Social Science Education plays a strategic role in fostering multicultural values among students within Indonesia’s plural society. Values such as tolerance, respect for differences, social justice, and the ability to understand issues from multiple perspectives need to be cultivated from an early stage so that students are able to live harmoniously in diversity. This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the four multicultural approaches proposed by James A. Banks—Contribution Approach, Additive Approach, Transformation Approach, and Social Action Approach—in Social Science Education at SMP Negeri 2 Kotagajah, as well as to identify the supporting factors and challenges in their implementation. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research participants included Social Science teachers, the principal or vice principal, and students from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. The findings show that Social Science teachers have implemented multicultural approaches gradually and integratively in the learning process through the inclusion of local figures and cultural symbols, the use of additional media and learning resources, multiperspective discussions, and social activities that reflect cultural diversity. Supporting factors include adequate facilities and infrastructure, school programs oriented toward diversity, and collaboration between the school, parents, and the community, while the main challenge lies in the limited capacity of some senior teachers in utilizing learning technology.

This study examines the role of positive discipline as an agent of school culture transformation in Indonesian secondary education through a case study at SMA Negeri 2 Minas, Riau. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive sociological design, the research explores patterns of social interaction, value internalization, and cultural change within the school community. Data were gathered through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and the principal, as well as document analysis, and were analyzed thematically. The findings show that positive discipline functions not merely as a behavioral control system but as a transformative mechanism that strengthens character, reinforces collective responsibility, and cultivates a reflective school culture. Teachers shift their roles from controllers to facilitators of awareness and dialogue, while students engage actively in self-assessment and collaborative rule-making. These practices encourage empathy, inclusivity, and social cohesion, enhancing the school’s humanistic climate. The study contributes to sociological perspectives on education by framing positive discipline as a mechanism of cultural reconstruction within learning institutions, aligning with the goals of human-centered and transformative education in the 21st century.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the motives of students at SMAN 4 Padang in choosing or determining their extracurricular activities in traditional martial arts from the perspective of the philosophy of science, which consists of ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions. In this study, the method used is a qualitative approach, namely through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study show that students' motives have many aspects, consisting of intrinsic motives, namely the desire to preserve local culture, build identity, and create self-discipline. In addition, there are also extrinsic motives, namely encouragement from the social environment and appreciation of local cultural values. From a philosophical perspective, ontologically, traditional silat can be interpreted by students as a cultural essence and identity. Epistemologically, traditional silat is a learning process obtained through direct experience and reflection on values acquired in social interactions. Axiologically, traditional silat activities deepen moral values, solidarity, and appreciation for local culture. This study confirms that the philosophy of science has a very close relationship with understanding a phenomenon of education based on cultural values. Traditional silat can not only shape students' physical abilities, but also shape their awareness of knowledge, values, and the meaning of humanity in the context of social science education.

This study aimed to examine the influence of Chromebook use on the learning creativity of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Minas. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The population consisted of 72 students, with 37 students selected using purposive sampling based on active Chromebook usage. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed with Spearman’s correlation using JASP software due to non-normal distribution. The result showed a positive and significant correlation (ρ = 0,668; p < 0,001), indicating that Chromebook use contributed 44,6% to the variation in students’ learning creativity. The development of education in the digital era requires learning innovations that focus not solely on cognitive aspects but also on character building and strengthening 21st-century competencies, including leadership skills. In education, leadership is not only defined as the ability to direct a group but also reflects responsibility, communication skills, the ability to make appropriate choices, and social sensitivity in establishing relationships with others. This article aims to analyze the literature on how the combination of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can contribute to strengthening students' leadership attitudes in the context of social relationships. The method used is a literature study with a content analysis approach to various relevant scientific references. The results of the review indicate that PjBL creates a collaborative and contextual learning situation, allowing students to gain experience in task division, managing differences of opinion, and collective responsibility. Meanwhile, the application of AI supports learning differentiation, data-driven reflection, monitoring group member participation, and flexible problem-solving simulations. The combination of these two approaches produces a more dynamic learning environment, involving active participation, and aligned with the individual needs of students. Therefore, the integration of PjBL and AI has the potential to be an alternative innovative learning strategy to strengthen leadership attitudes in the dynamics of social relations, especially in sociology learning.

The expansion of digital technologies in higher education has led to the emergence of datafication — the process by which educational practices and human behaviors are transformed into quantifiable data. While datafication promises efficiency, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making, it also introduces critical ethical and sociological challenges related to surveillance, power, and inequality. This literature-based study explores educational datafication through the theoretical perspectives of Michel Foucault’s disciplinary power, Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of capital and social reproduction, and Neil Selwyn’s critique of digital education. By synthesizing studies published between 2018 and 2025, this research highlights how datafication has reshaped academic autonomy, intensified digital surveillance, and reproduced social hierarchies in higher education. The paper argues that understanding datafication as a sociological phenomenon not merely a technological innovation is essential for developing critical digital ethics and equitable governance in academia.
