Abstract

The main problem in red chili production is the attack of pests and diseases, particularly anthracnose caused by the fungus Colletotrichum spp., which can reduce yields by up to 60% if not controlled. Control methods typically involve the use of fungicides; however, excessive use can lead to pathogen resistance and negative environmental impacts. Therefore, there is a need for more environmentally friendly control alternatives, such as the utilization of biocontrol agents like rhizobacteria. This study aims to evaluate the inhibitory capacity and potential of rhizobacteria in suppressing the growth of Colletotrichum sp. fungi. In the first phase, 20 rhizobacterial isolates were tested, and 5 isolates were selected for further testing in the second screening phase. The research employed a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design, consisting of 6 rhizobacterial treatments with 5 replications, resulting in a total of 30 experimental units. The best inhibitory capacity was observed in rhizobacterial isolate RB 5 (2.44%) and RB 2 (2.41%). All rhizobacterial isolates exhibited variations in colony characteristics, color, and staining results. Additionally, all tested isolates showed potential for phosphate (P) solubilization, indicated by the formation of clear zones around the rhizobacterial suspensions. The highest catalase enzyme production was observed in isolates RB 3 and RB 5. While the rhizobacterial isolate RB 3 demonstrated pathogenicity, as evidenced by the softening of potato tissue after being scratched with the isolate, it still maintained a good inhibitory effect against the growth of Colletotrichum sp.

Abstract

The deterioration in the viability of rice seeds (Oryza sativa L.) during storage, frequently attributed to damage to the cell membrane and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), presents significant challenges for rice cultivation. ELF magnetic fields offer an eco-friendly solution by enhancing cellular responses and repairing membranes. This study investigated the impact of exposure to a 0.2 mT ELF magnetic field on the viability of 8-month-old aged rice seeds (Inpari 32 HDB variety) using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four exposure durations: control (M0), 3 minutes 54 seconds (M1), 7 minutes 48 seconds (M2), and 11 minutes 42 seconds (M3), replicated four times. Results indicated significant improvements in viability, with M2 and M3 yielding optimal germination rates (98.00%, 97.50%), reduced mean germination time (2.47 days), and enhanced germination index (268.75). Radicle and plumule lengths also increased (6.95 cm and 4.82 cm, respectively). Although germination speed coefficient, germination time, and uniformity values (51.50–60.50%) showed only minor improvements, the results underscore the potential of ELF magnetic fields as a sustainable method to enhance aged rice seed viability, contributing to improved agricultural practices.

Abstract

This research examines the ethnoeconomics of Mina Padi farming development in the lebak swamplands with a focus on the local wisdom of the Bugis community. The aim was to understand the economic value and benefits that farmers gain through this practice. The research took place from March 2023 to February 2024 and involved 75 Mina Padi farmers and key informants such as village heads and farmer group leaders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The approach used was mixed methods, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses within an ethnoeconomic framework to explore the economic, social, and cultural dimensions of Mina Padi farming. The results showed that farmers have inherited traditional rice and fish farming knowledge from their ancestors, which is now combined with modern technology. This process includes land cultivation, planting, maintenance, and post-harvesting, which is carried out with attention to ecological and economic aspects. Economically, Mina Padi farming provides important benefits in income diversification and food security for farming families through fish and rice supplies. This research confirms that the collaboration between local wisdom and modern technology has great potential to improve farmers' welfare and agricultural sustainability in lebak swamplands. The findings are expected to be valuable inputs for policymakers and sustainable agricultural development programs.

Abstract

Nowadays, many people follow a healthy lifestyle and preserve the environment, increasing consumption of organic products and organic land in Indonesia. Consumers of organic products state the need for quality assurance in organic products. In contrast, many farmers have limited information about organic quality assurance and organic farming procedures. Education can be carried out through partnerships between organic farming companies and farmers. A partnership system is needed as an alternative effort for farmers and companies to overcome farming problems—the partnership relationship implemented between organic farmers and CV. Reja Mayur has existed for 6 years, starting in 2018. However, despite the growing public interest in organic products, the number of farmers participating in this partnership has decreased. This research aims to analyze factors influencing the decision-making of organic farmers in Claket Village regarding establishing a partnership with CV. Reja Mayur. The study took place between November and December 2023. The technique applied to define the number of respondents is “census,” which means the sample includes the entire population. The sample size used was 11 respondents, the number of CV Reja Mayur partner farmers until 2023. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS by WarpPLS 7.0. The analysis demonstrated that personality (X1) and creative thinking (X3) significantly and positively affected farmers' decisions to join a partnership (Y). However, the participatory management style (X2) demonstrates a positive yet insignificant influence on farmers' decisions to join a partnership (Y).

Abstract

Tobacco is a plantation commodity that is widely cultivated in Sumberharjo Village. There are two types of tobacco for farmers to market: wet-leaf and dry-shredded leaf. This study was conducted to determine the optimal distribution channel for Virginia tobacco products in various forms. The research was conducted in October-November 2024 in Sumberharjo Village. The sample of respondents in this study consisted of 40 tobacco farmers, using randomly selected farmer samples, while the marketing institution samples were obtained through the snowball technique. The variables in this study were the selling price, the purchase price, and the marketing costs of Virginia tobacco. The data analysis used included marketing margin analysis to determine how large the marketing margin is in the distribution channel. The farmer's share analysis is intended to determine how much of the price the farmers own, and a marketing efficiency analysis is used to determine the most efficient distribution channel that will benefit the farmers. The results of the research show that the channel of 2 dry leaves of tobacco (farmers-wholesalers-warehouses) produces the highest farmer's share, so that farmers get the most significant portion of the added value of the product, namely 95%, and the smallest efficiency value, namely 0.406%. Farmers need to do profitable farming by selling in the most efficient distribution channel so that farmers receive high income.

Abstract

Risk management is essential to anticipate potential risks for corn farmers in Bonedaa Village, Suwawa Selatan Sub-district, and Bone Bolango Regency. One is the risk faced on the sloping land conditions owned by farmers. This study aims to (1) identify the risks farmers face in Bonedaa Village and (2) examine the risk management practices implemented to mitigate risks in corn farming in sloped land in Bonedaa Village. The benefits of this research are that it is a source of information for farmers related to the application of risk management for corn farming carried out on sloping land conditions so that farmers can overcome the risk that will occur. The study was conducted among corn farmers in Bonedaa Village over to Mons from June to July 2024 and involved 34 farmer respondents. The study employed a survey method, utilizing a questionnaire to collect the data. This study applied descriptive analysis to determine the risk encountered by farmers and HIRARC analysis to identify risk management performed within the corn farming risk anticipation in the sloped land. The findings reveal that: (1) farmers in Bonedaa Village face various risks, including production risks caused by increased costs and crop failure. These risks significantly affect profits and losses, where higher production risks correspond to greater income risks, leading to potential losses for farmers. (2) Risk management in Bonedaa Village was analyzed using the HIRARC method, identifying seven key risks faced by farmers: increased labor costs for land clearing, crop failure due to water shortages during prolonged drought, crop damage from heavy rainfall, decreased yields due to pests and diseases, prolonged harvest time due to sloped terrain, increased labor costs during harvest, and high transportation costs due remote, difficult road access. The average risk score was categorized as “High” (10). Additionally, farmers have implemented control measures for some risks, such as increasing labor costs for land clearing and addressing drought and fast issues. However, several risks remain unmanaged due to a lack of knowledge of effective mitigation strategies.
