Abstract

Students' mathematical problem-solving abilities tend to be low because learning has not accommodated differences in learning styles and the lack of integration of local cultural elements in the context of the material being studied. This study was conducted with the aim of describing ethnomathematics-based problem-solving abilities in the Boran and Caping Ngancak dances as viewed from the perspective of students' learning styles. The research method used was descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were 6 ninth-grade students selected using a purposeful sampling technique based on the results of a learning style questionnaire. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data were obtained through a learning style questionnaire, ethnomathematics-based problem-solving tests in the Boran and Caping Ngancak dances, and interview guidelines based on Polya indicators. The results showed that students with visual learning styles were able to fulfill all indicators of problem-solving abilities. Students with auditory learning styles only fulfilled two indicators, namely planning and implementing a solution plan. Meanwhile, students with a kinesthetic learning style were only able to fulfill one indicator, namely implementing a plan/solving a problem. This study shows the influence of learning styles on the achievement of problem-solving ability indicators in the context of ethnomathematics, so it is important for teachers to accommodate differences in learning styles in contextual learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze how students’ mathematical creative thinking skills in solving PISA-type problems are viewed from the perspective of the field-independent cognitive style. This research employs a descriptive method using a qualitative research approach. The subjects of the study were taken from Grade X students of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling, with one of the criteria being that the students possess a field-independent cognitive style and complete a creative thinking ability test. The instruments used in this study include a cognitive style test, a creative thinking ability test, and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique applied was qualitative analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Students with a field-independent cognitive style were able to meet at least the originality indicator, which is categorized at the moderately creative level. This is due to the tendency of students with a field-independent cognitive style to focus on the most correct answer and the easiest problem-solving strategy, while still being able to think independently and generate strategies based on their own reasoning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between mathematical anxiety and the mathematical connection ability of students in grades XI and XII of SMAS Plus Permata Insani Islamic School. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach involving 30 students. The selection of subjects was carried out using the purpsive sampling technique, such as studying row and series material. The instruments used were a mathematical anxiety questionnaire and a mathematical connection test. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, which included mean values, standard deviation, frequency distribution, and cross-tabulation. The results showed that most students experienced math anxiety in the medium category, which was related to the ability to make mathematical connections that were also in the medium category. Some students with high anxiety still show high connection ability, while students with low anxiety sometimes show low connection ability. These findings suggest that math anxiety is not the only factor affecting students' mathematical connection abilities, with other factors such as motivation and environmental support also playing an important role. This research suggests that teachers create an emotionally comfortable learning atmosphere and encourage increased motivation and appropriate learning strategies.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in shaping character, developing potential, and preparing students to face future challenges. Lack of appreciation for student learning outcomes is a significant issue that can negatively impact student learning motivation. This study aims to determine the application of gamification to the Permutation and Combination material implemented at SMK PGRI 3 Blitar. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) by adopting the Arikunto cycle which refers to the basic model of Kurt Lewin. The research subjects were 22 students from grade XII consisting of 7 boys and 15 girls. The research sample was taken from students in one class recommended by the mathematics subject teacher based on the consideration that the class was considered representative of the characteristics and in accordance with the research needs. The application of the gamification approach was carried out according to the procedures of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. Data collection instruments and techniques were carried out through tests and observations. Tests were used to measure the level of students' conceptual understanding of the permutation and combination material, while observations were carried out to monitor learning activities, student engagement, and their responses during the learning process. The results of the study showed that the final cycle test had achieved classical completeness with a completeness percentage of 81.81% and the results of observations of teacher and student activities at each meeting were in the very good criteria.
