Abstract

The urgent need to align banking practices with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has become increasingly apparent, particularly in the context of fostering industry, innovation, and infrastructure. The primary issue at hand is the insufficient integration of SDG 9 into banks’ core strategies and operations, despite its critical importance for sustainable development. The novelty of this study lies in its detailed examination of the extent to which Indonesian banks support SDG 9 through their reported activities, an area that has been underexplored in previous research. This research aimed to investigate the level of support from banking industries to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on SDG 9: industry, innovation, and infrastructure. This study utilized a content analysis approach to collect secondary data from the sustainability reports of 44 banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange between 2017 and 2020, resulting in 176 observations. In cases where sustainability reports were unavailable, annual and combined reports were used as unit analyses. The findings revealed that Indonesian banks have undertaken various activities to support SDGs, and there has been an increasing trend in disclosure from 2017 to 2020. However, the study found that a significant role of technology transformation, which should lead to innovation and support for SDG 9, was lacking. This finding suggests that SDGs are still primarily measured by external activities rather than internal activities, despite the importance of business strategy in supporting SDGs. Another significant finding was that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) received the most support for sustainable business activity categories (SBAC). The research contributes to the literature by providing insights into the level of support for SDG 9 and SBACs. The study also underscores the importance of measuring the impact of digital banking services, which have been widely implemented, and the need for significant support for SBAs in the environmental sector.

Abstract

The growing importance of global competition force companies not merely to sustain productivity and financial growth and plan for long-term competitiveness. Therefore, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, which guide companies in incorporating sustainability into their business practices, play a      pivotal role in navigating the complexities of sustainable operations. Effective ESG performance evaluation is crucial in resolving business concerns. Accordingly, this research aims to analyze the most suitable approach to materializing and addressing ESG issues in corporate strategies. The proposed research methodology combines qualitative and quantitative analyses, including interviews, thematic analysis, and the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The findings reveal that the Integrated Approach is the most effective strategy, with a weight of 24.1%, comprehensively balancing environmental, social, and governance priorities. The Stakeholder-Based Approach is also considered important, with a weight of 23.8%, emphasizing stakeholder engagement and collaboration. Meanwhile, the Compliance-Based Approach and the Opportunity-Based Approach exhibit lower effectiveness. This research contributes to a profound understanding of ESG performance evaluation, implementation strategies, and the role of sustainability in driving long-term business success while positively contributing to the environment and society. The limitations of the research and directions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract

The textile industry is a significant contributor to environmental degradation, leading to an increasing emphasis on sustainable entrepreneurship and circular supply chains. This qualitative case study examines the experiences of textile-based SMEs in Indonesia who use shredded fabric from larger textile industries to create new fashion products. The urgency of this study lies in understanding the challenges faced by small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in textile-based circular supply chains, particularly in their collaboration with stakeholders. The in-depth interviews with five SME owners, two consumers, a supplier, a government official, and a CSO activist uncovered several critical challenges, including limited availability and access to shredded-fabric and inconsistent quality and quantity of the raw material, transforming the shredded-fabric into finished fashion products, reaching SMEs’ target market and promoting their products effectively, and the management of small leftover fabric pieces from production, referred to as “tatal.” The study proposes the following strategies to address the challenges: foster trust and transparency with suppliers, reactivate the joint business cooperative, work with government agencies and policymakers to establish customized support and regulatory structures, collaborate with government agencies and academic institutions, expand the market for tatal waste beyond the arts, and partner with the Department of the Environment to manage tatal waste. The findings contribute to the academic literature on sustainable entrepreneurship and provide practical insights for SMEs, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to enhance the circularity of textile supply chains.

Abstract

Workflow automation plays a vital role in developing efficient government operations. Anchored on the Technology Acceptance Model, this descriptive-correlational study evaluated the efficiency of using automation tools in key work processes of a Philippine government agency. A census of the population was used to gather data from the 31 employees directly involved in the subject agency’s automation processes. Data were collected through a researcher-structured, validated questionnaire via Google Forms. These data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, multiple linear regression, ANOVA and Pearson r correlation analysis. The findings indicated that automation tools significantly enhanced the efficacy of key work processes in terms of speed, accuracy, and collaboration. Moreover, the study also revealed that employees are generally satisfied with performing routine and repetitive tasks because of the benefits of automation tools. However, the efficacy of key work processes is not significantly related to their overall job satisfaction. The study also revealed that the perceived impact of automation tools on key work processes is not affected by the demographic profile of the employees. This study also revealed that staff resistance and system integration issues are major barriers to the adoption of workflow automation. Furthermore, the study confirmed that there was no statistically significant correlation between perceived ease of use and problems encountered with automation tools.  A strategic roadmap is proposed to improve workflow automation efficiency and address adoption-related challenges. This study also offers valuable insights for other government agencies seeking to introduce and assess similar technologies to enhance workflow and operational efficiency.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of career pathing on job satisfaction among employees of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Document Processing Division in RR4, Pampanga. Career pathing is a strategic framework designed to outline clear advancement trajectories and to align skill development opportunities with promotions. This study uses a descriptive correlational design, incorporating a survey of 73 employees to assess the level of career pathing implementation and its relationship with job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using statistical methods to determine the strength of the correlation between career pathing practices and job satisfaction. Findings suggest that job promotions play a significant role in enhancing motivation and commitment, supporting the existing literature that shows a positive correlation between perceived advancement opportunities and job satisfaction. In the context of the Philippines, perceptions of career pathing are pivotal to job satisfaction because they influence workplace relationships and organizational culture. However, bureaucratic structures in government agencies can hinder career progression, leading to low employee morale and productivity. This research provides insights into the effectiveness of promotion criteria and transparency in BIR career pathing practices. The findings are expected to offer recommendations that enhance employee satisfaction and improve organizational stability. By contributing to the understanding of how career pathing can be optimized, this study seeks to help public sector organizations better meet their employees’ career aspirations.

Abstract

This research investigates the relationship between compensation and financial well-being among government employees in the National Capital Region (NCR), focusing specifically on the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Collection Service divisions. Utilizing a descriptive comparative-correlational design, the study analyzes data collected from 129 employees through a structured questionnaire to assess various aspects of the compensation scheme and its impact on financial well-being. The research delves into key elements of the compensation scheme, including salary satisfaction, the bonus structure, job grades, and salary adjustment processes. It evaluates how these factors contribute to employees' overall satisfaction with their compensation. Additionally, the study explores financial well-being by examining indicators such as income sufficiency, debt management, financial knowledge and skills, financial stability, and retirement preparedness. Significant demographic differences in perceptions of compensation and financial well-being are also investigated, with the research analyzing how these perceptions vary across age, gender, job position, years of service, educational attainment, monthly salary, and additional benefits and allowances. One of the central findings of the study is the moderate correlation between compensation and financial well-being, highlighting that improvements in the compensation system can lead to enhanced financial security and satisfaction among employees. While the majority of respondents report moderate satisfaction with their salaries and benefits, concerns remain regarding the adequacy of bonuses, limited opportunities for promotion, and the alignment of salary adjustments with performance. The study also emphasizes the importance of addressing specific demographic concerns, such as providing age-appropriate support, promoting financial literacy across gender identities, and ensuring equitable compensation across different job positions and educational levels. The research concludes with recommendations for policymakers and organizations to reform the compensation scheme, addressing these key areas to improve the financial well-being and satisfaction of government employees in the NCR.

Abstract

This study examines how coffee shops in Bandung implement the Triple Layered Business Model Canvas (TLBMC) to balance profitability with ecological stewardship and social responsibility. Its primary aim is to simultaneously highlight the core factors enabling such establishments to thrive within economic, environmental, and social dimensions. Employing a qualitative method, the research collects data from interviews and detailed on-site observations. The findings indicate that revenue diversification and efficient resource management result in economic benefits, while environmentally conscious initiatives such as local sourcing, composting practices, and reusable packaging reduce costs and enhance public image. Social engagement through staff development programs, community events, and transparent supply chain practices fosters greater customer loyalty and a positive brand reputation. The synergy among these three layers demonstrates the potential of the TLBMC framework to support holistic value creation, even for small-scale enterprises with limited resources. In conclusion, the study provides practical evidence that adopting a TLBMC-centered strategy can yield multiple tangible and intangible gains, thereby encouraging broader sustainability transformations in local coffee shop contexts. These findings underscore the value of integrating economic, environmental, and social considerations as a cohesive framework for fostering long-term business resilience and community well-being. However, this study is limited to coffee shops within a single urban context, which may reduce the generalizability of the findings. Future research could expand the geographical scope or employ longitudinal designs to strengthen the study’s broader applicability.
