Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyse the concept of rulership according to the perspectives of two scholars from the area of political philosophy, namely al-Ghazali and Machiavelli. It is important to fully understand the concept of rulership according to these two scholars as presented in their books Nasīhat al-Mulūk and The Prince in order to know the basis of political systems advocated by al-Ghazali and Machiavelli in relation to the advice they gave to their respective rulers in ruling the states during their time. It is necessary to research on this since their respective views on rulership are not only for the people who lived in the past, but also for the present and future generations. Of course, both scholars have contradictory views. Al-Ghazali upholds religion as the foundation of his political approach, whereas Machiavelli is a secular thinker, who detaches religion and morality for the foundation of his political approach. However, both scholars use the same framework of political system, which is the authoritarian political system framework, in giving advice to the rulers in governing their states. Thus, this thesis analyses the concept of rulership in order to justify the authoritarian style of political system that has been theorised by both al-Ghazali and Machiavelli, based on Nasīhat al-Mulūk and The Prince respectively using Juan Linz’s framework of authoritarian political system which are 1) limited pluralism, 2) mentally, 3) mobilization and 4) leadership.I used qualitative methodology, which is library research and content analysis in analysing the concept. In conclusion, based on the books, Nasīhat al-Mulūk by al-Ghazali and The Prince by Machiavelli, both scholars advocated authoritarian political system in giving advice to the rulers.

Abstract

This study explores the depiction of Muslim women in Western thought, critically analyzing the entrenched stereotypes and biases. It specifically addresses three prevalent allegations: the supposed oppression of women via Islamic dress codes, incidents of violence against women in Islamic contexts, and alleged discrimination between genders under Islamic law. Utilizing a critical analytical method, the research juxtaposes Islamic teachings with Western criticisms using both Islamic and Western references. Findings indicate that Western portrayals of Muslim women often lack depth and fail to consider the socio-religious contexts of Islamic practices. For example, while the hijab is portrayed in the West as a symbol of oppression, it is often embraced by Muslim women as a mark of modesty and dignity. The study also points out that issues like domestic violence and gender discrimination are globally prevalent and not exclusive to Islamic societies. It concludes that critiques grounded in Western secular and modernist values without an understanding of the Islamic perspective lead to distorted views of Islam. This research aims to bridge understanding and foster dialogue between Western and Islamic perspectives on women's rights and status, suggesting that while some areas in Muslim societies need reform, the overarching Western critique may not fully grasp the nuanced realities of Muslim women's lives.

Abstract

All over the world, values of people are increasingly deteriorating due to the modern life systems caused by ongoing advancement of science and technologies. This systematic study was conducted to analyze the nature of our trial by integrating the exposition of the Qur'an, Ahadith, and signs of Allah (S.W.T) in ourselves revealed to us through biomedical sciences. Data were collected from Qur’an and six canonical books of ahadith collection of Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a and published studies screened from MEDLINE, EMBASE & SCOPUS. Qur’anic data were analyzed by Thematic Approach [Uslub Tafsir Al-Maudhu’i] and Synoptic Approach [Uslub Tafsir Ijmali]. The findings show that our trial is governed by four things: ruh, heart, ears, and eyes. The ruh is an agent with heavenly origin installed with a desire to remember Allah (S.W.T); while the heart, ears, and eyes have an earthly origin, created from dust and water. However, despite its earthly origin, the heart is a controlling center of our trial; because it occupies the midst position; connecting in terms of communication, between the ruh and body. The ruh stress its desire to the body via the heart, and the information about the words and deeds of the body are communicated to the ruh via the heart; while the main gates of information to the heart are ears and eyes. The quality of the ruh will depend on quantity and quality of the information sent to the heart. These findings may add value to the existing efforts of dealing with moral deterioration.

Abstract

The events and turning points of the Prophet’s biography constituted, and still are, a source for providing the contemporary Muslim mind, and a source for understanding global events and the map of societies, through awareness of their events and awareness of their important lessons. The unique personality of Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, cannot be measured only by the achievements that took place during his time, but also by what resulted from them and what was achieved after him. He built a new, unified nation after dispersal, and produced great leaders from it, and made the Muslim person a civilized example with his mind. His approach, may God bless him and grant him peace, was purification, education, changing souls, refining them, and building hearts, based on firm and solid divine foundations to liberate man from slavery to other than God, correct his faith, purify himself with various types of worship and obedience, and refine him with good morals. By raising his companions, may God be pleased with them, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, achieved this eternal model of the righteous, divine human being. Accordingly, this paper aims to highlight the components of devotional and moral construction through applied models from the Meccan era, and to explain the methods that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, followed to achieve this, and the effects resulting from it, and to establish that following the example of our Master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace in general, and his educational and moral curriculum in particular. A legal requirement and a religious necessity. Hence, the following questions can be asked: How was the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, able to build the personality of a Muslim during the Meccan era, religiously and morally? What are the methods and components that were relied upon to achieve this balanced structure religiously and morally? How can the prophetic model be invested in improving our moral system? To address this topic, we have divided it into three sections: The first topic: The components of devotional construction during the Meccan era, The second topic: The elements of moral construction during the Meccan era, The third topic: The fruits and effects of the Prophet’s method in the devotional and moral structure during the Meccan era.

Abstract

One of the courses that can be used in universities to familiarize students with responsibility is Islamic education courses. These courses are culture-building and human-building courses that can play an essential role in the education of young people and the cultural construction of society by promoting Islamic culture. For this reason, the curriculum planners of Islamic education courses should focus their efforts on designing curricula that meet the needs of students and especially teach responsibility skills from a religious-religious aspect. The present research was carried out using a descriptive survey method on 248 people who had taken Islamic education courses.  In this research, a stratified random sampling method was used. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire in the form of several questionnaires in the three dimensions of insight, attitude, and behavior, and answers were on a five-point Likert scale. The content and structure validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts and its reliability coefficient was estimated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.86. Data analysis was done at the inferential level (one-sample t-test, independent t-test, analysis of variance) using SPSS software. The content analysis of Islamic education courses in line with the impact of these courses on the insight, attitude, and behavior of students towards responsibility, shows that the average score measured is 19.04 out of 40, which indicates an impact of about 50%. The results of the present research show that the main task of Islamic education groups is to teach responsibility and skills to students, which requires a fundamental review and the development of a comprehensive document on the evolution of Islamic education courses

Abstract

The Islamic methodological approach to thinking and deriving evidence through argumentation and logical principles has been highlighted. Muslims, especially Moroccans, haven't solely relied on traditional evidence to establish beliefs and respond to opponents. They have also bolstered their perspectives with rational evidence, excelling in this regard. Ahmed al-Manjour, through the manuscripts we studied in this paper, revealed the vast array of rational methods he employed to defend prevalent beliefs in Morocco. This includes the freedom of thought, creativity, and classification that prevailed during the Saadi dynasty in Morocco. For al-Manjour, the matter of "al-Nathar" (contemplation) is fundamentally based on the necessity of broad knowledge in various sciences and disciplines to arrive at the correct evidence. The process of thinking and deriving judgments only occurs after comprehending numerous mental and transmitted sciences. Thus, the contemplation of religious and worldly matters isn't arbitrary. By doing so, he excludes laypeople and those unfamiliar with many sciences from the circle of deducing beliefs and determining people's fates. He also refutes viewpoints that hinder Islamic heritage for any intellectual direction that relies on reason and logic in thinking and presenting arguments and evidence.

Abstract

The spread of literacy, western civilization as well as the expansion of women’s job opportunities to men's field of endeavourhas levelled up the power tussle between men and women geometrically. Thus, women have proven to be resourceful, creative and active in ownership and shouldering responsibility as well as clamouring for participation in almost every aspect of life, especially leadership. However, several misconceptions about women leadership in Islām have risen among contemporary Muslim societies which have become impediments for some Muslim women to hold leadership positions. Base on this, this paper explored the relevance of bint al-Shati’s thought to clarifying the misconceptions surrounding women leadership in Islam. The research methods adopted were the historical method which was used in accounting for the biography of Bint Al-Shāṭi, the analytical; which aided in analysing the misconceptions about women's leadership in Islam, coupled with the views of Bint Al-Shāṭi and Muslim scholars and the phenomenological method which was used to relate the discussion to contemporary society. The research findings revealed that Bint Shāṭi challenged interpretations of religious texts that have been used to justify the marginalization and exclusion of women from leadership affairs. She further provided a progressive interpretation that promotes gender justice and equity and encouraged women to actively participate in public decision-making without exceeding their limitations. The paper concluded that her thoughts provided valuable insights into natural dispositions surrounding women's leadership in Islam and emphasized the women potential to be effective leaders by advocating education, equitable opportunities, and reinterpreting religious texts within an Islamic framework. The paper recommended that more attention and awareness should be paid to the sensitivity of women's issues in Islām to resolve the differences experienced in modern Muslim societies.

Abstract

The integration of moderation values in Islamic education is an important concern in the context of efforts to prevent radicalism. Education that prioritizes moderation can shape the character of students who are more tolerant, open-minded, and able to appreciate differences. Such education serves as a bulwark against the influence of radical ideologies that often utilize the loopholes of narrow and fanatical religious understanding. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The result of this study is that with a coordinated and comprehensive approach, and the values of moderation can be effectively integrated into the Islamic education curriculum, it can form a more tolerant and inclusive generation, and can contribute to the prevention of radicalism, especially among young people.

Abstract

Islam has made it obligatory to fight aggressors according to the Qur'ān and Sunnah, as a means of preserving religion from extinction, protecting the soul from destruction, safeguarding the mind from corruption, defending honor from violation, preventing financial loss, and securing land from occupation. However, when Muslim leaders neglected this duty, it led to the domination of enemies over Muslim countries and the imposition of a secular lifestyle upon them. Therefore, it is crucial to dedicate a study to this topic in order to strengthen Muslims, encourage them to confront their enemies, and contribute to the victory of Islam and Muslims. This research seeks to extract the benefits of fighting enemies through verses 14 and 15 of Surah At-Tawbah and to examine their impact on the Battle of Al-ʼaqsā Flood (2023). The study employs inductive, deductive, and descriptive-analytical approaches. The study found the following results: (1) Fighting the enemies of Islam means deterring any attempt and thwarting any conspiracy that aims to destabilize the security of any Muslim country and threatens the lives of its residents, all for the sake of Allah, the Almighty; (2) Extracting six Quranic benefits of fighting enemies, including: killing the enemies, humiliating them, granting victory to the Muslims, experiencing the joy of victory, alleviating the Muslims' anger towards those who wronged them, and strengthening the Muslims' faith while correcting the beliefs of the disbelievers in the face of this victory; (3) All of these benefits were clearly evident during the Battle of Al-ʼaqsā Flood; (4) Extracting thirty benefits from the outcomes of the Battle of Al-ʼaqsā Flood. Moreover, these identified benefits and their application to the Battle of the Flood serve as a powerful motivation for Muslims to have strong faith in Allah, the Almighty, and to trust in His promise of victory over the enemies. They also provide a fundamental foundation for inspiring and encouraging Muslims to fight the aggressors until victory or martyrdom.
