Abstract

This study explores the role of local folklore as a medium for expressing social criticism, focusing on the folktales Wa Mangku and Wa Buliga from South Buton, Southeast Sulawesi. While previous studies often emphasize folklore’s cultural and educational value, limited attention has been given to its function in critiquing injustice. Using a qualitative descriptive method and a literary sociology approach, the research analyzes data obtained through document analysis and interviews with native informants from Burangasi Village. Thematic content analysis reveals various forms of social criticism, including environmental degradation, poverty, social stigma, abuse of power, spiritual manipulation, and unjust traditional practices. The Wa Mangku tale critiques authoritarian customs and societal passivity toward injustice, while Wa Buliga highlights slander, violence, and discrimination driven by collective prejudice. Both stories serve as cultural mirrors that reflect the lived experiences of marginalized individuals and the consequences of irrational tradition. The findings underscore folklore’s potential as a transformative educational tool for promoting social awareness and critical thinking. This research contributes to the discourse on oral literature as a means of fostering empathy, moral reflection, and civic consciousness within local communities.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Taliban's policies on Afghan women's access to education, employment, and public participation since their return to power in 2021. By conducting a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed articles, reports, and academic papers published between 2021 and 2024, the research identifies key barriers Afghan women face in these critical areas. The review draws data from several reputable databases including Google Scholar, JSTOR, Scopus, PubMed, and SpringerLink. The findings reveal significant setbacks in women's rights, with strict restrictions on education, limited employment opportunities, and reduced participation in public life. The analysis also highlights the broader socio-economic and psychological consequences of these policies, emphasizing the detrimental impact on Afghanistan's development and international relations. The study calls for targeted international interventions, humanitarian support, and policy changes to address the gender-based discrimination imposed by the Taliban. Recommendations include sanctions against Taliban leadership, expansion of scholarship programs for Afghan women, support for Afghan-led advocacy movements, and the establishment of economic empowerment initiatives. The findings underscore the importance of international solidarity in restoring Afghan women's rights and freedoms.

Abstract

This study explores the role of online universities in empowering women in Afghanistan, particularly focusing on the challenges and opportunities associated with digital education. Afghanistan, with its unique socio-political landscape, presents significant barriers to women's access to education, making online education a viable alternative. The purpose of this research is to assess the impact of online education on Afghan women's empowerment by examining their access to education, professional development, and digital literacy. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 150 female students from four faculties—Computer Science, Education, Economics, and Medicine—at an online university. The data were analyzed to determine the extent of online education’s contribution to empowering women in Afghanistan. Results indicate that online education has provided significant opportunities for professional development, though challenges such as limited internet access and digital literacy gaps remain. The study concludes that while online education plays a transformative role in empowering Afghan women, there is a critical need for improved internet infrastructure and digital literacy programs to maximize its impact.

Abstract

Differentiated learning has gained attention as an inclusive instructional strategy that adapts to diverse student needs. This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the impact of differentiated instruction on Social Studies learning outcomes among sixth-grade students at MIS Persiapan Negeri Namlea. Two groups were involved: an experimental group receiving differentiated instruction and a control group taught using conventional methods. Pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed to determine the effect of the intervention. Normality tests confirmed the appropriateness of parametric analysis, and an independent samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference in learning outcomes (p = 0.050). The findings suggest that differentiated instruction enhances student performance by allowing tailored content delivery and assessment. While both groups showed improvement, the experimental group demonstrated higher gains, indicating the effectiveness of personalized learning approaches in fostering academic growth. These results support the use of differentiated learning in elementary Social Studies instruction, especially in settings with varied student readiness and learning preferences. Further studies are recommended to explore long-term effects and its implementation across subjects and grade levels.

Abstract

The integration with the Internet of Things (IoT) technology with health systems shows a strong potential to re¬invent at least the developed areas of Afghanistan. The study is focused on the perceptions, challenges and willingness of the stakeholders to identify the potential benefits, barriers and strategies to implement IoT-based Health monitoring systems. So, this study uses a mixed-method research approach. A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted, with 150 possible participants (stakeholders), including healthcare professionals and computer scientists. The survey confirmed acquainting individuals with IoT, their perceived benefits of IoT, possible challenges and willingness of the participants to adopt IoT in the context mentioned above. Main data analyses included descriptive statistics, crosstabs and regression analysis results using the SPSS data processing software. The findings demonstrated that 73.33% of the respondents assumed IoT to improve health monitoring and about 80% showed willingness to adopt IoT. According to this study, the major challenges mentioned by respondents are lack of infrastructure, data security issues, and costs involved. It was identified that In the regression analysis (R²=0.82), benefit, familiarity, and awareness of IoT technology positively influenced willingness to adopt. Integration was supported by younger and better-educated people. As a result, we will consider gap closing the infrastructure, strengthening data security and raising awareness through direct educational campaigns as a priority area for ensuring the success of IoT adoption. The results of the study highlight aspects which may come handy for the policymakers and health care practitioners to facilitate its adoption in a cost-effective and culture-sensitive manner to address the health particularities of the developing nations.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Joyful Learning-based Wordwall media aimed at enhancing English learning outcomes among primary school students. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 60 participants, randomly divided into an experimental group that utilized Wordwall for interactive learning and a control group that engaged in traditional teaching methods over an eight-week period. Quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-intervention assessments measuring English proficiency, while qualitative data were gathered from student feedback via questionnaires and focus groups. The results indicated a significant improvement in English learning outcomes among the experimental group, with average scores increasing from 65.4 to 82.7, contrasted with a minor increase in the control group from 64.5 to 68.2. Qualitative feedback revealed that 85% of students found the Wordwall activities enjoyable and engaging, fostering greater participation and collaboration. These findings highlight the critical role of integrating technology-driven, gamified learning tools in primary education, not only to bolster academic performance but also to enhance student motivation and engagement. The study advocates for broader adoption of interactive educational technologies and ongoing teacher training to create enriching learning environments in language education.
