based on the Huma Betang philosophy within the context of Islamic higher education, with a case study on the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program in Central Kalimantan. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining qualitative techniques through interviews and observations with a quantitative survey administered to 62 students. The findings reveal that the religious tolerance model in the PAI program is built on three core pillars: (1) integration of tolerance values into the academic curriculum, (2) application of dialogical and contextual teaching strategies by lecturers, and (3) reinforcement of academic culture through interfaith student activities. Quantitative data confirm that the majority of students demonstrate increased awareness and inclusive attitudes toward religious diversity. This study underscores that the internalization of tolerance values in Islamic higher education requires the active role of institutions and lecturers in fostering a moderate, contextual, and locally grounded learning ecosystem. The implications suggest that this model is not only relevant for shaping moderate student character but also contributes to the broader goal of building a harmonious plural society in Indonesia.

Abstract

The study of Islam’s golden age in science, technology, and the arts (IPTEKS) is essential to understanding the foundations of Islamic civilization, which has made substantial contributions to the development of the modern world. This research focuses on the contributions of IPTEKS during the eras of Umar bin Khattab, the Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties, and the Ottoman Empire, while analyzing the application of IPTEKS principles within the context of management. The objective is to examine the relevance of classical Islamic achievements in IPTEKS to contemporary management principles, particularly in the fields of public administration, economics, education, and bureaucracy. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, based on literature review and comparative analysis between historical managerial practices and modern management theories. The findings reveal that Umar bin Khattab pioneered transparent systems of public and fiscal management; the Umayyad dynasty strengthened governmental communication and monetary systems; the Abbasid dynasty institutionalized scientific governance through Bayt al-Hikmah and fostered innovation; and the Ottoman Empire implemented centralized bureaucracy while systematically managing waqf and public infrastructure projects. The study concludes that the essence of IPTEKS in Islamic civilization lies not merely in the accumulation of knowledge, but in the ethical, socially just, and sustainable application of management principles. These findings underscore the historical relevance of Islamic IPTEKS in informing modern, humanistic, and values-based management development.

Abstract

Digital transformation has revolutionized modern management paradigms by positioning efficiency and accuracy as core pillars in enhancing organizational competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the integration of technology into managerial practices through the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Management Information Systems (MIS), and business process automation. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed, combining literature review with empirical observation of digital system implementations in both business and education sectors. The findings indicate that the integration of ERP and MIS enables accurate, transparent, and real-time information flows, directly supporting data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, business process automation accelerates the execution of operational tasks while significantly reducing the risk of human error. These results affirm that the effectiveness of digital management is not solely determined by technological proficiency but also by integrative strategies that align data, systems, and human resource competencies. Consequently, the success of organizational transformation hinges on adaptive capabilities to synergize technology and management as a unified, functional system oriented toward operational excellence and responsiveness to dynamic business environments.

Abstract

Inclusive education requires a paradigm shift in the evaluation of Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI) learning so that it accommodates diverse student characteristics without discrimination. This study aims to analyse the concepts and principles underpinning PAI evaluation in inclusive learning, identify the challenges encountered, formulate adaptive evaluation strategies, and examine the integration of authentic assessment and differentiated instruction in PAI evaluation within inclusive classrooms. Employing a qualitative literature review, the research analyses scientific publications published between 2020 and 2025 using content analysis techniques to identify patterns, themes, and key concepts. The findings show that inclusive PAI evaluation rests on principles of fairness, flexibility, and responsiveness by integrating formative and summative assessments across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains through quizzes, observations, discussions, projects, and authentic evaluations that are tailored to individual student needs. Differentiated instruction emerges as a key strategy, involving adjustments to content, process, product, and learning environment, and is supported by the CIPP evaluation model. However, implementation is constrained by limited teacher competence in handling students with special needs, inadequate facilities, scarce contextual learning resources, and systemic coordination issues within institutions. The study concludes that successful inclusive PAI evaluation requires synergy in developing adaptive instruments, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and the systematic application of authentic assessments grounded in contextual learning. It recommends that the government revise the Core and Basic Competencies of PAI to integrate inclusive learning indicators, provide adequate facilities, strengthen continuous teacher training, and optimise collaboration among IRE teachers, assistant teachers, parents, and the community to realise inclusive, high-quality, and meaningful Islamic Education. Abstract

This article analyzes the historical transformation of major civilizational paradigms concerning women, with a focus on the pre-Islamic period and the fundamental changes introduced by Islam. The main problem examined is how social, legal, and cultural constructions in various civilizations positioned women in a subordinate status, and the extent to which Islam corrected and revised these paradigms. The study employs a qualitative method with a library research design, using a historical-descriptive approach and textual analysis of classical sources, religious texts, and contemporary scholarship on gender in Islam. The findings show that in many civilizations, including pre-Islamic Arabia, women experienced discrimination in social, economic, and political spheres and were often reduced to objects and commodities. The prophetic mission of Prophet Muhammad shallallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam marked a paradigmatic turning point, as the Al-Qur’an presented a new framework that recognizes women as dignified subjects, bearers of spiritual, social, and legal rights, and partners with men in building civilization. Thus, Islam offers a normative correction to earlier patriarchal paradigms and establishes a universal foundation for gender justice. The implications of this study underscore the contemporary relevance of Islam’s normative values for re-reading discourses on women in the modern era and provide an ethical reference for efforts to realize a more just, inclusive social order grounded in gender justice.

Abstract

This study departs from the prevalence of risywah (bribery), which is often normalized through euphemistic terms, while research that specifically examines the halal–haram status of risywah based on Qur’anic verses remains limited. The study aims to elucidate the nature of risywah, the boundaries of its permissibility and prohibition, and its impact on individuals, society, and the state from the perspective of Islamic law. A qualitative method with a library research design was employed, using a heuristic examination of verses on risywah in the Al-Qur’an. Data were collected through documentation of the Al-Qur’an, classical and modern exegetical works, and fiqh literature, and were subsequently analyzed using a linguistic approach, historical analysis of asbāb an-nuzūl, and thematic coherence analysis (munāsabah). The findings show that risywah is fundamentally and unequivocally prohibited (haram) because it undermines justice, deprives individuals of their rights, and generates socio-political corruption, whereas claims of its “permissibility” generally arise from the misuse of terms such as gifts, tokens of appreciation, or administrative fees. Accordingly, the prohibition of risywah constitutes a basic principle in Islamic law that functions both preventively and correctively against various forms of corruption. The implications of this study underscore the importance of integrating Qur’anic values into the formulation of anti-corruption regulations and strengthening the ethical standards of law enforcement officers in Muslim-majority countries.

Abstract

Although tafsir ilmi (scientific exegesis) in Qur’anic studies has received considerable attention, research specifically examining the epistemology of tafsir ilmi in Tafsir Al-Muntakhab remains limited. This study aims to investigate the epistemology of tafsir ilmi in Tafsir Al-Muntakhab, particularly with regard to its sources, methods, and interpretive validity. Adopting a qualitative approach with a library research design, the study draws on classical and modern exegetical texts as data sources, collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using descriptive analysis. The findings show that Tafsir Al-Muntakhab employs a scientific approach in interpreting verses of Al-Qur’an by utilizing scientific theories to reveal the truth of the Qur’anic miracles, thereby presenting a form of tafsir ilmi that seeks to integrate revelation and scientific knowledge. These results contribute to the development of theories of scientific exegesis and broaden understanding of how scientific knowledge is applied in Qur’anic interpretation. The study concludes that a strong epistemological foundation for tafsir ilmi is crucial for enhancing Muslims’ understanding of the miraculous nature of Al-Qur’an in the context of science, and recommends the integration of scientific approaches into exegesis studies within educational institutions and curriculum policy. The implications of this research include theoretical contributions to enriching the literature on Qur’anic exegesis and practical implications for developing more science-based religious education, while also opening avenues for further exploration of the application of scientific theories in Qur’anic interpretation.

Abstract

Religious extremism in pesantren has recently shown a tendency to increase, partly because digital media facilitates the dissemination of intolerant narratives among adolescents. Although previous studies have examined the kitab kuning curriculum, the influence of kyai, and santri discussion forums, research that synthesizes strategic pesantren components for mitigating radicalism remains very limited. This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of Islamic religious education tactics in pesantren by examining curriculum, leadership, santri groups, the social environment of dormitories, and pesantren–parent relationships. A qualitative methodology with a case study design was employed, involving kyai, ustadz, and senior santri selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The findings show that strengthening the turāth curriculum, the influence of kyai, the function of the Bahtsul Masail forum, the development of santri organizations, dormitory discipline, and digital literacy contribute significantly to fostering moderate understanding and ideological resilience among santri. The study introduces the concept of adaptive moderation (moderasi adaptif), which integrates pesantren traditions with the need to respond to religious issues in digital spaces. It recommends enhancing digital literacy, reinforcing family engagement, and improving pesantren administration as continuous measures to mitigate radicalization, as well as further research to develop comparative models across pesantren.

Abstract

Contextual Arabic language instruction at MA Nurul Jadid is positioned as a key strategy for cultivating student character aligned with Pancasila values, particularly in response to the prevailing tendency of Arabic language teaching to focus narrowly on formal linguistic aspects that are less meaningful for everyday life. This study aimed to describe the role of contextual Arabic language learning in strengthening the Profil Pelajar Pancasila (Pancasila Student Profile, PPP) at MA Nurul Jadid. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation of teaching practices. The findings show that the contextual approach contributes positively to strengthening all six PPP dimensions, with particular emphasis on the gotong royong dimension through group work and the critical reasoning dimension through the analysis of religious texts. The implementation of learning activities such as discussions, conversation simulations, and the systematic linking of lesson content to students’ daily lives makes Arabic language learning more engaging, relevant, and meaningful. In conclusion, context-based Arabic language instruction has the potential to serve as an effective strategy for supporting the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka in shaping learners with a Pancasila-oriented character. The practical implications of this study underscore the importance of professional development for Arabic language teachers in designing contextual learning that is systematically integrated with PPP values so that character formation can proceed in a more structured and sustainable manner.
