Abstract

Nusa Penida is a dry island with low rainfall throughout the year reaching 1428.40 mm. Water is an important means of supporting community life and tourism in Nusa Penida. As the population grows, the need for water also increases, so water needs to be managed using a drinking water management system. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach using social theory, namely Cultural Materialism Theory, to formulate the phenomenology of the socio-cultural impacts of drinking water system management on Nusa Penida Island. The research method uses a qualitative approach with primary data sources originating from direct observations of each phenomenon found and secondary data originating from interviews with relevant figures and experts. The aim of the research is to determine the impact of the drinking water management system on social culture on Nusa Penida Island. The research results show that the existence of resources on Nusa Penida Island is quite adequate, originating from underground water in Kutampi Kaler Village and the Penida, Guyangan and Seganing springs which are managed by PDAM Klungkung Regency. Water is a very expensive resource and affects the economic, social and cultural conditions of the Nusa Penida community. In the past, before the 2000s, most of the people in the upper classes spent part of their income to buy water, which caused the social conditions of the community to experience poverty, because during the dry season people would spend their time walking to coastal areas to fetch water. Cultural reduction in the form of religion also occurs by building communal communities as supporters of temples that have fresh water wells on the coast. It can be concluded that the drinking water management system on Nusa Penida Island has had an impact in the form of a shift in the social life of the Nusa Penida community, namely increasing community welfare due to economic substitution and changes in social patterns due to easy access to drinking water and the emergence of new business activities from the presence of drinking water as proven by the changes. The culture of the people of Nusa Penida is a shift from agricultural culture to industrial culture (tourism). Changes in community cultural patterns due to the availability of drinking water, namely a shift in community livelihood patterns from an agricultural basis to an industrial (tourism) pattern.

Abstract

One of the regencies in Bali that has cultural and spiritual tourist attractions is Bangli regency. The existence of these tourist attractions should also be complemented by human resources such as tour guides, which, of course, begins with beginner tour guides. The aim of this research was to determine the strategies used by beginner tour guides in using the English language in carrying out their duties, as well as the challenges and solutions in the process. This research was conducted qualitatively using observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review as the methods. The results of this study found that when using English, the tour guides employ strategies in the preparation, execution, and farewell stages. Each of these stages involves specific strategies that reflect their respective phases. The challenges faced by beginner tour guides include nervousness, incomplete mastery of the subject matter, and limited vocabulary. The proposed solutions include language training provided by relevant parties, continuous practice in the field, and learning from more experienced colleagues. These solutions should be tailored to each individual's capacity to adapt to their learning pace.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the intrinsic value of companies in the subsector of tourism, restaurant, and hotel listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the year 2022. The research employs two valuation methods, namely Price to Book Value (PBV) and Discounted Cash Flow (DCF). The research approach used in this study is quantitative. The sampling technique applied is purposive sampling, where companies with positive earnings and equity were selected, resulting in 15 companies being chosen out of a population of 35 companies. The findings of the study reveal that in the year 2022, there were 4 undervalued stocks (trading below their fair value) using the PBV method, and 8 undervalued stocks using the DCF method. These undervalued stocks are recommended for purchase. On the other hand, in the year 2015, there were 11 overvalued stocks (trading above their fair value) using the PBV method, and 7 overvalued stocks using the DCF method. These overvalued stocks are suggested for selling. From the accuracy analysis, it can be observed that the DCF method produces more accurate intrinsic values compared to the PBV method, as indicated by the lower average RMSE of DCF compared to the average RMSE of PBV.

Abstract

Malang City is said to have the potential as a transit city or stopover for tourists both from within and outside the country. The potential of Malang City as a tourist transit city can be utilised in maximising the tourism potential owned by Malang City. Until now, there has been no study or scientific study on the analysis of Malang City as a transit city in maximising other tourism around it. This research is a descriptive qualitative research, the data collection techniques used are interviews with key informants, literature study, and observation. Data from the research results will be analysed using SWOT analysis. The result is that Malang City has great potential as a tourist transit point, with various strengths that can be explored to increase the number of tourist visits. The diversity of attractions, including natural, historical, cultural, and culinary tourism, makes Malang City attractive to various tourist segments. In addition, good transport facilities provide easy accessibility for visitors from various regions. However, there are some challenges that need to be overcome. Dense residential areas, lack of innovation in the development of tourist attractions, and limited facilities for travellers with special needs can reduce Malang City's potential as an attractive tourist transit point. In addition, inadequate road infrastructure, which manifests in traffic congestion on weekends, needs to be improved. To optimise the potential of Malang City as a tourist transit destination, cooperation between the government, the local community, and the private sector is needed so that it can become a more attractive and sustainable tourist transit destination.

Abstract

The largest city in the Riau Islands is Batam. Melayu Beach, which is located on Bridge 4 Barelang, is one of the interesting places in Batam City, about a 15 minute drive from Bridge 1 or around 45 minutes drive from Batu Aji. Melayu Beach can be said to be a beach that has been operating for a long time, therefore Melayu Beach has become quiet and visitors are starting to become less interested in Melayu Beach. This causes the need for a comprehensively planned tourist destination development strategy. The qualitative descriptive research methodology was chosen for this research. Data collection techniques are as follows: questionnaires, interviews, observation, literature review, and documentation. SWOT analysis is used in research to determine how well tourist attraction development methods have succeeded in increasing the number of visitors by evaluating the advantages, disadvantages, possibilities and dangers of each strategy. Based on the results of research using the SWOT matrix with four quadrants, the IFAS and EFAS matrices, it is clear that a business diversification plan is needed to maximize the attractiveness of the Malay coast tourist attraction as well as optimize its strengths and weaknesses. The development process is as follows: (1) Expanding social media with strong branding to develop Malay beaches and distributing brochures about Barelang Malay beaches in Batam, (2) Employing local people there to manage Malay beaches so that reduce the unemployment rate and increase the economic wealth of the area surrounding the Malay coast, (3) Improve the facilities and rides on the Malay coast, and (4) Protect and maintain the ecosystem on the Malay coast.
