Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of phonetic symbols in enhancing the pronunciation skills of second-semester students in the English Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang. The research utilized a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: an experimental group that was taught using phonetic symbols and a control group that followed conventional pronunciation methods. Both groups underwent pre-tests and post-tests to evaluate their pronunciation abilities. Results were analyzed using t-tests with the aid of SPSS software. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the pronunciation skills of the experimental group, with the post-test scores showing a substantial increase compared to the control group. Additionally, the students expressed a strong interest in using phonetic symbols for pronunciation practice, as indicated by their responses to a questionnaire. This study concludes that teaching pronunciation through phonetic symbols effectively enhances students' pronunciation abilities and is well-received by learners.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges faced by law students in Sidrap Regency when learning Legal English, with a specific focus on the roles of vocabulary acquisition and student motivation. Legal English, as a specialized form of language used in the legal profession, poses unique learning challenges, particularly in terms of its complex terminology and concepts. The research highlights how a limited vocabulary can hinder students' understanding and application of legal texts, while also examining the impact of motivation on the learning process. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study gathers data from both surveys and interviews with law students in Sidrap Regency, aiming to uncover the strategies employed to overcome these obstacles and the factors that influence their motivation. The findings suggest that while vocabulary expansion is crucial, fostering intrinsic motivation through relevant teaching methods and a supportive learning environment can significantly enhance students' engagement and proficiency in Legal English. This research contributes to the understanding of effective pedagogical approaches in teaching Legal English to law students in regional contexts

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of communicative drilling in improving the English pronunciation skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Pancarijang. A pre-experimental research design was employed, involving a single class of 22 students selected through random sampling. The research instruments consisted of a pronunciation test and a questionnaire measuring students' interest in learning pronunciation through communicative drilling. The results revealed a significant improvement in students' pronunciation ability, as indicated by the increase in mean scores from the pre-test (40.94) to the post-test (75.88). Furthermore, the analysis of students’ interest showed a high level of engagement and motivation, with 82.2% of students expressing strong or moderate interest in the learning process. Statistical analysis using a paired samples t-test confirmed that the difference between pre- and post-test scores was significant (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that communicative drilling is an effective and engaging method for enhancing students' English pronunciation. The study highlights the importance of interactive and repetitive pronunciation practice in fostering both skill development and learner motivation.

Abstract

Writing remains one of the most demanding skills for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, particularly in producing descriptive texts that require lexical variety, grammatical accuracy, and mechanical precision. Traditional approaches in Indonesian classrooms often emphasize form-focused drills and teacher-centered instruction, which may limit students’ engagement and creativity. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Role–Audience–Format–Topic (RAFT) strategy in enhancing senior secondary students’ descriptive writing performance. A quasi-experimental design was employed with 48 twelfth-grade students from MA Batusitanduk, divided into an experimental group taught using RAFT (n = 24) and a control group taught through conventional methods (n = 24). Both groups completed a pre-test and post-test assessed on vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics using a validated analytic rubric. Results revealed that the experimental group achieved a significantly higher mean post-test score (M = 72.33) than the control group (M = 65.33), t(46) = -5.432, p < .001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.52, 95% CI [8.32, 15.02]). These findings confirm that RAFT effectively scaffolds planning and audience awareness, leading to substantial improvement in descriptive writing. The study offers theoretical implications for integrating cognitive and genre-based pedagogy, and practical recommendations for EFL teachers seeking to promote meaningful and engaging writing instruction in secondary education.

Abstract

The intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and human creativity has emerged as a dynamic area of exploration, particularly with the development of generative AI models like GPT-4, DALL·E, and MidJourney. These tools not only automate tasks but also actively contribute to creative processes, resulting in collaborative co-creation between humans and machines. This study investigates the evolving role of AI in creative industries, analyzing secondary data from literature published between 2022 and 2025. By examining key theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and trends, the study identifies the methodological shift from experimental design to reflective frameworks, highlights a lack of unified definitions for co-creation, and emphasizes the growing need to engage with the cultural and ethical implications of AI in creativity. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of machine–human co-creation, its implications for authorship, and the future trajectory of creative partnerships between humans and AI.

Abstract

Literature-based research plays a vital role in the social sciences by systematically gathering, reviewing, and synthesising existing theories, empirical studies, and methodologies. This approach strengthens the development of conceptual frameworks, identifies research gaps, and integrates scattered findings into cohesive insights. Rather than serving as a routine academic requirement, literature reviews should function as analytical and interpretative processes that foster critical thinking. This paper highlights the importance of structured selection criteria, diversity in academic perspectives, and clear synthesis techniques to enhance credibility and depth. Challenges such as selection bias, resource limitations, and overreliance on secondary sources are addressed, along with strategies to overcome them. Ultimately, literature-based research emerges as a creative and active process that both preserves the intellectual heritage of the discipline and informs future scholarly directions.
