Abstract

This research was intended to find and describe the fulfillment of hierarchy of needs of Elinor in the “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen which mostly about the story of Dashwood family, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The story began with their father’s death, Henry Dashwood. He left only a small fortune to Elinor, Marianne, their mother and younger sister, while most of Dashwood's wealth and property were handed over to John, Henry's son from his previous marriage. Elinor's struggles to fulfill her needs began with discomfort that occurred in her family. The method used was a qualitative descriptive, in which the data were in the form of words, sentences, and paragraphs that identified the fulfillment of hierarchy of needs. The data source was the "Sense and Sensibility" novel by Jane Austen and the data collection techniques were reading and note-taking. The data were analyzed by identifying, classifying, describing and drawing conclusions. The results and discussion in this article showed that in fulfilling her physiological, safety, love and belonging, and esteem needs, Elinor faced struggles and twist and turn. Those four needs were found sequentially in the story, but the need for self-actualization had not been reflected in the novel.

Abstract

Geometry is one of many ways to understand the real world, since we can find Geometry concept in real life daily applications. Through some nets of a cube dices, the researcher would like to explore the transformation of object representation. How is the 5th grade elementary school student being able to transform an object representation?  Actually it is a process which using the principles of transformation to describe an object with language, pictures or gestures. The subjects of this study were the concepts of students visual in 5th grade of elementary school. The researcher conducted a learning style test to the 5th grade students and gave a geometry problem to them; these can be used to indicate the profile the transformation of object representation on visual subject. The result of the research showed that subjects using a frame of reference, changing the point of view from 2 dimensions to 3 dimensions object, it was changing the shape of 2D to 3D by their imagination and also moving the objects.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of metacognitive awareness of high school students in using the inquiry learning model with Concept mapping techniques. This study used a quasi-experimental study involving students of class X Mathematics and Natural Sciences as the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group applied the inquiry learning model with Concept mapping techniques, while the control group applied the STAD learning model with information discussions by forming a small group. Kolmogorov Smirnov's one sample test and homogeneity were used to select the experimental group and the control group. The measurement of students' metacognitive awareness in this study used an MAI (Metacognitive Awareness Inventory) questionnaire. The number of questions consists of 35 items, where the question is divided into three factors involved in the knowledge of consciousness, and five other factors related to the regulation of consciousness. The data on the value of metacognitive awareness used to measure students' metacognitive awareness was obtained from the MAI questionnaire given to students both in the experimental class and in the control class before and after the study, the data obtained was then analyzed using the ANAKOVA test. MAI treatment has a probability value of 0.008 which is smaller than 0.05 (p = 0.008 <0.05) which means that there is a significant influence on the inquiry learning model with Concept mapping techniques on students' metacognition. Based on the Normalized gain test, the n-gain value is 0.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills (CTS) are important skills for students to filter information in the era of globalization. With the rapid growth of education, there goes the more significant challenges and advanced-technological transformation. GEN Z learners, called "digital natives," quickly obtained the information. The ability to think critically is crucial to help the students' filter information accurately. However, several kinds of research reported that students with low CTS. Previous research claimed theoretically that POGIL learning model research was effective for improving the CTS. This research was to verify the effectiveness of POGIL in history learning. In this quasi-experimental design, as many as 30 students testified their CTS performance on their pre-and post-learning papers. The data were analyzed by using t-test. The result shows that there is a significant difference (p< 0.005) between after treatment using POGIl and before. The average CTS scores of students before being taught by POGIL was 46.8, and after learning was 81.7. It shows that the POGIL learning model effectively improved the students' CTS.

Abstract

Indonesia has participated in PISA studies 7 times to measure the mathematical literacy abilities of Indonesian students. However, the results obtained show that Indonesian students are always ranked in bottom 10th. This proves that the mathematical literacy ability of Indonesian students is very low. In response to this, efforts need to be made in improving students' mathematical literacy skills to be better, namely by training students to get used to solving problems that have PISA standards. This study aims to describe how to train students' mathematical literacy skills through PISA standardized questions with the context of Traditional Games. The method used in this research is library research. The results of this study indicate that training students' mathematical literacy skills can be done by accustoming students to solve PISA standardized problems with contexts that are close to students' daily lives namely using the context of Traditional Games.

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum focuses on achieving core competencies in attitudes, knowledge, and skills. The learning process which was replaced with online learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic does not mean eliminating the achievement of core competencies, especially attitude competencies. The positive attitude mandated by the 2013 curriculum is in the philosophy of Education in the Dayak tribe of Central Kalimantan, namely "Pintar tuntang Harati". The purpose of this scientific work is to provide a solution by first describing specifically the implementation of online learning in one of the Kotawaringin Timur district schools that are included in the co-pandemic red zone area in Central Kalimantan and student responses to online learning. The results of this study indicate that online learning has not fully integrated attitude core competencies. Attitude competencies can be achieved in online learning by making mathematics learning meaningful. The integration of meaningful mathematics learning with the attitude of "pintar tuntang harati" can go through three stages. This stage is to make learning close to students, learning not limited to online applications, and teachers as role models.
