Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a common health problem caused by menstruation, inadequate iron intake, and low adherence to iron supplementation consumption. One effort to improve iron absorption is by combining iron supplementation with lemon juice containing vitamin C. This community service activity aimed to help improve hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls through the combination of iron supplementation and lemon juice administration. The methods included health education, hemoglobin level examination, administration of iron tablets combined with lemon juice, and consumption assistance involving 15 adolescent girls in Bandar Surabaya Village, Bandarjaya District, Central Lampung in 2025. Evaluation was carried out by measuring hemoglobin levels before and after the intervention during the activity. The results showed that the average hemoglobin level increased from 10.8 g/dL before the intervention to 12.4 g/dL after the administration of iron tablets combined with lemon juice. A total of 80.0% of participants experienced increased hemoglobin levels after the intervention. This activity demonstrates that the combination of iron supplementation and lemon juice can help improve hemoglobin levels and support anemia prevention efforts among adolescent girls

Abstract

Stunting remains one of the chronic nutritional problems among toddlers that requires preventive efforts through the utilization of highly nutritious local food sources. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) are a local food rich in protein, iron, calcium, vitamins, and antioxidants, making them potentially beneficial in supporting the nutritional needs of toddlers. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers with toddlers through local food innovations based on moringa leaves in the form of moringa nuggets and moringa pudding as an effort to prevent stunting among toddlers in Tonasa Village, Gowa Regency. The activity methods included coordination with village authorities and health cadres, participant identification, implementation of a knowledge pre-test, education regarding stunting and the benefits of moringa leaves, demonstrations and training on moringa-based food processing, distribution of recipe leaflets, implementation of a post-test, and evaluation of the application of moringa-based foods within toddlers’ families. A total of 15 participants were involved in the activity, comprising 10 mothers of toddlers and 5 Posyandu cadres. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge, where the proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 27% during the pre-test to 87% during the post-test. Participants’ skills in processing moringa leaves into nutritious food also improved, from 20% to 80% in the good category. In addition, most participants stated that their toddlers liked the moringa nugget and moringa pudding products provided during the training and had started to apply them as additional family meals. This local food innovation based on moringa leaves was considered effective, economical, easy to implement, and has the potential to support sustainable stunting prevention efforts among toddlers at the community level.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the most common health problems affecting pregnant women and may lead to adverse maternal and fetal outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, and increased maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. One of the government's strategies to prevent anemia is the provision of Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets; however, adherence to IFA tablet consumption among pregnant women remains low. This community service program aimed to improve adherence to IFA tablet consumption and increase hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with anemia through a mentoring program. The intervention was conducted through home visits over a two-week period, including pre- and post-intervention hemoglobin assessment, education on anemia and the importance of IFA supplementation, nutritional counseling, and monitoring of IFA tablet consumption using an adherence checklist. The program involved seven pregnant women diagnosed with anemia in Lembar Selatan Village, West Lombok Regency. The results showed that six of the seven participants experienced an increase in hemoglobin levels after the mentoring program, while one participant showed a decrease due to family-related problems that affected adherence to IFA tablet consumption and adequate nutritional intake. The mentoring program also improved participants' understanding of anemia and the importance of regular IFA tablet consumption. In conclusion, home-based mentoring through education, counseling, and adherence monitoring was effective in improving hemoglobin levels among most pregnant women with anemia. Family involvement was identified as an important supporting factor for the success of the intervention..
