Abstract

The increasingly intense competition in the Hajj and Umrah travel industry in Bukittinggi City has affected fluctuations in the number of pilgrims, particularly at PT Amanah Travel Indonesia, thus requiring an evaluation of the competitive strategies implemented by the company. This study aims to evaluate the competitive strategies used and to identify the most effective strategy for improving the company’s competitiveness and the number of pilgrims. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation with informants consisting of leaders, employees, and pilgrims, and were then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that PT Amanah Travel Indonesia implemented several competitive strategies, namely cost leadership, differentiation, focus, and a hybrid strategy. The cost leadership strategy was implemented through operational efficiency and the setting of affordable package prices. The differentiation strategy was realized through intensive worship services and the use of experienced mutawif. The focus strategy was directed at the segment of first-time and elderly pilgrims. Meanwhile, the hybrid strategy became the most dominant strategy because it was able to combine affordable prices with good service quality. This study concludes that the hybrid strategy is the most effective strategy for increasing the number of pilgrims. The implications of this study underscore the importance of improving service consistency, innovating digital promotion, and strengthening service quality to increase pilgrims’ trust and loyalty.

Abstract

Although competitive advantage strategies in culinary businesses have received attention in various studies, studies that specifically discuss the application of Porter’s Five Forces in increasing sales turnover in local culinary microenterprises remain limited. This study aims to analyze competitive advantage strategies based on Porter’s Five Forces in increasing sales turnover at Ayam Geprek Geprekkin Kubang Putiah, Agam Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving participants consisting of the business owner, employees, and consumers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the interactive thematic analysis technique of the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that the level of business competition was in the high category, with the threat of new entrants, the threat of substitute products, and buyers’ bargaining power as the dominant factors affecting the decline in sales turnover. The strategies that had been implemented, such as menu innovation, variations of sambal, promotion through social media, and the provision of discounts, had not been able to increase sales significantly. These findings contribute to the development of Porter’s Five Forces theory while broadening understanding of the competitive dynamics of microenterprises in the local culinary sector. This study concludes that sustainable product differentiation, improvement in service quality, and more effective marketing strategies are important factors in enhancing business competitiveness. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to enriching the strategic management literature and practical contributions for business actors in formulating more adaptive business strategies, while also opening opportunities for further research related to internal business factors and the use of digital technology.

Abstract

Organizational commitment is an important aspect of human resource management, particularly in public sector organizations, because it is closely related to the quality of performance and organizational sustainability. This study aims to analyze the effect of job involvement, job characteristics, and organizational support on employees’ organizational commitment at the Office of the Regent of South Solok. This study employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative design, involving 99 respondents determined through total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed with multiple linear regression using SPSS. The results showed that job involvement and job characteristics had a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment, whereas organizational support had no significant effect. These findings affirm that organizational commitment is more strongly influenced by employees’ attachment to their work and the quality of job design than by perceptions of organizational support. This study contributes to enriching the study of organizational behavior in the government sector and provides practical implications for government agencies in designing strategies to improve employee commitment through strengthening job involvement and improving job characteristics.

Abstract

The phenomenon of social media use, particularly TikTok, has attracted attention in various studies, but research that specifically discusses creators’ communication styles in endorsement activities, especially in local contexts such as Padang City, remains limited. This study aims to analyze Curip Almahdi’s communication style in endorsing products on TikTok social media and to understand its influence on audience responses. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving a number of informants consisting of the creator, business actors, and audiences selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation of TikTok content, and documentation, and were then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results showed that the communication style used was interpersonal, relaxed, open, and expressive, thereby creating emotional closeness and increasing audience engagement. In addition, the dominance of endorsement content, which reached around 70%, accompanied by high audience interaction, indicates that communication style plays an important role in the effectiveness of delivering promotional messages. These findings contribute to the development of communication style theory and interpersonal communication in the context of digital media, as well as broadening understanding of endorsement practices on social media. The conclusion of this study affirms the importance of an authentic and communicative style in enhancing the effectiveness of digital promotion, and implies the need for content creators and business actors to develop communication strategies that are more adaptive and creative. This study also opens opportunities for further research on the relationship between communication style and consumer behavior on social media.

Abstract

The effectiveness of fertilizer subsidy programs has become a concern in various studies, but research that specifically discusses the relationship between the effectiveness of fertilizer distribution based on the six-right indicators (6T) and changes in farmers’ income at the micro level remains limited. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the government’s fertilizer subsidy program on the income of rice farmers in Simaninggir Village, Sipirok Subdistrict, South Tapanuli Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a field research design, involving rice farmers receiving subsidized fertilizer who were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews and documentation, and were then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively based on the six-right indicators (6T). The results showed that the effectiveness of the fertilizer subsidy program had not been fully optimal, with the right type and right place indicators falling into the very effective category, right price in the effective category, right time and right quality in the moderately effective category, and right quantity in the ineffective category. In addition, the findings revealed an average decrease in farmers’ income of 1.19%, an increase in production costs of 3.28%, and a decline in profit of 2.50% during the 2024–2025 period. These findings indicate that the accuracy of the quantity and timing of fertilizer distribution plays an important role in supporting the success of the fertilizer subsidy program and improving farmers’ welfare. The conclusion of this study affirms the need to improve the distribution system of subsidized fertilizer so that its implementation becomes more effective, while also contributing theoretically to studies of agricultural policy and farm economics and providing practical implications for the government and stakeholders in improving the effectiveness of the fertilizer subsidy program.

Abstract

The development of the dried fish processing business from the perspective of Islamic Economics has received attention in several studies, but research that specifically discusses the integration of SWOT analysis with the principles of Islamic Economics in the context of local businesses remains limited. This study aims to analyze the development strategy of the dried fish processing business in Nagari Air Bangis based on internal and external factors from the perspective of Islamic Economics. This study employed a qualitative approach with a field research design, involving the main business actor as the informant selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, and were then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and supported by SWOT analysis. The results showed that the dried fish processing business had strengths in the availability of raw materials, the experience of the business actor, and the local workforce, but also faced weaknesses in the form of limited capital, the use of traditional technology, and dependence on weather conditions. The available opportunities included increasing market demand and the development of digital marketing, while the threats faced included fluctuations in fish catches and business competition. The most relevant strategy was the SO (Strengths–Opportunities) strategy, namely utilizing strengths to seize opportunities. These findings contribute to the development of strategic management studies based on SWOT analysis from the perspective of Islamic Economics and broaden understanding of business development grounded in sharia values. The conclusion of this study affirms the importance of integrating business strategies with the principles of Islamic Economics to achieve business sustainability, while also providing theoretical and practical implications for business actors and policymakers and opening opportunities for further studies on the role of technology and sharia financing.

Abstract

Product quality in the tofu industry has been a concern in various studies, but research that specifically discusses strategies for improving product quality in traditional tofu businesses in relation to increasing the number of customers remains limited. This study aims to analyze product quality improvement strategies in increasing the number of customers at Usaha Tahu Asri in Bonjol Subdistrict, Pasaman Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving informants consisting of the business owner, workers, and consumers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, and were then analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that product quality was not yet consistent, which was influenced by the use of non-standardized raw materials, production processes that were still manual without standard operating procedures, and quality control that was not yet systematic. In addition, limited product innovation and the low skill level of workers also affected product quality and the number of customers. These findings contribute to the development of studies on product quality and strategic management in the context of micro-enterprises based on traditional production, as well as broadening understanding of the importance of product quality in increasing the number of customers. The conclusion of this study affirms the importance of standardizing raw materials, production processes, quality control, and improving workers’ skills to enhance product quality and support business sustainability. The implications of this study include a theoretical contribution to the development of the MSME literature as well as practical implications for business actors in improving competitiveness.

Abstract

Layer duck farming businesses have received attention in several studies, but research that specifically discusses financial feasibility analysis integrated with the perspective of Islamic Economics remains limited. This study aims to analyze the financial feasibility of the Wijaya Farm layer duck business and to evaluate its conformity with the principles of Islamic Economics. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving the business owner and workers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, and were then analyzed using thematic analysis as well as financial feasibility calculations covering cash flow, payback period, average rate of return, net present value, profitability index, and break-even point. The results showed that the Wijaya Farm layer duck business was financially feasible, with a positive net cash flow of Rp1,240,858,000, a payback period of 4 years and 6 months, an average rate of return of Rp108,023,830, a net present value of Rp464,402,770, a profitability index of 16.48 times, and a break-even point that could be achieved and tended to decline from year to year. In addition, this business was also in accordance with the principles of Islamic Economics because it used personal capital without interest-based loans, thereby avoiding elements of riba, gharar, and maysir, and producing halal products. These findings contribute to the development of studies on investment feasibility and Islamic Economics and broaden understanding of livestock businesses based on sharia values. The conclusion of this study affirms the importance of financial feasibility analysis and sharia compliance in the development of livestock businesses, while also implying the need for more structured financial management for business actors.

Abstract

Sharia marketing strategies in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have received attention in several studies, but research that specifically discusses the integration of the marketing mix (4P) with the functions of sharia business management (POAC) in facing modern market competition remains limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation of sharia marketing strategies and their management from the perspective of sharia business management at Toko Ikhlas MSME in Nagari Koto Baru, IV Nagari Subdistrict, Sijunjung Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving the main informants, namely the business owner, employees, and customers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, and were then analyzed using interactive analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that Toko Ikhlas had implemented sharia marketing strategies through the marketing mix, which includes product, price, place, and promotion, adjusted to community needs and sharia values such as honesty and justice. In addition, the functions of sharia business management, which include planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling, had been implemented, although they were still simple and had not yet been formally documented. These findings contribute to the development of sharia business management theory and broaden understanding of sharia marketing practices at the MSME level. The conclusion of this study affirms the importance of integrating sharia marketing strategies with systematic business management in facing modern market competition, while also indicating the need to enhance the use of digital technology and business planning among MSME actors.

Abstract

Efforts to increase the income of oil palm farmers have received attention in several studies, but research that specifically discusses the integration of farmers’ income improvement strategies with the perspective of Islamic Economics in a local context remains limited. This study aims to analyze farmers’ efforts to increase income in Jorong Simpang Tiga Alin, Gunung Tuleh Subdistrict, from the perspective of Islamic Economics. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving 20 informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews and observation, and were then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that oil palm production tended to decline during the 2022–2024 period even though the land area remained relatively constant, while farmers’ income fluctuated from year to year. The efforts made by farmers to increase income included optimizing land use, using superior seedlings, applying intensive fertilization, and implementing simple mechanization. These findings indicate that increasing farmers’ income is determined not only by the efficiency of managing production factors, but also by the application of the values of justice, maslahah, and sustainability in farm management. The conclusion of this study affirms the importance of strengthening production efficiency and access to resources in order to increase farmers’ income, while also providing theoretical implications for the development of Islamic Economics studies and practical implications for the formulation of agricultural policies that are more supportive of farmers’ welfare.
