Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest bauxite producers, which since 2023 has implemented a policy prohibiting the export of raw ore as part of its national mineral downstreaming strategy. This policy aims to increase domestic added value, strengthen economic sovereignty, and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 on decent work and inclusive economic growth. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Indonesia's bauxite downstreaming policy from the perspective of international political economy and sustainable development diplomacy, highlighting economic, social, and institutional dimensions. The method used is a qualitative approach through policy analysis, secondary data from BPS, ESDM, and international scientific publications. The results show that the national alumina refining capacity increased from 1.4 million tons in 2021 to ±5.3 million tons in 2024, accompanied by an expansion of foreign investment, mainly from China. However, this increase in capacity has not been fully accompanied by an improvement in job quality, as 61% of workers in this sector are still on contract with limited skills upgrading. In addition, institutional inequality and the dominance of foreign investors indicate the continued weakness of national control in the global alumina value chain. In conclusion, the downstreaming of Indonesian bauxite has contributed to economic growth and sustainable industrial diplomacy, but its success depends on institutional reform, strengthening national technology, and integrating social aspects so that the transition from extraction to inclusive industrialization can truly be realized in a fair and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Indonesia's foreign policy has always been based on the principle of "freedom and activity," a normative position that emphasizes non-alignment and participation in building a just and peaceful world order. However, in practice, this principle faces dynamic challenges posed by the complexities of global geopolitics, such as great power rivalry, changes in the international economic order, and multidimensional crises like the pandemic and climate change. This article aims to examine how Indonesia formulates and implements its foreign policy to safeguard national interests, from economic, political, and security perspectives, amidst rapid and uncertain geopolitical change. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and foreign policy analysis, this article finds that Indonesia tends to implement an adaptive-pragmatic strategy that remains grounded in the constitution but is also flexible in responding to global conditions. The principle of "freedom and activity" is not stagnant, but rather undergoes strategic interpretation according to the context of the times and the desired national interests. This study confirms that the success of Indonesian foreign policy depends heavily on its diplomatic ability to maintain a balance between policy autonomy and international engagement

Abstract

This study analyzes the driving factors of the tourism sector in the top 17 global destinations based on International Tourism Highlights from 2000 to 2023. Using the GMM (Generalized Method of Moments) panel data method, this study specifically examines the role of financial development and institutional quality in developing the tourism sector. Our findings indicate that financial development has a positive and significant impact on the tourism sector in the short and long term. These results underscore that an efficient financial system and broad access to capital are important foundations for investment in the tourism sector. Conversely, the impact of institutional quality was positive but not consistently significant, implying that its role may be more facilitative or take longer to manifest. This study concludes that strengthening the financial system should be a key policy priority for governments promoting sustainable tourism. These findings make an important contribution to the tourism literature by providing comprehensive empirical evidence on the importance of these structural factors in shaping the global tourism landscape.

Abstract

In the digital era, leaders are required to be able to integrate technology in the management and operations of educational institutions. According to Khan & khan (2021) digital leadership not only focuses on the use of technology but also how technology can improve the performance of employees and the organisation as a whole based on bibliometric analysis using the VOSviewer application shows that 315 relevant articles were obtained which accounted for 60% of the total articles found that network visualisation that has discussed many research linkages of digital leadership with technology while leadership ledearship with wrok engagement and performance is still small. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of digital leadership on academic staff performance at HKBP Nommesen University and to investigate how work engagement can mediate the relationship. The research question posed was: ‘is it suspected that digital leadership has a significant effect on work engagement directly’, “is it suspected that digital leadership has a significant effect on employee performance directly”, “is it suspected that work engagement has a significant effect on employee performance through work engagement?”. Based on the results of the discussion, it can be concluded that, based on calculations using SmartPLS 4.0 software, there is a significant effect of digital leadership on improving employee performance with path coefficient (0.307) and p-value (0.002 <0.05) with a structural level of influence at a low level (F square = 0.084). There is a significant effect of digital leadership on increasing Wrok Engagement with path coefficient (0.507) and p-value (0.000 < 0.05) with structural influence at moderate level. there is no significant effect of Wrok engagement on improving employee performance with path coefficient (0.149) and p-value (0.115 > 0.05). because there is no significant effect of digital leadership on performance through Wrok engagement as an intervening variable with path coefficient (0.076) and p-value (0.120 > 0.05)

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Islamic family law within Indonesia's national legal framework through the lens of Pancasila's justice values in religious court administration. As Indonesia's largest judicial institution handling Islamic family matters, religious courts face significant challenges in harmonizing Islamic legal principles with the constitutional foundation of Pancasila. Employing a quantitative research methodology, this study surveyed 284 stakeholders including religious court judges, legal practitioners, policymakers, and legal scholars across multiple jurisdictions to assess perceptions of Pancasila justice value implementation, institutional effectiveness, and integration challenges. Data were collected through structured questionnaires measuring five dimensions: understanding of Pancasila justice values, integration effectiveness, administrative performance, stakeholder satisfaction, and systemic challenges. Statistical analyses including descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and correlation analyses revealed significant findings. Results indicate that 78.5% of respondents demonstrate high understanding of Pancasila values, yet only 64.2% perceive effective integration in court practices. Religious courts achieved a 96.45% case clearance rate in 2023, processing 603,512 cases, though substantial challenges persist in harmonizing religious and state law (71.8% agreement). The study concludes that while structural frameworks exist for integration, substantive implementation requires enhanced judicial capacity, clearer legislative guidelines, and stronger institutional mechanisms to realize Pancasila's justice principles within Islamic family law adjudication

Abstract

Community empowerment is crucial for the sustainability of a village, especially a tourism village. The community is the core of development, ensuring that a tourism village is not merely a temporary viral phenomenon but can thrive long-term by involving the community as the primary foundation, rather than focusing on outsiders. This ensures that the community is not colonized within its own village and can generate its own income. The goal of developing tourism villages through the community is essentially to ensure the economic sustainability of the tourism village itself. From the community, to the community, and for the community. The purpose of this research is to understand community empowerment (enabling, empowering, protecting) or providing, empowering, and protecting. This research was conducted in Palaes Tourism Village, West Likupang District. The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method, namely data in the form of a collection of words, images, videos, recordings, and not numbers. The research instruments were the Palaes village government (Old Law, Old Law Secretary, Director of Bumdes) and the community (members of MSMEs, ordinary people) and also tourists as supporting factors. The research was conducted for 6 months, from May 2023 to December 2023. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study conclude that enabling (providing) the government successfully provides support in various ways for the advancement of tourist villages, so that the community can recognize the potential of the village and the potential of human resources (HR) itself, namely by building cooperation with various parties to achieve the necessary facilities. Empowering (empowering), the government empowers the community through Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDES), namely by becoming members of MSMEs, handicrafts, and becoming homestay managers. According to the interview results, only 30% of the community is directly involved in empowerment, the rest is still being worked on by the government. Protecting (protecting), the government's way of protecting the Palaes tourist village system is twofold: external protection, namely by being very selective in choosing future investors. Do not let investors be more important than the community itself, especially if it is colonized in the village itself. Next, internal protection, namely by always maintaining good relations with the Palaes tourist village community, both those directly involved and those who have not been involved/have not yet involved themselves in the development of the tourist village. The government considers maintaining harmony between the government and the community and between communities is paramount to prevent conflicts that break the system. In addition, the government also protects the system by providing firmness and sanctions to people who violate the rules.

Abstract

As Tempo Magazine’s print circulation declined and audiences increasingly turned to digital platforms, the company explored new formats for delivering journalism. One such innovation is the Bocor Alus Politik podcast, which offers more dynamic and accessible content. Ideally, media organizations should continue to serve as watchdogs while also seeks alternative revenue models to reduce dependence on advertising. This study focus on how the Bocor Alus Politik podcast leverages market forces to support Tempo’s business growth and address existing gaps in the literature. Adopting a qualitative method within a constructivist paradigm, the research draws on observations, analysis of YouTube content, and interviews with Tempo’s senior management and the main podcast host. Findings suggest that the podcast has significantly broadened Tempo’s reach—especially to regions previously unreachable by the print edition—and has contributed to growth in digital subscriptions and public engagement through stock ownership, particularly among millennials. Bocor Alus Politik represents Tempo’s strategic response to shifts in media consumption habits. Future studies on media economics should focus on geographic markets and the factors that shape the podcasting sector to gain a deeper understanding of these developments.
