Abstract

The research was aimed at finding out whether or not using animated short story was effective to improve the students’ achievement, to create students’ joyfulness in writing classroom and whether or not students’ joyfulness have a correlation with students’ writing achievement. The research was carried out under the quantitative paradigm with quasi experimental design. Class VIII/1 and Class VIII/2 were chosen as the samples of this research obtained through cluster sampling technique from the population that consisted of 56 students. The data of the students’ writing ability were collected by using writing test and questionnaire. The data collected were then analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS 20.0 program. The research result showed that using animated short story was more effective than unanimated story in improving the students’ writing achievement. It’s seen from the significance t-test result that reveals the significance value is lower than the significance.

Abstract

The research aims to show the use of pictures to teach simple present tense sentence construction to English young learners. It is important to teach sentence construction to young learners because young learners must begin to make their selves familiar with constructing sentences before they develop and improve their English to the next levels. The method used in conducting this research was Systematic Review to determine the use of pictures in teaching simple sentence construction to English young learners. There were 10 articles from year 2010 – 2022 related to the titles analyzed by the researcher by using Systematic Review. As the result of the research, it is concluded that teaching English using pictures enable young learners to construct simple sentences in English.

Abstract

For teaching and learning process today, especially since the Covid-19, teachers rely more on technology as a medium or learning tool. One of the main problems that arise in learning English as a foreign language or second language for the young learners is vocabulary. Besides, in the area of ​​research, English is taught in not all primary schools. So, it becomes hard for the students to learn English when they come to Junior High School. The lack of vocabulary of the 7th grade student of SMP Negeri 1 Kauditan is the reason for the writer to raise vocabulary as a problem for the young learners that must be found a way out. For this reason, Bitmoji Application are used in this study to be used as interactive and interesting learning media for young learners so it is hoped that it will help them master vocabulary more quickly and easily. In this study, 30 students of 7th grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kauditan were the participants. This is qualitative research and the results of this study are expected to help teachers in the classroom in teaching vocabulary.

Abstract

Comprehension and considerations of parents that needed before put the children into preschool. Nowadays, many parents want to put their children into early childhood education, like Preschool. All of the partial of early childhood education, like teacher, preschool (institute or school), and especially parents are expect their children to get a good achievement or good progress in learning education. Preschool is an early childhood program in which children combine learning with play in a program run by professionally trained adults. This research aimed to help the teacher, parents and preschool to understand their role and contribution to gain the successful and effectiveness of learning process in early childhood education. Especially to help parents to take a right comprehension and consideration that needed for they to know, before put their children into preschool. This article was using library research. The data were collected from several sources such as journal articles, literature. This article showed right comprehension and considerations by parents before put children into preschool are important, because it could help parent and children to be selectively choose the institutional of preschool that provide they needed. Remembering every child had different needs. This article could help parents to identify the basics that should provide by preschool, including the good materials, activities, place hygiene, character education, and moral values

Abstract

Hegemony is a dominance treatment from one to another. This article tried to compare women’s resistance against hegemony from novels. Lasiyah, the protagonist in Bekisar Merah, and Hester Prynne, the protagonist in The Scarlet Letter, both encountered oppressive hegemonic values from their patriarchal societies, namely Javanese and Puritans. Using Hegemony and Comparative Literature theories, this research reveals the two protagonists' resistance to hegemonic values, which caused them to become new people with new personalities and identities. They were also reborn. Both women were motivated by similar factors, such as pride and dignity, to engage resistance. Women, who are generally regarded as weak and powerless, are, in fact, strong and powerful.

Abstract

This research wants analyse a popular song around the world entitled “What a Wonderful World”. The song has become popular in every generation. This research follows Fairclough’s three inter-related processes of analysis tied to three inter-related dimensions of discourse as follow: (1) The object of analysis (2) The processes by means of which the object is produced and received by human as subjects. (3) The socio-historical conditions which govern these processes. The song lyric become the object of this research. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) used in analyse the song lyric by connecting to the social context in Indonesia. The result shows (1) Armstrong describes world as wonderful, although the singer himself is a black American that faced prejudice and bitterness (2) The song was written during hard time, a terrible turmoil in American society. (3) The song had released on 1967, on that time, the daily life and politic situation of America are disturbed. It is full of hatred and prejudice of racialism. The lyrics in the song offers description of how the world could be wonderful if we wonders and appreciate nature and create a good friendship, indirectly this song brings hope for the better future. Relate to the social context in Indonesia, this song lyric become as a good reminder for Indonesian to keep the wonderful, peaceful, and harmonization atmosphere, remembering Indonesia has many diverse culture, religion, racial, and ethnic. This research expected to remind people in every field not only in ELT, the power of love in giving hope for the future and to make world become better by what we are doing to the world with love nature and create a good relationship with anyone.

Abstract

In this era of technology, it helped us to easily get the other interesting learning media when the textbook become bored, especially through this pandemic of Covid 19. Most of learners want improvement of their language skills in their learning process, novel could be the interesting and powerful booster. This systematic review aims to examine the effectiveness of using novels in learning process to improve the language skills in English with showed the benefit and the weakness or problem that may encounter while using novel, and also the solution to optimize the use of novel in learning process. Previous research study about Novel in ELT published 2009 to 2021. Eleven previous studies were included and reviewed in terms: context, focus, and main findings. Result showed that mostly learner’s language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in English are increased. Novel also can improve grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, social culture, critical thinking, personal growth, motivation and foster student- centre learning. This systematic review could help learners and teacher to consider the novel as a learning media that could be included in learning process to improve their language skills in English. For the future researcher, this systematic review could be another reference to improve the research about novel in ELT, especially the right and reliable solution to face the lack of novel when apply in ELT.

Abstract

The aim of this study to improve students’ writing skill especially for students in SMA Negeri 2 Manado X Ipa 1. The subject of this study is the 36 students in X Ipa 1 SMA Negeri 2 Manado. Utilized data collection techniques include observation, testing, and documentation. The first cycle of students' learning describes a tourist destination. Students have challenges in verbal and non-linguistic domains (courage, honesty, and attitude, respectively). On the second cycle, they describe a destination for tourists. Cycle II focuses more on linguistic (vocabulary, structure, and punctuation) and non-linguistic (fluency and mastery of language) qualities that are still deficient. Planning assessment, implementation evaluation, and project evaluation (contain, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics) were deemed adequate for this study. The results of a test measuring kids' writing skills indicate an increase. The increase occurred as follows: (1) the average pre-cycle value of 72.75 increased to 78.06; (2) the average evaluation value of the first cycle was 78.06 with a completeness percentage of 50 percent; and (3) the average evaluation value of the second cycle is 84.46 with a completeness percentage of 84.37 percent.

Abstract

Global demands require the world of education to always and constantly adapt technological developments to efforts to improve the quality of education. The use of online learning or e-learning as a learning media helps to improve the quality of education. Although in practice there are advantages and disadvantages to implementing e-learning in learning. The aim of this study was to evaluate English learning based on e-learning as media in SMA N 1 Kawangkoan. Uneven internet access is a fundamental problem faced in the implementation of e-learning. As stated by (Mutia & Leonard, 2013) that to get an effective e-learning process, students and teachers must have good devices and internet access. Furthermore, the application of e-learning can result in the interaction between students and teachers being not warm. The use of electronic media in this case social media made a distance in communication between students and teachers. And teachers found a cultural scrape in the way students communicate with teachers in inappropriate language, such as communicating with peers. Not pay attention to the time in contact with the teacher and students unknow the teacher who has taught.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss what environmental damage is discussed in the novels The Color Purple by Alice Walker and Bekisar Merah by Ahmad Tohari. In this study using a qualitative method as the method, data collection is done by analyzing the dialogues in the novel and then writing it down and researching it. The use of supporting sources is also applied in this study. For further research, it is suggested to put more emphasis on what environmental damage occurred in the novel and compared it with environmental damage in the real world. Comparisons like this are very interesting to study, but due to the lack of available sources, it is requested to conduct further research.
