Abstract

Background: Inflammatory cells and fibroblasts have an essential role in the wound healing process. Persea americana Mill. seed categorises as a waste; it contains rich nutrients that can accelerate wound healing activity. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of Persea americana Mill. seed against inflammatory cells and fibroblast formation in tooth extraction socket healing. Methods: Ninety-six Sprague Dawley rats had their lower left molars removed. Forty-eight rats tested for inflammatory cells were divided into four groups: negative control group (IC1), positive control group (IC2), Persea americana Mill. seed extract concentrations of 50% (IE1) and 90% (IE2). Another 48 rats used for fibroblast were divided into three groups: the control group (FC1), Persea americana Mill. seed concentrations of 50% (FE1) and 90% (FE2). The gel was applied to the socket under general anaesthesia. Four rats from each group were decapitated for histopathological tissue preparations with Haematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining on the 3rd, 5th and 7th days for inflammatory cells and the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 14th days for fibroblast formation. The preparations for each research were scored under the microscope at 40x magnification. The obtained data was analysed using the Kruska—Wallis and the Mann—Whitney test. Results: A significant decrease (p<0.05) of inflammatory cells in IE2 on the 5th and 7th day. A significant increase (p<0.05) of fibroblast formation between treatment and control groups and no significant difference (p>0.05) between FE1 and FE2 was based on the interval days. Conclusion: Persea americana Mill. seed extract can decrease the inflammatory cells and accelerate the fibroblast formation in tooth extraction socket healing.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Wound healing is an essential biological process that consists of sequential steps aimed at restoring the architecture and function of damaged cells and tissues. There are empirical evidences of using pure coffee bean powder as an alternative medicine in treating various types of wounds. However, there is limited data on coffee-induced wound healing, especially migration of cells. Therefore, current study was conducted to investigate the role of coffee extract in cell migration, especially fibroblast which is important for wound healing.METHODS: Coffea canephora beans were prepared, extracted and added in the NIH3T3 cell culture in final concentration of 2.5% and 5%. Then cytotoxicity test was performed using Na,30-[(phenylamino)-carbonyl]-3,4-tetrazolium]-bis(4-methoxy-6-nitro) benzenesulfonic acid hydrate (XTT) assay. Meanwhile, cell migration test was performed with scratch assay. All results were statistically analyzed.RESULTS: The 2.5% or 5% Coffea canephora beans extract (CCBE)-treated NIH3T3 cell numbers were almost similar with the numbers of NIH3T3 cells in starvation medium merely. Meanwhile, 2.5% and 5% CCBE showed significant decrease of the widths of scratched areas compared to starvation medium merely (ANOVA with LSD Post-hoc, p=0.000). After 24 h and 48 h, the average widths of 2.5% and 5% CCBE-treated scratched areas were 235.68±22.79, 50.36±5.29, 229.95±23.01, 27.68±2.83, respectively.CONCLUSION: Since both 2.5% and 5% CCBE are potential in inducing migration of fibroblast (NIH3T3 cell) and do not induce cytotoxicity, the CCBE could be potential as an agent for wound healing.KEYWORDS: coffee, Coffea canephora, NIH3T3, migration, cytotoxicity

Abstract

Background: Edentulous cases or missing teeth is one of the problems complained about by patients in daily dental practice. Missing teeth are mostly discovered in adult patients, especially in posterior teeth such as premolar and molar. Nowadays, dental implant restoration in posterior single-tooth loss cases has been stated as the best treatment option. Nevertheless, hypertension is one of the risk factors that might cause difficulties in the dental implant procedure. Purpose: to compare the insertion of a dental implant in single-tooth loss between a patient without any systemic disease and a patient with a history of hypertension, using the same dental implant system and in the same timeframe. Case and Procedure: Case # 1, female patient age 43 years old came to RSGM-P FKG Usakti to have a dental implant insertion in the lower right posterior region. There was an absence of system disease in this patient. There were no difficulties during the dental implant insertion in tooth 46, therefore the osseointegration occurred nicely and the restorative crown insertion was precisely inserted. Case # 2, male patient age 49 years old with a chief complaint of missing tooth in the lower left posterior region, wanted to have a dental implant insertion. The patient had a history of hypertension with a regular daily intake of Amlodipine 5 mg once a day. Osseointegration occurred well after the dental implant insertion in tooth 35. However, during the screw uncovering stage, there was bone growth covering the surface of the cover screw. Therefore, removal of the bone growth should be done by using a round bur. In the impression-taking stage, there was slight gingival enlargement or overgrowth that almost covered the path of crown insertion. Gingivectomy had to be done before taking the impression in order to achieve precise crown insertion. The risk factor in the second case is that the patient consumed Amlodipine 5 mg daily, which causes overgrowth of bone and soft tissue surrounding the cover screw and implant fixture. Conclusion: There are differences in the outcome of the dental implant insertion in a patient without systemic disease and a patient with a history of hypertension with a daily intake of Amlodipine 5 mg medication; the factor that caused difficulties in the prosthetic stage is the presence of the alveolar bone and soft-tissue overgrowth.

Abstract

Background: Inadequate bone condition in dental implants can be a fundamental problem. The success of implant therapy depends on adequate bone thickness at the implant site. Inadequate bone condition due to atrophy, periodontal disease, trauma, or vertical, horizontal, and sagittal intermaxillary relationships can result in insufficient bone volume for implant placement. Bone augmentation for implant treatment it’s a common practice to obtain the function and aesthetics expected in areas of inadequate bone. Several techniques and materials of bone augmentation with varying success rates are known, one of which is Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). Objective: To add information about the management of bone augmentation in dental implants using the Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) technique. Case Report: A 20-year-old female patient attended a clinic to solve a functional problem and prevent dental shifting after tooth extraction. She wanted to have permanent dentures for the left mandibular. After undergoing several examinations, it was decided to perform dental implants on tooth 36, diameter 3.4 mm and length 10.5 mm with a cemented-screw type PFM crown. In this case, the bone augmentation technique is Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) with allograft bone grafts. After being observed for approximately one year, it appears that new bone formation has occurred, which supports the success of the dental implant treatment. Conclusion: Various bone augmentation techniques are effective in correcting inadequate bone conditions prior to implant placement.

Abstract

According to Riskesdas data in 2018, the prevalence of caries in Indonesia is 66% and data on toothbrush behavior in the population aged 3 years and over shows that the correct brushing behavior is still below 4%. The covid-19 pandemic situation that is still unfinished has delayed the maintenance of dental and oral health, especially routine examinations of dental and oral health The school age period is the most important time to start maintaining healthy teeth and mouth, this is because the good quality of health is a reflection of the quality of human resources. In an effort to help deal with this problem, counseling and education were carried out on how to maintain oral and dental health in the Al Azhar 8 Islamic junior high school (SMPI) community, Bekasi. The purpose of this activity is to increase knowledge and provide training on how to maintain and care for dental and oral health while at home. The method used in this counseling and training is carried out online using the zoom application. The main material given to the participants was to introduce how to maintain oral and dental health with the "SIBENUR" method (dental floss brush and gargle). This method can make it easier for counseling participants to remind them how to maintain healthy teeth and mouth at home. Evaluation of knowledge improvement in this counseling uses pretest and post test using the Google Form. The aims of this test is to measure the level of knowledge. The results obtained from 3 groups of respondents divided by class group showed data on an average increase in knowledge of 76%. It is hoped that this increase in knowledge can also improve the degree of dental and oral health in the community, especially in the target partner community

Abstract

The problem of domestic waste in Indonesia related to the behavior of people who do not understand the impact of poor environmental hygiene which will lead to the emergence of various diseases in the body and oral cavity. Domestic waste is the remaining waste generated from household activities. Domestic waste is divided into organic that can be processed and inorganic that cannot be processed. The most pronounced impact is the emergence of various diseases such as intestinal worms, diarrhea, cholera, typhoid and anemia while infection can occur in the oral cavity so that infection can occur locally or systemically. Community Service (PkM) was carried out offline at the Grogol Petamburan Hall which was attended by 37 representatives of dasawisma and jumantik cadres, heads of RT 01 – 14 and RW 01. The material provided was in the form of various kinds of domestic waste (organic and inorganic), management of domestic waste, diseases that arise in the body and oral cavity due to a dirty environment, how to wash hands and how to brush your teeth properly in the form of ppt, e-flyer and video. Evaluation of success by conducting a pre and post test containing 10 knowledge questions and 10 attitude questions. There was an increase in participants knowledge of 22.3% and an improvement in attitude towards a better one. The results obtained from this activity are very good with partners willing to carry out PkM activities. At the end of the activity, toothpaste and a donation of trash bins were given to each RT.

Abstract

During phagocytosis, phagocyte cells discharge reactive oxygen species referred to as respiratory bursts, inducing a rise in pro‐oxidants and subjecting the cell to oxidative stress. Such stress is a biological mechanism related to an imbalance in pro‐oxidant/antioxidant homeostasis, which generates toxic reactive oxygen. Encapsulation is a coating process to improve the stability of bioactive compounds from lemongrass extract. Therefore, this study aims to determine the encapsulation activity of lemongrass leaf extract with chitosan X. gideon (LEChXg) to reduce the oxidative stress of fibroblasts. The research used the human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cell line, comprising negative and positive controls and use of LEChXg 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 µg/mL. HDF cell migration was evaluated by employing the scratch wound healing method and the wound closure was oberseved at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 24 h intervals. The cell proliferation was observed at 24, 48, and 72 h using CCK‐8 at a 450 nm wavelength. The results showed that the observations at 0, 2, and 4 h did not demonstrate any significant difference on the cell migration (p > 0.05) among the groups. However, the wound closure at 4 and 6 h showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) with LEChXg 300 µg/mL. Despite the lack of any significant variation observed up to 24 h, fibroblast subjected to the stressor did not achieve complete closure. The groups treated with LEChXg were more stable in maintaining fibroblast proliferation up to the end of the observation than those with stressors at 24, 48, and 72 h. Fibroblast induced with a stressor was also more stable in maintaining migration and proliferation in groups receiving LEChXg 300 µg/mL.

Abstract

In November 2021, Covid-19 vaccination coverage in the special capital area (DKI) Jakarta stage 1 (one) reached 78.1% and stage 2 (two) 60.4% for local identity cards (KTP) DKI Jakarta. Covid-19 vaccination coverage for area the Palmerah District stage 1 (one) has reached 96.56% but unfortunately for stage 2 (two) it has not met the expected target. In order to reduce the Covid-19 case, the regional administration (Pemda) of DKI Jakarta has continued given education and socialization to increase public awareness in implementing health protocols and providing Covid-19 vaccinations to the public.Another problem that occurs in the Palmerah District is the increase cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). This increase is due to the rainy season which is the breeding time for the Aedes Aegepty mosquito. DHF can be prevented through controlling the Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) programme. Public awareness for healthy behavior and maintaining a mosquito-free home environment is still lacking therefor counseling and training are needed for the community to prevent dengue.Since the Covid 19 pandemic, the Dental Health Education Program could not be implemented in Palmerah Health Center due to pandemic and limited resources. Providing dental health education (DHE) to health cadres will increase oral health in community. The results obtained after the training significantly increased the knowledge of the cadres and community members who participated in the event. Thus this collaboration program should continue regularly to maintain knowledge and health practice in community.

Abstract

Water is crucial for human survival, serving both consumption needs and daily activities. However, water contamination often occurs when it is not managed and stored properly. Contaminated drinking water can pose health risks, causing various digestive diseases and even death, especially in children. Therefore, the management and storage of water require special attention. Indonesian communities, especially those in the RW 006, Tanjung Duren Selatan, are still limited in gathering clean water without proper water management for it to be made suitable for consumption. In response to this concern, a program was implemented to enhance awareness and empower the residents of RW 006, Tanjung Duren Selatan, focusing on improving environmental sanitation and the effective management of safe drinking water. The activities took place at the secretariat office of RW 006, Tanjung Duren Selatan, on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 08:30 to 10:15 AM. A total of 25 participants filled out attendance and completed pre-test questionnaires. Participants were then provided with education and training by the team on environmental sanitation, Community-Based Total Sanitation (STMB), proper management of household waste, and the handling of water intended for consumption. The post-test results showed an improvement in participants' knowledge and understanding regarding the enhancement of environmental sanitation and the management of water ready for consumption in households. It is hoped that participants will serve as links in communication and educators within the local community, ultimately contributing to improved sanitation and an enhanced quality of life.
