Abstract

This study investigates the transformation of political communication in Indonesia’s 2024 Presidential Election through Gerindra’s viral ‘Gemoy’ campaign, which employed emotionally resonant digital content to construct a relatable image of candidate Prabowo Subianto. Grounded in the frameworks of Viral Democracy Syndrome, Normalization and Illusion of Participation, and Fragmented Public Sphere theory, the research examines how algorithmic curation, affective aesthetics, and symbolic engagement contribute to democratic disillusionment and discursive fragmentation. Using a positivist-quantitative approach, data were collected via structured questionnaires from 200 purposively selected respondents Indonesian voters exposed to ‘Gemoy’ content. Statistical analyses, including regression and ANOVA, reveal three key findings. First, audience expectations for digital democracy significantly predict digital normalization experiences (R² = .438), indicating an “expectation-disillusionment paradox” wherein higher democratic hopes lead to increased recognition of symbolic manipulation. Second, a dual-pathway effect shows that while digital democracy initially reduces perceived fragmentation, normalization experiences strongly increase it (R² = .499), highlighting how algorithmic logic fosters echo chambers, polarization, and discourse trivialization. Third, initial exposure modality to ‘Gemoy’ content explains 87.5% of the variance in digital democracy expectations, validating the “platform determinism” hypothesis and illustrating how algorithmic architectures precondition political perceptions. The study concludes that while the ‘Gemoy’ strategy achieved short-term viral success, it also triggered long-term democratic deficits by programming audience consciousness and degrading deliberative engagement. This research contributes to the digital political communication literature by demonstrating the psychological and structural consequences of symbolic campaigns in Southeast Asia. It recommends policy interventions on algorithmic transparency, critical digital literacy beyond fact-checking, and the creation of deliberative digital spaces. Future research should explore longitudinal effects of viral political strategies and develop interdisciplinary models of technologically mediated political cognition.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a key driver of economic and labor market restructuring in Indonesia, including in remote areas that have long faced limited access to infrastructure and economic opportunities. This study aims to examine the impact of digital transformation on changes in work patterns and the welfare of human resources in remote regions of Indonesia in 2025. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with socio-economic analysis, utilizing secondary data obtained from government reports, international institutions, and relevant academic literature. The findings indicate that digital transformation has significantly shifted work patterns from traditional sectors toward digital-based employment and digital entrepreneurship, enabling greater flexibility and broader market access for communities in remote areas. Furthermore, digital transformation contributes to improvements in human resource welfare through increased income opportunities, economic efficiency, and enhanced access to education, information, and public services. However, the benefits of digital transformation are not evenly distributed due to disparities in digital infrastructure, limited digital literacy, and employment insecurity associated with platform-based work. Therefore, comprehensive and inclusive policy interventions are required to ensure that digital transformation supports equitable and sustainable economic development in Indonesia’s remote regions

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology (ICT) has driven the digital transformation of government, with e-government becoming the main instrument for improving bureaucratic efficiency, quality of public services, transparency, and community participation. In ASEAN countries, the implementation of e-government varies significantly, with Singapore leading the way, while Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos are still in the early stages of development. This study aims to analyze trends in scientific publications on e-government in Asean countries between 2014-2024 using a bibliometric approach. Data were obtained using Publish or Perish software from the Scopus database, then analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer. The results of the study show that 2020 was the peak of productivity with the highest number of publications and citations, especially related to the adoption of digital services during the Covid-19 pandemic. Indonesia and Thailand were recorded as the countries with the largest contribution to publications, while Singapore dominated in the implementation of e-government practices. The main focus of the study was still on the issues of digital transformation and information and communication technology, with the theme of innovation covering digital transformation. These findings confirm that the success of e-government is greatly influenced by the readiness of digital infrastructure, public literacy, human resource capacity, and government commitment. This study contributes by providing a comprehensive overview of the dynamics of e-government research in Asean countries.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of "Nobinobi Yomikaki" teaching materials developed as teaching materials for beginner level reading and writing courses towards the formation of 21st century skills in elementary level students. This is based on the needs for reading and writing teaching materials for first semester students, especially students who have never studied Japanese at all. Efforts to form 21st century skills are the focus as well as the basis for developing teaching materials because the demands of students to be able to survive and perform in the digital world, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, realize how important non-technical skills are as technical skills. The research method uses a mixed approach, quantitative and qualitative. The quantitative approach was used to measure reading speed, which is a basic literacy skill, while the qualitative approach was used to describe the results of observations of how the use of this teaching material on the formation of 21st century skills. The research population is the 2022 batch of students in the Japanese Language Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta, with a sample of 24 people, namely students who have never studied Japanese at all. Based on the observation, it is known that the structure of teaching materials supports the development of 21st century skills, namely the ability to think critically, creatively, communicatively, collaboratively, and succeeds in fostering positive character so that in this digital era students are ready to become part of global citizens or digital citizens. The teaching materials were developed based on research for approximately five years with the help of student contributors, alumni, and native speakers who live in Japan so that it can be said that the teaching materials "Nobinobi Yomikaki" are our original masterpiece with the consideration to form and enhance the 21st-century skills needed
