Abstract

In the learning process, a teacher must have a strategy in any subject including English lesson. Why the lecturer must have strategy in teaching, because strategy can support the learning process and achieve the learning goals. The strategy used by lecturer in teaching English will make the students more enjoy of the learning process because in the class the students have different abilities in understanding English lesson. The aim of this research is to analyzed lecturer’s strategies in teaching English at class of Intensive English Course of Language Center IAIN Samarinda 2019/2020. The researcher used qualitative research design. The subject of this research was one English lecturer of English Course at Language Center IAIN Samarinda. The data were gotten from interview. Then the data would be analyzed by reduction, display and conclusion. The result of this research showed that the lecturer’s strategies in teaching English as follows: (1) The lecturer prepared the Lesson Plan (RPS) before teaching English. Lesson Plan has an important role to improving the quality of education. (2) In giving materials the lecturer was not only use text book but also used article and internet. (3) The methods used by teacher in teaching English were Grammar Translation Method. (4) The media used by lecturer in teaching English were Visual. (5) In classroom the lecturer build the good interaction with the students and helped the students who have difficult in the lesson. (6) The lecturer used oral and written test and also his own assessment to student every two weeks. (7) The lecturers gave reinforcement to the students in the last of lesson by giving motivation to always improve study in English and ask the students that still not understand about the lesson to consult with the lecturer and asked the students to review again the material that has been learned at home.

Abstract

Translation is one of the best skills that can help us to understand the word, phrase, clause, and sentence in a text or context, to understand the message what the speaker said and especially to communicate each other. This research was conducted based on the research background that is many students got confuse or difficulties to translate sentence. It makes them often fail to understand the meaning of the sentence. The objectives of this research are to know the accuracy, clarity, naturalness, and mechanic of the students’ English translation of Islamic short stories by the sixth semester of English Education Department at IAIN Samarinda in academic year 2019/2020 and to know the quality of the students’ English Translation of Islamic short stories by the sixth semester of English Education Department at IAIN Samarinda in academic year 2019/2020. This research used descriptive quantitative research. The main instrument was the translation text. The subject of the research was the sixth semester students of English Education Department, IAIN Samarinda which consist of 30 students. The collected data were analyzed by using statistic calculation of Mean. The result of this research showed the students’ translating English into Indonesian based on each aspect as follows: first, the result of all the accuracy’s score were 22 (good to average), second, the result of all the clarity’s score was 20 (fair to poor), third, the result of all the naturalness’s score was 16 (very poor), and last, the result of all the mechanic’s score was 12 (very poor). Based on the result of this thesis, that the Mean score is 69,43. The researcher concludes that the class quality in translating English Islamic short stories is the category “Fair” quality.

Abstract

Listening is one of necessary skill in learning English and also the patent skill in English language beside speaking, writing, and reading. Listening is considered as the most basic skill because it is firstly used by learners when they begin to learn a language, especially spoken language. In addition, unconsciously, listening is much more used in classroom than other skills. Nowadays, listening is the most difficult skill for many students to understand. The aim of this research was to find out the empirical data which could determine whether there is a significant effect of using podcast on students‘ listening skill at the second grade of SMK Negeri 6 or not. The method used was quantitative method with quasi-experimental research as its design. The samples of this research were 25 students of TITL 1 class as the experimental class and 25 students of TITL 2 class as the controlled class. Those samples were elected by using purposive sampling. To collect the data from both classes, this research used a listening test provided in a pre-test and post-test as the research instrument. Based on the result of the research, data from both pretest and post-test were calculated and analysed by using IBM SPSS Statistic 21. And the result revealed that the post-test mean score of the experimental class was greater than that of the controlled class, namely (80.88 > 77.04). It meant that the experimental class and the controlled class were different significantly in their posttest mean score. Then, the result of hypotheses analysis showed that tobserve was higher than ttable (2.098 > 1.677) and the significance 2-tailed (P) was lower than the alpha (0.041 < 0.05). It meant that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Thus, it can be considered that using podcast has given significant effect on students‘ listening skill. In addition, the result was also measured by using cohen‘s d effect size measurement to know the strenght of the effect. And the result showed that using podcast in teaching listening gave a moderate effect on students‘ listening skill with the effect size of 0.51.

Abstract

Pronunciation is very important to avoid misunderstanding when people are communication. If it pronunciation is wrong, the meaning of the word changes. It can make someone not understand what we are saying. Many students still have error pronunciation. In IAIN Samarinda, Non-English studies are given English lessons like TOEFL, Public Speaking and language intensive. The lesson is not far from pronunciation, grammar, speaking, reading and listening. They are the students of International Class Program (KKI). The objective of research is to know is the students’ English vowel pronunciation error at the sixth semester of Islamic Studies of International Class Program of state Islamic institute (IAIN) of Samarinda. The research used descriptive qualitative. The main instrument is test. This research is carried out on the sixth semester students of International Class Program (KKI) of State Islamic Institute of Samarinda in the year 2019/2020. There are 15 students as participants. The result was found that there was an error in pronouncing English vowel. From the most common mistakes, to those that do not occur, are as follow: vowel /ʊə/ had 17 errors in both words, /ʌ/ occurred 15 errors, /ɒ/ occurred 12 errors, /ɑː/ occurred 8 errors, /ə/ occurred 7 errors, /ɪə/ occurred 6 errors, /ɔː/ occurred 4 errors, /eɪ/ occurred 4 errors, /ɔɪ/ occurred 4 errors, /ɛə/ occurred 4 errors, /aɪ/occurred 3 errors, /aʊ/ occurred 3 errors, /uː/ occurred 2 errors, /ɜː/ occurred 2 errors, /æ/ occurred 2 errors, /ɪ/ occurred 2 errors, /iː/ occurred 1 errors, /ʊ/ occurred 0 errors, /e/ occurred 0 errors, and /əʊ/ occurred 0 errors. The results showed that the participants were more dominant making mistakes in vowels /ʊə/, /ʌ/, and vowel /ɒ/.

Abstract

The background of this research were difference between word formation in Indonesian and English can cause some errors in students` writing. Errors are the result of incomplete learning and linguistic incompetency of the learners and errors cannot be self-corrected. Therefore, the errors made by students indicate that the learners do not mastered English yet. To know what are the errors made by the learner, it needs to use error analysis (EA). The objective of this research was to know the errors in applying inflectional morphemes made by students in descriptive writing. The research used descriptive qualitative. The main instrument is document. This research is carried out on the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 14 Samarinda. There are 18 students as participants. The result showed that types of errors in the use of English inflectional morphemes that were found in this research only five types from eight types. They are plural inflection, possessive inflection, superlative inflection, past participle inflection, and third-person singular inflection. Which the rest of the types of errors (progressive inflection, past tense inflection, and comparative inflection) were not found. It also showed that plural inflection error was on the first rank with sixteen errors, then it was followed by third-person singular inflection error on the second rank with six errors, on the third rank were possessive inflection and past participle tense inflection with five errors, and the last was superlative inflection with four errors.

Abstract

In learning Arabic, it does not only require knowledge in terms of qowaid or Arabic grammar. But we also have to learn and multiply the Arabic vocabulary. By increasing the Arabic vocabulary, it will be easier for someone to improve their Arabic skills, especially in speaking skills. In this paper, the author examines how the mastery of Arabic vocabulary and speaking skills of students of 11th Grade Students at Trubus Iman High School For Girls Paser. And how is the relationship between mastery of Arabic vocabulary and speaking skills of students of Eleventh Grade Students at Trubus Iman High School For Girls Paser. This research is a field research, which uses quantitative analysis with the product moment correlation formula from Pearson to answer the problems in this research. The results of this study indicate that there is a correlation relationship in the "medium" category between Arabic vocabulary mastery and Arabic speaking skills of students 11th Grade Students at Trubus Iman High School For Girls Paser, as evidenced by analysis of hypothesis testing with the product moment correlation formula, which obtained a significance value. of 0.000 <0.05 and the Pearson correlation value of 0.457 is included in the category of moderate correlation. And the average value of Arabic vocabulary mastery of students is = 86 and the average value of students' Arabic speaking skills is = 84 which means mastery of Arabic vocabulary and Arabic speaking skills of students of Eleventh Grade Students at Trubus Iman High School For Girls Paser in the Good category.

Abstract

The main concern of the research was the effectiveness of think-pair- share (TPS) model toward the listening comprehension of the eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Anggana in the academic year of 2021/2022. The study aimed to find out the data of the students on listening comprehension by using the TPS model to know whether there was effect of teaching model. The research employed an experimental research design administering two groups with pre-test and post-test. The groups were the experimental group and the controlled group. The experimental group was a group that was given treatment by TPS model for the listening comprehension. In contrast, the controlled group was a group that was provided with the conventional model. The data were taken by administering the fifteen multiple-choice comprehension tests to determine the students’ listening comprehension. The subjects were 66 students of the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Anggana in the academic year of 2021/2022. Each group consisted of 33 students. The treatment was given to the subject in the sixth meeting. Finally, the researcher gave the post-test to the two groups and analyzed the score. Then the data were analyzed by using t-test to determine whether there was a significant difference between the TPS model and the conventional model. The result of the research TPS model has a positive advantage on students’ comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the mastery of students' mufrodat before and after the application of wordwall media and to determine the effect of wordwall media on the mastery of students' mufrodat in class III MIN 2 Samarinda. The research method used in this study is a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design model. The results of the study were 1) The mastery of students' mufrodat before the application of wordwall media in the control class and the experimental class was very low. 2) Students' mastery of mufrodat after the application of wordwall media increased very significantly. 3) The influence of wordwall media on students' mastery of mufrodat is known by conducting several tests, namely to determine the direction and magnitude of the influence of wordwall media on students' mastery of mufrodat, researchers conducted a correlation test. Based on the results of the correlation test, obtained the value of sig. The 2-tailed value is 0.00 < 0.05 and the Pearson correlation value is 0.886 which indicates that there is a very strong relationship with students' mastery of mufrodat. To test the hypothesis, the researcher used the paired sample t test, while the sig. 2-tailed obtained is 0.00 <0.05, this indicates that there is an influence of wordwall media on students' mastery of mufrodat. And the results of the determination test of 0.779 showed that wordwall media had an effect of 77.9% on students' mastery of mufrodat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how the effect of using animation movies on the understanding of Qowaid Shorof of class XII students of the Department of Religion at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Samarinda. This research is a quantitative research. The sampling technique in this study was a saturated sample, namely the entire population was used as a sample, namely 44 students of class XII Department of Religion at MAN 2 Samarinda. The research instruments used in this study were questionnaires filled out by students and also the results of students' test scores. Based on the results of data analysis using the Chi Square formula (x2hit) = 27.47 then consulted with the price (x2tab), at the 5% significance level with db = 4, namely at the 5% significance level (x2tab) = 9.4887. This shows that (x2hit) is greater than (x2tab). Thus, Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. So it can be seen that there is an effect of using animation movies on Shorof's understanding of class XII students of the Department of Religion at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Samarinda.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya Unit Pengembangan Bahasa pada setiap PTKIN Indonesia dan pembelajaran bahasa dilaksanakan pada semester awal, sehingga adanya UPB dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar bahasa Arab pada mahasiswa jurusan PBA (Pendidikan bahasa Arab) untuk ke jenjang perkuliahan selanjutnya. Adapun untuk metode Penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif dengan pendekatan metode campuran (mixed) yaitu mengkombinasikan bentuk kualitatif dan bentuk kuantitatif. Sumber data penelitian pengurus UPB, dan mahasiswa PBA UINSI Samarinda semeter enam. Teknik pengumpulan data ialah wawancara, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi. Adapun teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu pengumpulan data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Arab di UPB berperan dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar bahasa Arab mahasiswa PBA UINSI Samarinda. Hal ini dapat kita lihat dari hasil angket yang mana keseluruhan dari responden menyatakan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Arab di UPB membantu mahasiswa untuk mengahadapi pembelajaran bahasa Arab pada semester selanjutnya dan pada uji korelasi juga menunjukkan diketahui rhitung = 0,893256646 dan rtabel = 0,1841, jadi maka 0,893256646 > 0,1841, maka kesimpulan akhir adalah antara variable UPB dan motivasi belajar terdapat hubungan.
