Abstract

The story of Prophet Adam is a narrative that is often repeated in the Qur'an. This repetition is not a shortcoming but rather an advantage, especially in literary language, where it is known as uslub tikrar or the style of repetition. This article is library-based research using a descriptive-analytical method. This article answers questions related to the form of uslub tikrar in the story of Prophet Adam, its interpretation, and its relevance to life. The results of this study conclude that the style of repetition in the story of Prophet Adam does not focus on only one form. There are three forms of repetition (uslub tikrar): the repetition of verses, sentences, and themes. Furthermore, exegetes explain that uslub tikrar in the story of Prophet Adam is not only for emphasis and beauty but also provides a variety of information to complete the story, which is still general in nature. The repetitive style of the story of Prophet Adam has relevant values for life in embodying the ideal human being, such as piety, introspection, commitment and responsibility, and avoiding arrogance.

Abstract

This study explores the contribution of Daud Ismail to the development of Quranic interpretation in the Bugis language through Tafsir Al-Munir. Using a descriptive-analytical method with a historical-critical approach, the research highlights how Anregurutta Daud Ismail contextualized the ijmali method with an adabi ijtimai style, aligning Quranic messages with Bugis traditions. The findings reveal three distinctive features: (1) the use of the Bugis language and lontarak script as a medium for preserving culture and preaching Islam; (2) the application of a moderate exegetical approach combining bi al-matsur and bi al-ray; and (3) a critical response to religious practices considered to diverge from Islamic teachings. Tafsir Al-Munir reflects a jurisprudential and communal outlook, affirming Daud Ismail’s role as a visionary scholar who connects generations. This study underscores the significance of local-language tafsir in enhancing Quranic understanding and reinforcing an Islamic identity that harmonizes with indigenous values.

Abstract

The global ecological crisis reflects a profound imbalance in the relationship between humanity and nature, which is no longer within a sacred and ethical framework. This phenomenon signifies a form of spiritual degradation in perceiving nature as a manifestation of divine creation. This study aims to examine the prophetic prohibition against cursing the wind through the lens of Islamic social ethics by analyzing relevant hadiths within the frameworks of hermeneutics and maqasid al-shariah. This study uses a qualitative approach based on library research and thematic content analysis to engage classical hadith texts, exegetical literature, and contemporary Islamic scholarship. The findings demonstrate that Islam articulates a framework of ecological ethics rooted in reverence, cosmic responsibility, and spiritual consciousness toward nature as a divine sign. These findings underscore the urgency of revitalizing Islamic ethical values as a normative critique of human-induced environmental degradation and as an ethical paradigm uniting faith, sustainability, and ecological civility.

Abstract

This article aims to examine and formulate the concept of maritime vocational education from a thematic-philosophical Qur’anic perspective. It responds to the lack of comprehensive approaches that integrate Qur’anic values with the needs of maritime vocational education. Using a qualitative method through library research, this study applies thematic exegesis and a normative-philosophical approach. The findings reveal that the Qur’an contains numerous references to the sea and its management, reflecting educational principles such as ecological responsibility, productive work, and fair, sustainable resource use. The study also formulates core philosophical values underlying maritime vocational education, including tawhid, justice, sustainability, integration of knowledge and action, and religious humanism. This conceptualization is proposed as a relevant educational model to develop maritime generations who are both technically competent and morally transformative. The findings offer a strategic alternative for developing vocational education rooted in divine revelation while being responsive to contemporary socio-ecological challenges.

Abstract

The rising body image crisis in the digital era has led to serious consequences, including mental health issues, low self-esteem, and self-harm, particularly among youth. In response to beauty standards shaped by popular culture, the body positivity movement promotes self-acceptance and appreciation of physical diversity. However, its secular framing often overlooks spiritual aspects. This study explores the Qur’anic perspective on body positivity and how its values can foster spiritually grounded self-acceptance. Using a qualitative approach and thematic interpretation, relevant verses are analyzed, focusing on those concerning human creation, the prohibition of body denunciation, and gratitude for one’s physical form. The findings suggest that the Qur’an regards the human body as a perfect creation, opposes physical discrimination, and prioritizes piety over appearance. It promotes self-love rooted in gratitude and spiritual responsibility. These insights reveal that Islam provides a comprehensive ethical foundation for body positivity, offering a more holistic alternative to secular discourse.

Abstract

The study of qiraat (variant Quranic readings) in classical exegesis is a significant aspect of Quranic studies, as differences in recitation can influence the interpretation of verses. This research explores how variations in qiraat found in classical tafsir manuscripts from the Middle East and the Malay-Indonesian archipelago (Nusantara) shape distinct exegetical patterns. Employing library research methods with philological and comparative approaches, this study analyzes several classical tafsir manuscripts, including Tafsir al-Qurtubi, Tafsir al-Tabari, Tafsir Tarjuman al-Mustafid, and Tafsir al-Ibriz. The findings reveal that qiraat not only create interpretive diversity but also influence the methodology of tafsir. Middle Eastern manuscripts tend to emphasize linguistic analysis and transmission chains (isnad), while Nusantara tafsir integrates qiraat with local cultural wisdom. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of qiraat-based interpretation and the intellectual transformation of Islamic scholarship across civilizations.

Abstract

The interpretation of the Qur'an in local languages is an effort to make Islamic teachings more easily understood by local communities. This study examines Tafsir Nurul Bajan by Moh. Romli and N.H.S. Midjaja, a Qur'anic exegesis written in the Sundanese language. The research aims to analyze its content, method of interpretation, and the Islamic values it contains, particularly within the Sundanese cultural context. Through a literature review, the study finds that this tafsir uses simple and easily understandable Sundanese. Its interpretation emphasizes ethics, sharia, Sufism, and moral messages relevant to daily life. The author also utilizes Sundanese proverbs and expressions to clarify the meaning of the verses. It is concluded that Tafsir Nurul Bajan is a significant example of local tafsir, demonstrating the vital role of Nusantara scholars in conveying Islamic teachings in a contextualized and grounded manner to their local communities.

Abstract

The discourse on al-Ahruf as-Sab'ah represents a pivotal theme in the study of Ulum al-Quran, particularly in relation to the diversity of recitations (qiraat) and Arabic dialects. This study aims to explore the existence of al-Ahruf as-Sab'ah within the frameworks of dialectology and qiraat, as well as its implications for Quranic interpretation and Islamic legal derivation. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through a literature review method, this research draws upon classical sources such as al-Itqan by al-Suyuti and Jami al-Bayan by al-Tabari, alongside relevant contemporary references. The analysis investigates the concept of ahruf, the historical development of qiraat, and their relationship to variations in Arabic lahjah. The findings suggest that the diversity of Quranic recitations is deeply rooted in the linguistic landscape of the time of revelation and that these variations significantly influence Quranic exegesis and the derivation of Islamic legal rulings (istinbat al-ahkam).
