Abstract

The prevalence of non-communicable degenerative diseases in Indonesia continues to rise, particularly affecting adolescents and productive age populations due to unhealthy lifestyle patterns and free radical exposure. Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.), a locally abundant resource often regarded merely as agricultural by-product, contain significant bioactive compounds including polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and terpenoids demonstrating potent antioxidant properties with IC50 values of 47.99 ppm. This study employs a qualitative descriptive literature review approach, analyzing 28 scientific publications spanning 2018-2025 sourced from Google Scholar and PubMed databases to examine the potential of purple sweet potato leaves as effervescent tablet raw material for degenerative disease prevention. Findings reveal that bioactive constituents effectively neutralize free radicals, prevent lipid peroxidation, and protect cellular structures from oxidative damage linked to diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disorders. The effervescent tablet formulation provides strategic advantages including enhanced solubility, accelerated absorption rates due to elimination of disintegration processes, pleasant carbonation sensation masking unpleasant active ingredient taste, and superior gastrointestinal tolerance. This innovation offers promising prospects for degenerative disease prevention through local food resource utilization, though experimental validation regarding optimal formulation, effective dosage determination, and clinical efficacy assessment remains necessary for practical implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of weed density and dominance on the physiological performance of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.). The methodology applied in this research is a literature review that synthesizes data from various previous studies regarding vegetation dynamics and biotic competition within oil palm plantations. The consolidated data indicates that weed density is significantly influenced by cultivation methods, such as the application of Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) which can increase humidity, as well as plant age, which affects light intensity at the ground level. These environmental changes lead to a shift in weed dominance from grasses to broadleaf plants or ferns. A high Summed Dominance Ratio (SDR) indicates intense competition, resulting in prolonged physiological stress for the primary crop. The presence of weeds exerts "double pressure" through root competition for nutrients (particularly nitrogen) and water, as well as spatial competition above ground. Consequently, the photosynthetic rate experiences a significant decline due to stomatal closure as an adaptive reaction to water deficit. Control measures using herbicides such as paraquat dichloride, diuron, and glyphosate at appropriate dosages have proven effective in reducing weed density without inducing phytotoxic effects on the plants. Ultimately, efficient weed management is vital to maintain photosynthetic efficiency, optimize the net assimilation rate, and ensure that biomass accumulation and fresh fruit bunch production are not hindered by adverse vegetation competition.

Abstract

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a strategic food commodity that has the potential as an alternative carbohydrate source and functional food. However, its productivity is still hampered by attacks by plant pests (OPT), one of which is the leaf-folding pest (Brachmia convolvuli). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of two types of mulch on the population and intensity of leaf-folding pest attacks on purple sweet potato plants. The research method used is experimental. The experimental design is (RAK) Randomized Block Design, with 3 treatment. The treatment are N0 control (no treatment), N1 black silver plastic mulch and N2 straw mulch, each experimental unit was repeated 9 times and obtained 27 treatment units. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of 5% followed by the Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at the same level. The result showed that the type of mulch significantly affected the pest population and attack intensity. Straw mulch gave significant results, with a population of 9,96 individuals and an attack intensity of 19.09%. So it is more effective in suppressing the development and attack of leaf folding pests compared to other treatments.

Abstract

The palm oil processing industry faces increasing demands for efficiency, product quality, and sustainability in line with technological advancements. This study aims to examine recent technological developments in the palm oil processing industry and critically analyze their impacts on factory efficiency and sustainability. A qualitative descriptive literature review method was employed through the collection, selection, classification, and analysis of relevant scientific publications from the last ten years. The findings indicate that technologies such as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)-based automation, Internet of Things (IoT), biomass and biogas utilization, process equipment modernization, and digitalization through Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) contribute to improved production efficiency, reduced oil losses, energy savings, and enhanced Crude Palm Oil (CPO) quality. However, the implementation of these technologies remains constrained by limited investment, inadequate human resource competencies, poor system integration, and weak managerial commitment. The study concludes that the success of modernization in the palm oil industry depends not only on technological sophistication but also on organizational readiness to integrate technology, human resources, and management practices in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Nitrogen is an essential macronutrient that plays a crucial role in supporting plant growth and development. This nutrient is generally absorbed by plants in the form of ammonium (NH₄⁺) and nitrate (NO₃⁻) ions. The effectiveness of nitrogen fertilization is strongly influenced by the type of fertilizer and the applied dosage. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different nitrogen fertilizer sources and application rates on the growth and yield of spinach (Amaranthus viridis) cultivated in polybags. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of Nusa Nipa University from February to March 2026 using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The first factor consisted of two nitrogen sources, namely urea and calcium ammonium nitrate, while the second factor consisted of five nitrogen application rates: 0X, ¼X, ½X, ¾X, and X (recommended dose). The results showed that different nitrogen sources did not significantly affect plant height, leaf number, fresh weight, dry weight, or plant water content. In contrast, increasing nitrogen rates significantly affected plant height at 2 weeks after planting (WAP) and plant dry weight. The interaction between nitrogen source and application rate exhibited a linear response for plant height at 3 WAP and fresh weight.

Abstract

The study examines the vertical distribution of soil chemical properties under clove (Syzygium aromaticum), nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), and coconut (Cocos nucifera) stands in Togafo Village, West Ternate District. It aims to analyze how different plantation vegetation types affect soil fertility and nutrient stratification across soil depths. A survey method was used by collecting soil samples from three plantation stands at two depth intervals, 0–30 cm and 30–60 cm. The analyzed soil parameters included pH, organic carbon, total nitrogen, carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio, and available phosphorus. Data were analyzed descriptively and supported by the Soil Stratification Ratio (SSR). The results showed that soil pH ranged from 6.15 to 6.68, indicating slightly acidic to neutral conditions. Organic carbon ranged from 1.57% to 2.73%, total nitrogen from 0.09% to 0.22%, C/N ratio from 9 to 22, and available phosphorus from 10.00 to 18.75 ppm. Higher organic carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus contents were found in the 0–30 cm layer than in the 30–60 cm layer. Clove stands showed the highest surface nutrient accumulation. These findings indicate that vegetation type influences soil nutrient stratification, with clove plantations better maintaining soil fertility.

Abstract

Fruit fly infestation (Bactrocera spp.) is one of the biggest problems in Kristal guava cultivation, as it can reduce fruit quality and yield. The aim of this study was to determine the infestation severity of Kristal guava plants in the Gerung district of West Lombok. The survey was conducted in April - May 2026 using an indirect observation method. Fruit flies were captured in yellow, red, green, blue, and white sticky traps placed on 20 experimental plants in four observation blocks. The fruit fly population and the degree of fruit damage were monitored for five weeks. Infestation severity data were analyzed using a scoring system based on the extent of fruit damage. The results showed that the highest number of fruit fly catches was recorded in the first week (525 individuals), while the lowest number was recorded in the fourth week (208 individuals). The infestation severity ranged from 25.86% to 42.79% and was classified as moderate. The high intensity of the attacks in the field correlated positively with the fruit fly population on crystal guavas.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of packaging methods on the quality of guava fruit (Psidium guajava L.) during low-temperature storage. The research was conducted at the Horticulture Laboratory of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Malaysia, from July to August 2025. The research method used was an experimental approach with five packaging treatments, namely T1 (PP650 without MAP), T2 (PP650 + MAP PP), T3 (PP650 + MAP PE), T4 (vacuum packaging PP), and T5 (450-micron MAP seal). The observed parameters included fruit weight, pH, malic acid content, tartaric acid content, and fruit size on day 0, day 4, day 8, and day 12 of storage. The results showed that packaging methods affected the quality of guava fruit during low-temperature storage. The treatment without MAP experienced a faster decline in quality, indicated by an increase in pH, a decrease in organic acid content, and fruit weight loss. In contrast, MAP and vacuum packaging treatments were able to maintain fruit weight, acid content, and fruit size better until the 12th day of storage. Treatment T2 (PP650 + MAP PP) and T3 (PP650 + MAP PE) showed the best results in maintaining fruit quality compared to the other treatments. Based on the results of this study, the use of MAP and vacuum packaging methods is recommended for guava storage because they can slow down quality deterioration and extend the shelf life of the fruit, which aligns with recent parameters of low-temperature fruit handling (Chen et al., 2024; Etemadipoor et al., 2020; Fan et al., 2022).

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) production in Cipetir Village, Kadudampit District, Sukabumi Regency. A quantitative research method with a survey approach was employed. The sampling technique used purposive sampling involving 30 cayenne pepper farmers who were actively engaged in farming activities. The data consisted of primary data obtained through interviews and questionnaires, as well as secondary data collected from literature reviews and other supporting sources. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the assistance of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), supported by F-tests, t-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results showed that, simultaneously, seed use, fertilizer use, and land area had a significant effect on cayenne pepper production, with an F-value of 69.173 and a significance level of less than 0.001. Partially, land area had a positive and significant effect on cayenne pepper production, with a regression coefficient of 0.507 and a significance value of less than 0.001. Meanwhile, seed use and fertilizer use did not have a significant effect on cayenne pepper production. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.889 indicates that 88.9% of the variation in cayenne pepper production can be explained by the three independent variables, while the remaining 11.1% is influenced by other factors outside the research model. Therefore, land area was identified as the most dominant factor affecting cayenne pepper production in Cipetir Village, Kadudampit District, Sukabumi Regency.
