Abstract

The phenomenon of human psychology is an important aspect in understanding the existence and dynamics of human life. This article aims to examine the structure and function of the soul from the perspective of the Quran and to compare it with modern scientific views, especially psychology. The Quran depicts the soul as a spiritual entity that possesses the potential for both good and evil, which can develop towards inner tranquility (nafs muṭma’innah) or fall into moral corruption (nafs ammārah). The scientific approach through psychology explains the soul as the center of thinking, feeling, and acting processes. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach, this study finds common ground between the concepts of psychology in revelation and science, which mutually reinforce each other in explaining the essence of humans as physical and spiritual beings.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the communication strategies of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in dealing with the characteristics of Generation Z to improve the quality of teaching and learning activities (KBM) at MTs Hidayatus Subban Semarang. Generation Z has a tendency to learn quickly, visually, interactively, and is close to the digital world, so it requires teachers to implement more adaptive and interesting communication. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with observation techniques, in-depth interviews and documentation as the basis for data collection. The research results show that Islamic Religious Education teachers employ four main communication strategies. First, they use concise, clear, and relevant verbal language to enhance students' digital experiences, making the material easier to understand. Second, they utilize nonverbal communication such as expressions, eye contact, intonation, and gestures to reinforce moral messages and build rapport. Third, they integrate digital media such as videos, visual graphics, and supporting applications to attract interest and enhance understanding of religious concepts. Fourth, they apply a dialogic approach through discussions, questions and answers, and case analysis to enhance students' active participation and critical thinking skills. These findings conclude that adaptive, varied, and technology-based communication strategies can increase motivation, engagement, and the quality of teaching and learning in Generation Z students. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in developing Islamic Religious Education learning communication models in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the role of ustadz as agents of religious moderation at the Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur’an (MTA) Islamic Boarding School in Karanganyar, Central Java, through a qualitative case study involving 12 informants using interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that educational background and preaching experience influence the ustadz’s understanding and strategies in internalizing moderation, whether through sermons, discussions, exemplary conduct, or non-formal activities, although consistency remains uneven. The ustadz play a role in fostering tolerance and social harmony, with positive impacts on students’ mindsets, making them more critical, inclusive, and tolerant, despite some still perceiving moderation as a weakening of principles. Challenges include student resistance, limited ustadz capacity, and the influence of digital media, while opportunities involve media literacy, inter-community activities, and internal policies. The success of religious moderation depends on curriculum integration, role modeling, and sustainable social guidance, which can be replicated in other Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Busari Afeez Babatunde: The Influence of Islamic Education on Traditional Values in Yoruba Society. Master’s Program in Islamic Education (S-2 Pendidikan Agama Islam), Faculty of Tarbiya and Teacher Training, Alma Ata University, Yogyakarta. Yoruba society has experienced long-standing interaction between indigenous cultural traditions and Islamic education, which has shaped moral conduct, social norms, and communal life. However, despite the deep historical presence of Islam in Yorubaland, there remains a research gap in understanding how Islamic education specifically influences, preserves, reshapes, or negotiates traditional Yoruba values in contemporary society. This study aims to examine the major traditional values upheld in Yoruba society, describe the influence of Islamic education on the social and cultural life of the Yoruba people, and identify the factors that contribute to either harmony or tension between Islamic educational teachings and Yoruba traditional values. The research employed a qualitative research design using a descriptive and analytical approach. The population of the study consisted of Yoruba Muslim communities in Southwestern Nigeria, with 150 population comprising Islamic scholars, parents, and students selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews from 60 participants and document analysis, while data validity was ensured through triangulation. The data were analyzed thematically, guided by Berger’s Social Construction of Reality Theory, particularly the stages of externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The results reveal that Islamic education significantly reinforces core Yoruba traditional values such as festival, dressing, and moral uprightness, while reforming certain cultural practices to align with Islamic monotheism. Islamic education provides a moral framework that complements Yoruba ethical principles and supports cultural continuity amid modern challenges. The study concludes that Islamic education plays a crucial role in moral transformation and cultural preservation, fostering a balanced coexistence between faith, tradition, and modernity within Yoruba society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the POE2WE (Predict, Observe, Explain, Elaborate, Write, Evaluate) learning model assisted by PhET simulations in improving students’ conceptual understanding of Newton’s laws. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a posttest-only nonequivalent control group design. The population consisted of 68 eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Bukit Batu, Indonesia, in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was divided into two groups: the experimental class, which received instruction using the POE2WE learning model assisted by PhET simulations, and the control class, which was taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through a posttest consisting of multiple-choice questions designed to measure seven indicators of conceptual understanding: interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, generalizing, inferring, comparing, and explaining. Data analysis was conducted using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that the experimental class achieved a higher average score (70.32) categorized as good, compared to the control class (53.94) categorized as fair. Inferential analysis using the Mann–Whitney U test revealed a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. These findings suggest that the implementation of the POE2WE learning model assisted by PhET simulations is effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of Newton’s laws. Therefore, this study contributes to the development of interactive and technology-based physics learning strategies.

Abstract

This study analyzes the integration of Najm al-Din Ath-Thufi’s concept of maslahah within DSN-MUI fatwas and its implications for the teaching of fiqh muamalah. Using a qualitative normative-pedagogical approach, the study finds that DSN-MUI’s ijtihad is collective and integrative, employing bayānī, ta‘līlī, and istiṣlāḥī approaches. The principle of maslahah is substantively internalized in the fatwas through an orientation toward public interest, justice, and responsiveness to contemporary economic innovations, while remaining within the boundaries of definitive texts (nash qat‘i) and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Pedagogically, this integration is relevant for developing contextual learning through a fatwa-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, which bridges the gap between classical legal texts and modern economic practices. This study proposes an integrative framework linking maslahah, ijtihad methodology, and Islamic pedagogy.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the relationship between Qur’an memorization (tahfidz) and learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level using a literature review approach. The research method employed is a systematic literature review, analyzing peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and relevant academic publications published between 2015 and 2025. The data were analyzed through a process of identification, classification, and synthesis to obtain comprehensive and valid conclusions. The results of the study indicate that Qur’an memorization has a positive and significant relationship with students’ learning outcomes in PAI. This relationship is reflected in three main domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. In the cognitive domain, students involved in tahfidz activities tend to show improved memory capacity, concentration, and understanding of Islamic concepts. In the affective domain, memorization contributes to the development of discipline, learning motivation, and positive attitudes toward religious values. Meanwhile, in the psychomotor domain, students demonstrate better performance in Qur’anic recitation skills, including fluency and accuracy in tajwid. However, the effectiveness of Qur’an memorization in improving learning outcomes is influenced by several moderating factors, including teaching methods, teacher competence, learning environment, and student characteristics. Ineffective instructional design and excessive memorization load without adequate comprehension may reduce its educational impact. In conclusion, Qur’an memorization contributes positively to learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education at the elementary school level, provided that it is implemented through structured, balanced, and student-centered learning approaches. This study recommends the integration of memorization and comprehension-based strategies to optimize students’ holistic development.

Abstract

Biogas is a renewable energy source that can be produced from organic waste, such as water hyacinth and cow dung. Utilizing these two materials through co-digestion has the potential to increase biogas production due to a better nutrient balance. This study aims to analyze the effect of the substrate ratio on the volume of biogas produced through anaerobic digestion. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by reviewing five relevant scientific articles based on certain inclusion and exclusion criteria. The parameters analyzed include the substrate ratio, biogas volume, and hydraulic retention time (HRT) or fermentation duration. The results of the study indicate that the substrate ratio has a significant influence on biogas production. Ratios that are close to balance, such as 50:50 and 47:53, tend to produce more optimal and stable biogas volume. Conversely, unbalanced ratios, such as 33:67, show varying results depending on operational conditions. Differences in biogas volume between studies are also influenced by other factors, such as retention time, raw material characteristics, and process conditions such as pH and temperature. The lignocellulose content of water hyacinth can inhibit the degradation process if not balanced with an adequate nitrogen source from cow dung. In conclusion, a balanced substrate ratio plays a crucial role in increasing biogas production, but it needs to be supported by controlling other operational parameters to achieve optimal and sustainable results.
