Abstract

In the face of the rapid expansion of prayer groups, the question arises as to the spiritual identity of this phenomenon. How far are they authentic or perhaps even heretical? This essay studied such a prayer group and aims to answer the question – authentic or heretical? - in the light of the official teaching of the Catholic Church concerning devotion and religious practices. Through such a study people should not be too quick to classify such groups as marginal or even un-Catholic, or conversely, too easily defend and justify their existence and practice. Prayer groups can offer “grace” but also potentially insert a “curse” into the life of their adherents. That is why church authority needs to be seriously concerned with such developments. If guided adequately, prayer groups can offer much to the development of the peoples’ faith. Conversely, if they are not correctly guided, prayer groups can potentially lead people up the wrong path. This empirical study helps us to evaluate such groups critically. Keywords: kelompok doa, hamba Tuhan, ilham, devosi, kesalehan umat, praktek penyembuhan, kesaksian, otoritas gerejani.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to explore the connection between spirituality and entrepreneurship. Spirituality is a part of theology, and it has recently become an important topic in the field of economy particularly in entrepreneurship. Spirituality strengthens the commitment of entrepreneurs to advance their businesses, to help them deal with stressful situations, to sharpen the vision of their businesses, and to motivate them in keeping their business values. Spirituality also supports the entrepreneurs in giving meaning to their work, to increase their happiness, and to make them more loyal to the organization. By having a strong spirituality, the entrepreneurs can run their businesses not only to gain profits – for themselves and others – but also to enable them to better serve the people. Keywords: spirituality, entrepreneurship, theology, business, driving force, capital

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the impact of Derrida's theory of deconstruction in relation to the application of contemporary Christian hermeneutics as well as an attempt at hermeneutical repositioning. The methodological approach used in this paper is descriptive qualitative with instruments of literature study, comparison and textual analysis. Concretely, critical analysis is carried out in stages of deconstruction theory, various phenomena of contemporary Christian hermeneutics, then presents the idea of Christian hermeneutics as a comparative model and discourse criticism. Meanwhile, the body of the writing is divided into three parts according to the analysis pattern. First, it specifically examines Derrida's theory of deconstruction. Second, it is an analysis of several forms of hermeneutic phenomena and discourse of Christian theology which are currently developing. Third, reviewing the Christian hermeneutic discourse from the evangelical perspective in an effort to reposition, criticize, and test discourse on the contemporary worldview. Through this research, distortions were found in hermeneutic studies and contemporary Christian discourse with several forms of deconstruction approaches. The three explicit patterns used are the hermeneutic application of binary negation to conservative theological discourse, the explicit emphasis on the textual eisegesis model and the post-structuralism approach to interpretation..Key words: Dekonstruksi, hermeneutika, oposisi biner, semantic, interpretasi biblis

Abstract

Half century after the anti-Communist Tragedy in Indonesia, including East Nusa Tenggara Province, one of the important questions need to be coped with is the impact of the Tragedy to the perpetrators. Some of those who took part in the arrest, persecution, and murder of the victims, are still alive. Because of the taboo of talking about the Tragedy and its impact among Indonesia society, they hide their feeling for nearly 50 years. They hold guilty/sin, shame, and hero feelings at the same time. Their narratives offer us rich theological themes and pastoral challenge. This paper tries to identify the theological themes arose in the narratives of some perpetrators.

Abstract

Corruption, understood as the misuse of entrusted power for private gain, has spread to every corner of Indonesia and become engrained in our daily lives. This is partly caused by the failure to think critically and the fear of judging representatively. It seems that members of our society have become thoughtless and are enslaved by human-made systems or rules. They blindly and uncritically follow the rules to the point where stealing money from those who really need it is considered perfectly normal. Here, corruption is an evil that is called banal. Therefore, following Arendt’s way of thinking, this article suggests the enhancement of critical thinking accompanied by an ability of judging representatively in the midst of the homogenization of the process of thinking as a way of reducing or even eradicating corruption.

Abstract

On the one hand, the First World War was the epitome of destruction, on the other hand the war spurred humanity to think deeply and be creative. An example of human creativity, a fruit of World War I, was Dialectic Theology, a theology that counter-balances and corrects Liberal Theology. It corrects the concept that identifies God with the human, such that instead of humanity talking about God, humanity deifies itself. Dialectic Theology invites theologians to return to the Sacred Scriptures to rediscover the true concept of the Divine. The God of Christians is the God who is absolutely “Other”, a concept impossible for human reason to grasp. God can only be experienced in faith. Nevertheless, Dialectic Theology is not without imperfections for its theological model excessively absolutizes God. This tendency results in Dialectic Theology falling into a similar fault as Liberal Theology. Liberal Theology falls into anthropomorphism, while Dialectic Theology falls into theocentrism. It also ignors other theological sources, namely tradition and context. Contextual theologies are a reaction to Dialectic Theology. Keywords: dialectic theology, liberal theology, otherness, justification, religion, war. Kata-kata kunci: teologi dialektis, teologi liberal, alteritas, pembenaran, agama, perang.

Abstract

Free-rider is one of the problems faced in many social movements. The problem is with those who benefit much from a social movement while never investing, or invest very little, into the movement; meanwhile those who invest and sacrifice much get almost nothing from it. This study is an attempt to explore whether or not there is a free rider phenomenon in the Reformation Movement in Indonesia. The findings of studies show that the Reformation Movement did not bring about significant change for most people in Indonesia except for the free riders: the politicians, top military officials, and big corporations (entrepreneurs) who were once part of the previous Suharto Regime. This study suggests that there should be change in the strategies and tactics of the movement to prevent a free rider problem and give more opportunities to people at the grassroots to benefit from the movement. Abstract

Identity, as what defines one’s self directly, touches on the question of human existence: how we identify ourselves and affirm our identity and group admist plural reality as with the nation of Indonesia. Indonesian citizens affirm their identity which is religious and at the same time national. As citizens, on the one hand, we give rational reasons when making political demands, and not simply emotional preferences. On the other hand these reasons have a public quality, that is need to be capable of convincing people of various beliefs and nations. For this to take place there needs to be a discernment process between what is a personal faith matter and those convictions that need to be defended in the public square. Kata-kata Kunci: Jati diri, negara, agama, nalar publik, kesadaran, dialog, pluralitas.
