Abstract

This research aimed at finding out whether or not pictures can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. Pre-experimental design was applied in this research with one group pretest- posttest design. The population of this research was seventh grade students of SMP Makassar Raya, academic year 2017/2018 which consisted of 3 classes. This research used simple random sampling. The samples were 28 students of 7A. The research instrument used vocabulary test consisted of word form, word meaning, and word use as the research instrument. The result of this research showed that the application of pictures can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It was proved by the value of the t-test 31.09 which was greater than the value of t-table 1.70 the level of significance (p) = 0.05 and degree of freedom (n-1)=27.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe teacher performance, to describe the leadership of the principal, to describe efforts to optimize teacher performance through the leadership of the principal in one of the public high schools in South Tangerang City. This research uses a type of qualitative research with descriptive methods. Descriptive method is a type of research that describes and answers the problems of a phenomenon or event that is happening at this time. The focus of this research is to explain the optimization of teacher performance through the principal's leadership. In accordance with the nature and characteristics of qualitative research, this study produces qualitative data that reveals phenomena in the environment through the speech and behavior of people or study subjects. This research is not intended to examine variables so that the approach used in this technique uses interviews, observations, and document studies. Data analysis is changing the processed data into something that has meaning for researchers and readers of research reports. Teacher performance, which includes learning, implementation of guidance, and professional development, has shown good quality. Teachers have high awareness to carry out their duties and roles in school. In the learning aspect, each teacher develops and owns learning tools, such as annual programs, semester programs, syllabus, and lesson plans (RPP). In the implementation of learning, of course, it refers to the learning plans that have been made and learning assessments, of course, looks at the process and learning outcomes, as well as students' knowledge and skills. In the aspect of guiding abilities, each teacher guides students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah terakreditasi Sinta melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Kegiatan dilaksanakan secara online melalui aplikasi Zoom pada tanggal 1 Maret 2023. Peserta kegiatan berasal dari berbagai kalangan, termasuk mahasiswa, guru, dan dosen, dengan total 28 peserta. Abstrak ini menjelaskan latar belakang pentingnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah terakreditasi Sinta. Isu-isu terkait dengan masalah tersebut dan kajian penelitian atau kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat yang relevan dengan tema kegiatan juga diuraikan. Penelitian dan pengabdian sebelumnya yang telah dilakukan oleh pengabdi lain atau pengabdi sendiri memberikan dasar kuat untuk kegiatan ini. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan melibatkan penggunaan aplikasi Zoom sebagai platform online. Peserta diberikan materi dan pelatihan interaktif mengenai teknik penulisan yang benar, struktur karya tulis ilmiah, penggunaan referensi yang tepat, dan metode penelitian yang relevan. Kolaborasi dan diskusi antara peserta juga menjadi bagian penting dalam kegiatan ini. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kesadaran tentang penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah terakreditasi Sinta. Mereka dapat menerapkan keterampilan praktis yang diperoleh dalam menyusun karya tulis ilmiah berkualitas tinggi. Evaluasi kepuasan peserta juga menunjukkan hasil yang positif, menegaskan keberhasilan kegiatan dalam mencapai tujuan yang diharapkan. Dalam kesimpulan, kegiatan ini memberikan manfaat yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kesadaran peserta dalam penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah terakreditasi Sinta. Dampak positif dari kegiatan ini diharapkan akan berlanjut dalam jangka panjang, melalui peningkatan jumlah dan kualitas karya tulis ilmiah terakreditasi Sinta yang dihasilkan oleh peserta, serta pengembangan ekosistem pengetahuan yang lebih kuat dan inovatif.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of the home industry-based food and beverage business with raw materials and local products in improving the family economy and improving the standard of living for MSME actors in the Ganggawa Monument Court, Lakessi Village, Maritengngae District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. This research is a field research using the survey method, namely the data collection method which was carried out by interview techniques and direct observation in the field with a total of 22 informants from home-scale culinary entrepreneurs (home industry). The data obtained and then analyzed with a qualitative descriptive approach. The data analysis technique uses welfare indicators according to the Central Bureau of Statistics for 2022. The results show that the home industry-based food and beverage culinary business plays a positive role in improving the welfare of the local community. Aside from being a source of income, the home industry is also able to absorb existing resources, namely being able to absorb local labor and resources, and being able to increase human resources through home industry production activities.

Abstract

This study aimed to 1) describe the types of speech acts used by members of the English Students Association (ESA), and 2) explore the communication strategies applied within the association. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with 20 ESA members as the subjects. The data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The findings revealed that the members of ESA employed locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts in their daily communication. Common speech acts identified included warning, requesting, inviting, suggesting, promising, refusal, and commanding. Furthermore, communication strategies such as politeness—both positive and negative—were evident, with members often using direct and indirect forms of communication to achieve their goals. The results also indicated that ESA members were interested in and actively engaged in utilizing speech acts and communication strategies in their interactions. This was evidenced by the average questionnaire score of 82.30, categorized as high interest. The findings suggest that understanding and applying speech acts and communication strategies enhance the effectiveness of communication within the organization.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Pre-Reading Plan (PREP) strategy in enhancing reading comprehension among eighth-grade students at SMPN 3 Panca Rijang. Employing a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest method, the research involved 20 students and one English teacher as participants. Data collection included pretests, posttests, and questionnaires, analyzed through qualitative and quantitative methods. Results indicated significant improvements in students' reading comprehension post-implementation of the PREP strategy, with the percentage of students meeting the minimum completeness criteria increasing from 35% to 70%. Additionally, students exhibited higher engagement levels during learning activities, and the teacher's performance in classroom management improved. Many students expressed a positive interest in the PREP strategy. These findings support the conclusion that the PREP strategy effectively enhances reading comprehension among students. It is recommended that the PREP strategy be adopted more widely to foster improved reading skills in English language learning contexts, as it encourages students to activate prior knowledge and engage more deeply with the reading material. Overall, this research highlights the importance of interactive and student-centered teaching strategies in improving reading comprehension and fostering a positive learning environment.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilaksanakan di Desa Tasiwalie Kabupaten Pinrang yang dilakukan oleh Tim Dosen dan Mahasiswa Universitas Ichsan Sidenreng Rappang (Unisan Sidrap) dan Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). Fokus kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan nilai tambah produk jamur tiram putih melalui strategi diversifikasi produk. Pendekatan yang dilakukan melibatkan kelompok pengolah jamur tiram, dengan penekanan pada penentuan menu, penyediaan alat dan bahan, serta praktik pembuatan produk olahan yang menghadirkan beragam rasa. Dalam upaya mencapai tujuan tersebut, kegiatan dilakukan dengan pendekatan partisipatif, dengan melibatkan kegiatan kelompok pengolah jamur tiram pada setiap tahapan proses diversifikasi produk. Metode yang digunakan antara lain menentukan menu yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan selera pasar, menyiapkan peralatan dan bahan yang optimal, serta menerapkan praktik pembuatan produk olahan dengan variasi rasa yang menarik. Hasil dari kegiatan ini memberikan dampak positif, baik dalam meningkatkan nilai penjualan produk maupun menciptakan identitas produk yang kuat. Dengan menerapkan diversifikasi produk jamur tiram putih, artikel ini menguraikan langkah-langkah praktis yang dilakukan selama kegiatan pengabdian, serta membahas implikasi bisnis dan potensi yang dihasilkan dari strategi tersebut. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini menciptakan model pemberdayaan masyarakat berkelanjutan melalui inovasi pengolahan produk jamur tiram putih.

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah yang efektif dan berkelanjutan memerlukan kesadaran dan partisipasi aktif dari masyarakat. Edukasi sampah sebagai instrumen pendidikan lingkungan hidup mempunyai potensi besar dalam menciptakan perubahan positif perilaku masyarakat mengenai pengelolaan sampah. Pengabdian ini mengeksplorasi efektivitas program edukasi sampah di Desa Wanio dengan fokus pada peningkatan kesadaran dan partisipasi masyarakat. Program ini mencakup sesi penjangkauan pelatihan interaktif dan praktis serta kampanye lingkungan yang melibatkan berbagai kelompok masyarakat. Hasil dari pengabdian ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kesadaran masyarakat tentang dampak sampah terhadap lingkungan dan perubahan positif dalam perilaku pengelolaan sampah. Partisipasi aktif masyarakat dalam kegiatan pengelolaan sampah juga meningkat sehingga menciptakan lingkungan yang lebih bersih dan lestari di Desa Wanio. Temuan ini mendukung pentingnya pendekatan pendidikan dalam membentuk masyarakat berwawasan lingkungan dan membuka pintu bagi pengembangan program serupa di daerah lain.

Abstract

This service describes a community empowerment initiative through service to the oyster mushroom cultivation group in Tasiwalie Village. This empowerment approach focuses on the application of technology and innovation in oyster mushroom cultivation with the aim of increasing production, diversifying processed products, product branding and waste management. By integrating modern technology such as sensors, automatic irrigation systems, and temperature and humidity control techniques in kumbung, oyster mushroom production is increased significantly. In addition, through training and business assistance, the oyster mushroom food business group is provided with assistance and training regarding product diversification and effective branding strategies to increase the competitiveness of its products in local and regional markets. In addition, waste management from the cultivation process is converted into high-value resources such as charcoal briquettes. The result is an increase in the income of cultivation groups, improvement in community welfare, and the creation of a sustainable model of rural economic empowerment. This dedication makes a real contribution in strengthening local economic resilience while reducing environmental impacts, thereby creating a positive outlook towards sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract

The integration of digital literacy into educational practices has garnered significant attention in recent years, particularly in the context of language learning. Digital literacy refers to the ability to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate, and create information using various digital technologies. Given its growing importance, this study sought to evaluate the impact of digital literacy competence on improving English language skills through blended learning in the Independent Campus Program at Ichsan Sidenreng Rappang University. Employing a quantitative experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, the study gathered data through English language tests and questionnaires. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ English skills, with the pretest average score of 31.7 rising to 84.7 in the posttest. The Paired Sample t-test confirmed the statistical significance of this difference (p-value = 0.000). Additionally, the Pearson correlation test revealed a moderate positive relationship between digital literacy and English proficiency (r = 0.456), indicating that students with higher digital literacy competencies tended to perform better in English. These findings underscore the significant role that digital literacy plays in enhancing language skills, particularly when integrated with technology-based learning approaches. For future research, further studies could explore the long-term impact of digital literacy on language acquisition, the effectiveness of various digital tools in language learning, and how digital literacy interacts with other factors, such as motivation and learning styles, to influence language proficiency. Additionally, expanding the research to include diverse educational settings and student populations could provide a broader understanding of digital literacy’s role in language education.
