Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of using the framework media (number cards) in improving the understanding of ordering numbers in grade II students of SDN 3 Mayong Kidul. The problem in this study is that many students still have difficulty in understanding the basic concept of number order, which is caused by conventional learning methods and the lack of student interest in mathematics. This study uses a quantitative approach with a Pretest-posttest design to 15 students. Data were collected through multiple choice tests before and after using the framework media, then analyzed using the Normality Test, Paired T Test and N-Gain Test with the help of IBM SPSS Software. The results of this study showed a significant increase in the results of the study on student learning outcomes, with an average posttest score of 82.13, higher than the pretest average of 55.86. The Paired T Test showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (<0.05), which means that the use of framework media is effective in improving students' understanding of ordering numbers. The N-Gain test shows an average value of 0.6258 in the moderate category, which means there is a difference or increase in value before and after using the framework media on understanding how to order numbers. So it can be concluded that the framework media can be an innovative solution to overcome the difficulty of learning mathematics on the material of random number sequences from smallest to largest and vice versa.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of intrinsic motivation on mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students in a pesantren-based school and to analyze the role of self-directed learning intensity in strengthening that influence. A quantitative approach with a survey method was employed. The sample consisted of 30 eighth-grade students of SMP Al Halim, West Java, selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included an intrinsic motivation questionnaire (adapted from the MSLQ) and a self-directed learning intensity questionnaire (adapted from verified international literature), both of which were validated prior to use. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to assess the contribution of each variable to students’ mathematics learning outcomes. The results indicated that both intrinsic motivation and self-directed learning intensity had a significant positive effect on mathematics learning outcomes (p < 0.05). Simultaneously, the two independent variables explained 55.6% of the variation in students’ mathematics achievement (R² = 0.556), while the remaining 44.4% was influenced by other factors beyond the scope of this study. These findings suggest that students with strong internal motivation and consistent independent study habits tend to achieve better academic performance in mathematics. The implications of this research highlight the importance of instructional strategies that not only address cognitive aspects but also foster intrinsic motivation and promote independent learning habits, particularly in pesantren-based educational environments.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ learning outcomes in arithmetic sequences through the implementation of the open-ended problems learning model. The background of the research highlights students' difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts, particularly arithmetic sequences, due to teacher-centered learning methods and limited student engagement. A total of 88.88% of students in class X-TKJ at SMK Arrahmah Papar did not meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 75 in the Mid-Semester Exam. The open-ended problems approach was chosen based on its proven effectiveness in enhancing students' critical and creative thinking skills (Nazareth & Mukhlis, 2022). This study used a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research subjects consisted of 36 students. Data were collected through mathematics pretest and posttest, teacher observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, with the average score increasing from 61.39 (pretest) to 82.36 (posttest). The Paired Sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Teacher activity was rated very good with an average of 88.15%, while student responses were positive with an average of 81.18%. The study concludes that the open-ended problems learning model is effective in improving both the learning outcomes in arithmetic sequences and students’ critical and creative thinking abilities

Abstract

This study aims to identify the differences in mathematical problem-solving abilities between students taught using the Flipped Classroom learning model with the aid of Short Video Tips and Tricks media and students taught using the conventional learning model. This research uses a quantitative approach. The type of research that has been used is a quasi-experiment. The research sample consisted of 62 students from the 10th grade at SMK NU 1 Karanggeneng, comprising 31 students in the experimental group and 31 students in the control group. The sampling for this research was conducted using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. The instrument used in this study is a test instrument in the form of a pretest and posttest to measure students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. Data analysis was conducted by applying the t-test with prerequisite tests including normality and homogeneity tests. The t-test data analysis yielded significant results (sig 2-tailed) <0.001. Considering the significance value is lower than 0.05, it can be stated that there is a significant difference between the two groups. This indicates that the Flipped Classroom learning model supported by Short Video Tips and Tricks media effectively improves students mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an interactive learning media called PATRIKS (Matrix Application) based on PowerPoint and analyse its impact on students' motivation to learn mathematics. The method used in this research employs the R&D (Research and Development) approach with the ADDIE development model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The data collection instruments include validation questionnaires from subject matter experts, media experts, practitioners, student responses, motivation instrument experts, and student motivation questionnaires. This research involves students of class XI-7 at SMAN 1 Plemahan as subjects. The research stages include media needs analysis, product design, development and validation by material experts (80% valid) and media experts (99.13% very valid), as well as trials with practitioners (97.4% very practical) and small groups of students (83.69% very practical). The study results indicate a significant increase in student motivation after using the PATRIKS media, with an overall average rising from 61.3% (very low) to 79.1% (moderate). The highest increase was seen in the aspects of desire and aspiration to succeed (from 63.9% to 85.1%), a conducive environment (from 58.8% to 83.3%), and interactivity of the learning media (from 61.3% to 83.3%). Nevertheless, the aspect of perseverance in facing tasks is still relatively low (70.8%) and independence in learning is in the moderate category (75.4%), indicating the need for further development of media features to encourage student perseverance and independence. Overall, the interactive learning media PATRIKS has proven to be valid, practical, and effective in enhancing students' learning motivation, making it a promising educational tool in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to design a Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) as an alternative approach to overcoming learning obstacles in teaching the topic of linear equations in one variable at the junior high school level. Based on observations and diagnostic tests conducted with 23 seventh-grade students at Junior High School 1 Sariwangi, four major learning obstacles were identified: (1) difficulty in understanding variables as representations of numbers (ontogenic obstacle), (2) difficulty in translating word problems into linear equations of one variable form (ontogenic obstacle), (3) lack of visual aids to grasp the concept of balance (didactical obstacle), and (4) a procedural teaching approach that lacks conceptual reinforcement (didactical obstacle). This research follows the preliminary design phase of a design research methodology, with data collected through observations, diagnostic tests, and qualitative analysis. The findings were used to develop an HLT that includes learning objectives, student activities, predictions of students’ thought processes, and teacher interventions. The HLT was constructed progressively, beginning with real-world contexts, followed by visual representations (model of), conceptual thinking tools (model for), and culminating in symbolic (abstract) solutions. This HLT design is expected to serve as a practical guide for teachers in developing more meaningful, adaptive instruction that aligns with students’ ways of thinking and bridges conceptual difficulties in learning linear equations of one variable.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and students' perceptions of problem-solving strategies within the context of mathematical literacy. Using a quantitative correlational approach, this research involved 20 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using two Likert scale questionnaires to measure self-efficacy and perceptions of problem-solving strategies. As the data were not normally distributed based on the Shapiro-Wilk test (p < 0.05), the relationship was analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a correlation coefficient (rₛ) of 0.293 with a significance value (p-value) of 0.210. Since the p-value > 0.05, it is concluded that there is no statistically significant relationship between self-efficacy and students' perceptions of problem-solving strategies. Although a weak positive trend was observed, the null hypothesis stating no significant relationship could not be rejected in this study.
