Abstract

Introduction: WHO data shows that 15 million babies are born with low birth weight (LBW) each year, and this number continues to rise. The challenge faced is how to improve healthy living behaviors during pregnancy and early detection of pregnancy risks. The issue of low birth weight is very serious and requires handling through strengthening promotional and preventive measures provided to pregnant women. The role of health cadres is also very important as providers of information and community mobilizers. Therefore, there is a need for effective digital-based empowerment methods for health cadres to improve preventive health behaviors against the occurrence of LBW. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of a health promotion intervention model through the participatory empowerment of digital-based health cadres in preventing LBW incidentsMethods: A Quasi-Experimental research design with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design involving 70 health cadre respondents (n: 35 in each intervention and control group) using Purposive Sampling technique, with inclusion criteria for cadres who are active; aged between 25 to 49 years; have at least a junior high school education; and possess a smartphone with a strong internet connection. The research instrument consists of a sociodemographic questionnaire, knowledge, attitudes, and the roles of cadres that have been tested for validity and reliability. Educational media in the form of a website-based e-module on the prevention of LBW. Test the normality of the data using the Shapiro-Wilk test and analyze the data using the Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney test, Paired t-Test, and Independent t-Test.Results: The statistical test results indicate a significant effect with knowledge, attitudes, and the role of cadres showing a p-value of 0.000 (p-value<0.05); this means that the digital-based participatory empowerment model for cadres is more effective in improving the behavior of preventing LBW incidents. The Mann-Whitney test results show that the average knowledge in both groups indicates a significant difference, with a mean value of 44.21 in the intervention group being higher than the control group, which has a mean value of 26.79 (p-value=0.000). The Independent t-Test results show that there is no statistically significant difference in the average attitudes and roles of cadres between the intervention and control groups (p-value>0.05).Conclusion: The model of participatory empowerment of cadres through digital-based training activities and cadre mentoring, along with the use of educational media in the form of e-modules, represents an innovation that can be implemented by health workers and cadres in efforts to promote health regarding the prevention of LBW incidents among pregnant women.

Abstract

Introduction: Monitoring vital signs (VS) is a key nursing responsibility for early detection of clinical deterioration and ensuring patient safety. Although VS measurements—such as body temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and blood pressure—are simple, they are essential indicators. Nursing students are introduced to VS monitoring early in their education, but their attitudes vary depending on individual and contextual factors.Method: This cross-sectional and descriptive study included all active professional nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur, Universitas Riau, and Universitas Advent Indonesia using total sampling. Data were collected online from July to August 2025 via an anonymous questionnaire containing demographic questions and the 16-item V-Scale across five domains. Attitudes were measured using a five-point Likert scale, and data were analyzed with SPSS 26 using descriptive statistics. Results: Most students showed moderate (59.5%) or positive (40.5%) attitudes, with no negative attitudes. In the five dimensions, the majority reported moderate attitudes in workload, technology, knowledge, and key indicators, while almost all students showed positive attitudes in communication (93.5%).Conclusions: Nursing students generally hold moderate to positive attitudes toward VS monitoring. Although demographic factors did not significantly affect overall attitudes, certain variables influenced specific dimensions, indicating the multidimensional nature of attitudes. Promoting positive attitudes requires enhancing knowledge, reinforcing professional values, and providing clinical experience-based coping strategies through a holistic educational approach.

Abstract

Introduction : Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the preferred vascular access for patients undergoing hemodialysis because of its lower complication rates and better long-term patency. However, inadequate self-care behaviors remain a major cause of AVF complications, including thrombosis, infection, and vascular access failure. Animated video-based education has emerged as a promising educational strategy to improve patient understanding and self-care behavior. Methods : A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design was conducted among 80 hemodialysis patients in a tertiary hospital in Bandung, Indonesia, from November 2025 to January 2026. Participants were assigned into an intervention group (n = 40) receiving animated video-based education in addition to routine nursing education and a control group (n = 40) receiving routine education only. Data were collected using the Scale of Assessment of Self-Care Behaviors with Arteriovenous Fistula in Hemodialysis (ASBHD-AVF). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests, repeated-measures ANOVA, and multiple linear regression. Results : The intervention group demonstrated a significant improvement in AVF self-care behavior scores from 45.68 ± 6.42 at baseline to 67.45 ± 5.73 after the intervention (p < .001), whereas the control group showed only minimal improvement. Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed a significant interaction effect between group and time (F = 86.47, p < .001) with a large effect size (partial η² = .526). Multiple linear regression analysis identified participation in animated video education as the strongest predictor of post-intervention AVF self-care behavior (β = .641, p < .001). Participants also reported positive perceptions regarding the clarity and usefulness of the animated videos. Conclusion : Education through animated videos significantly improved AVF access self-care behaviors among patients undergoing hemodialysis and may serve as an innovative nursing educational strategy to enhance patient self-management.
