Abstract

This systematic literature review delves into the varied global motivations shaping English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning within diverse university contexts. Examining Tay Do University in Vietnam, the study illuminates a blend of intrinsic and extrinsic factors contributing to moderate motivation levels. Lithuania's emphasis on instrumental orientation among university students showcases the multifaceted nature of motivation. In Sweden, the research brings attention to challenges faced by newly arrived students, suggesting a need for policy adjustments to address these issues effectively. Indonesian graduates opt for informal education to enhance English proficiency, underlining the importance of diverse methods and success stories in the learning process. Cambodia's exploration reveals nuanced motivational orientations among university students. French higher education students exhibit diverse attitudes toward EFL learning, Japan displays a positive outlook, Saudi students lean towards extrinsic motivations, and Taiwan emphasizes the creation of motivated learning experiences. These findings collectively offer valuable insights for refining teaching strategies, making informed policy adjustments, and inspiring further research initiatives within the realm of EFL learning. Ultimately, this comprehensive review contributes to a deeper understanding of the multifaceted nature of motivations influencing EFL learners globally.

Abstract

This article points out the results of the study attempting to analyze the students speaking anxiety at students in one of SMKN 3 Sidrap. For the purpose of the topic, 28 fellow students were selected as the sample. Research method was quasi-experimental design with two way ANOVA. It was conducted for about four months. According to the results of speaking test, findings showed that using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) had positive meaningful effect on improving students’ speaking skill viewed from different speaking anxiety. To sum up, CLT is an effective method to teach students’ speaking skill viewed from different speaking anxiety.

Abstract

One of the oral traditions that has developed to date in the Selayar Islands Regency is battki. Battik-battik belongs to the categories of folk songs. Battik-battik comes from the word ambatti which means to squeeze. The musical instrument used is the harp, therefore it is called battik- battik. Battik-battik is sung by men and women alternately on stage without using text, meaning this song is sung spontaneously. In the batti-batti folk song, there are cultural values sung by the singer, namely the culture of tabe, sipakatu and si usingnga'. So that in this study the authors used multi-disciplines, namely anthropolinguistics with the aim of exploring these cultures hidden in the text or song lyrics that are sung. Anthropolinguistics is a study that discuss the relationship or connection between culture and language. in anthropolinguistics studies examiners more how languages is used US a tools for social action. This research method uses qualitative research methods to explain a phenomenon in depth and is carried out by collecting data as deeply as possible.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative descriptive study study. This study investigated factors causing the low learning results of Students of SMKN 3 Tana Toraja, in English Class. This study can be the reference for English lecturers in determining the best strategy in teaching English to Automotive Engineering students. The respondents were the students who got bad scores in English class. To find out the internal and external factors causing the low learning results of the students, they were given a questionnaire. The results show that the intelligence factor, the difficulty of getting friends to practice English, the explanation of theEnglish lecturer, and the laziness to study can be some factors causing the low learning result of some SMKN 3 Tana Toraja students in English class. Meanwhile, the internal and the external factors like physical health, attention, interest, motivation to learn English, teaching methods, lessons, the relationship with the lecturer, learning tools, classroom condition, the respondents' learning methods both in class and outside class are not the cause of the low learning results of the respondents in English class.

Abstract

Advances in technology have made it easy for all writers to check their academic writing using automated writing assessment programs. However, using this program can have both advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, its advantages and disadvantages should be considered. To address this need, this study aimed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the Grammarly program as an automated writing assessment program for assessing academic writing. Using narrative research to explore the experiences of three Indonesian graduate students through interviews and documents, the program offers helpful color-coded feedback with explanations and examples, easy account access, rapid assessment speed, and It was indicated that they provide free services for academic evaluation. write. However, we have identified several concerns when using this program, including: Weaknesses of the program included some misleading feedback, weaknesses in English type recognition and reference lists, and lack of context and content assessment. Further research is needed on the effectiveness of the feedback provided by Grammarly in improving the quality of students' writing.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the improvement of the students' vocabulary in term of Adjective and Verbs through Listening and Drilling method at The First Year In Class VII.A Students of SMP Negeri 1 Bua Kabupaten Luwu. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research that consisted of two cycles. One cycle consisted of four meetings, it means that there were eight meetings for two cycles. This classroom action research was done at The First Year In Class VII.A students of SMP Negeri 1 Bua Kabupaten Luwu, the sample of the research consisted of 28 students. The instrument were vocabulary test, it was used to measure the students achievement in using Adjective and Verb. The findings of the research were the students' vocabulary achievement in cycle 1, the data obtain from the test were analyzed into percentages. Mean score of Adjective in cycle I was 54.78 and verb was 57.23, meanwhile mean score of Adjective in cycle Il were 75.86 and verb 71.76. The students' participation in learing vocabulary through listening and drilling method in the first meeting of cycle 1 was 32.89% then it became 63.15% in fourth meeting of cycle II. The result of data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between cycle I and cycle Il. Based on findings, it was concluded that Teaching Vocabulary through Listening and Drilling method was able to improve the students' achievement in using Adjectives and Verbs.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not there is a correlation between reading achievement and writing achievement. The sample of this research was taken by using purposive sampling with total 36 students of the bilingual class in eighth grade students of SMP Negeri Satap 4 Kajuara.Kab.Bone in the academic year 2022/2023. The data were obtained by using reading comprehension test and writing test. To verify the hypotheses, the primary data were analyzed by using correlation and regression analyses by means of Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version 12.00 computer program. Based on the data analysis, the correlation coefficient (rxy) was 0.614 at the significance level p< 0.05 in two tailed. Since the value of r- obtained was higher than the critical value of r-table (0.614 >0.3291), the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and consequently, the research hypothesis (H1) was accepted. This shows a significant correlation between the reading Achievement and the writing Achievement to the eighth graders of bilingual class at SMP Negeri Satap 4 Kajuara.Kab.Bone. Based on the regression analysis, it was found that students’ reading achievement determined or influenced 37.7 % of their writing achievement and the rest (62.3 %) was defined by other factors. It means that there was a significant influence of reading achievement on the students’ writing achievement.

Abstract

Improving English Listening Skills Through Audio-Visual for Class VII Students of UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Gilireng. Academic Year 2021/2022.This research was carried out at the UPTD of SMP Negeri 1 Gilireng in Class VII where the students' ability to listen to English was quite low. The purpose of writing this classroom action research is to find out whether the Audio-Visual learning model can increase student activity and learning achievement. The data collection methods are observation and learning achievement tests. The data analysis method is descriptive for both qualitative data and quantitative data. The results obtained from this research are that Audio-Visual can improve activities and student learning achievements. This is evident from the results obtained in Cycle I which was 6.3 for learning achievement. From Cycle I to Cycle II it rose to 7.9 for learning achievement. The conclusion obtained from this research is that the Audio-Visual learning model can improve learning achievement.

Abstract

A lecturer or teacher is required to be very creative in order to make students motivated to learn. This study aims to explain the creative teaching that can be applied in literature classes in the English Education Department of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. Moreover, this study also will explore the improvement of students’ motivation by implementing creative teaching in literature classes of English Education Department of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. This research is a descriptive study. Observation is the initial activity that will be carried out in this study, and the data from this study were collected through a process of observation to find out its usefulness to students’ motivation for creative teaching in literature classes. The expected outcome of this research is that creative teaching can be applied well in the literature class at the English Education Department of UAD. Also, the positive benefits that can be learned from the implementation of creative teaching are the availability of materials in the form of podcasts and various activities in the teaching of literature class such as a gallery walk, creative writing, jigsaw, group discussions, role play, and others. Students’ motivation is pretty good for the implementation of these activities.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know whether there is any correlation between memory and uses of the words meanings and usages. There are there research problems were examined. It is about the total words meanings and usages remembered by the students, the uses of the words meanings and usages in the four language skills, and the correlation between memory and uses of the words meanings and usages. This research conducted at SMP N 2 Yogyakarta and the sample used was students in the seven grade consisted of 62 students. The data were collected using test and questionnaire. The result of test shows that the highest total number of words meanings and usages remembered by the students is 115 words (90%) from the total number of words is 128 words while the lowest total number of words meanings and usages remembered by the students is 64 words (50%). The most word class remembered by students in terms of word meanings and usages is noun that is 75% and word class adverb is 42% remembered by the students. The result of questionnaire shows that students used words meanings and usages frequently in reading. In reading, 62 students (100%) used words meanings and usages in terms of word class noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. The result of data analysis shows that there is a significant correlation between memory and uses of words meanings and usages. It could be seen by looking at the result of Point- Biserial Correlation coefficient r that is 0.564.
