Abstract

This thesis deal with Deixis in Justin Bieber’s Song Lyrics. It explains about how deixis works in lyric of songs such as person deixis, time deixis and place deixis. The objective of analyzing the songs were to find out the types of deixis, the most dominant type of deixis and the reason of the most dominant type of deixis in the entire songs. In this thesis, the writer was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data analysis of this study was taken from album which consists of fourteen (14) titles. The result of this study showed that there were three (3) types of deixis in the album, they are person deixis, time deixis and place deixis. After analyzing the data, there are 834 data found with consist of 744 data (89,20%) indicating person deixis, 68 data (8,15%) indicating time deixis, and 22 data (2,65%) indicating place deixis. In this study the most dominant is person deixis with totally 744 data (89,20%).

Abstract

This study deals with “Code Mixing in Itsfiyawn If I Can’t”. This thesis was analyzed by using qualitative method and quantitative method which some references are searched that will be used as source books. The objective of this study is to know the types of code mixing, the most dominant type of code mixing and the reason of the most dominant type of code mixing at all of eighteen chapters. This study applies research based on qualitative and quantitative. The findings of this study shows that there are types of code mixing found based on the theory of Muysken. The study has been found that, there are 144 code mixing, consist of 98 occurrences for insertion (68,08%), 23 occurrences for alternation (15,96%), and 23 occurrences for congruent lexicalization (15,96%). Based on the analysis, it concludes that the most dominant type of code mixing is the insertion with 68,08% or 98 occurrences.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Based on readers’ perspective reading process is affected by reading habit and the attitude towards reading (Marpaung, M. 2021). Further, due to find the most related factor in second language reading habit, there were three factors compared of first language reading habit, attitude towards reading, and language proficiency, and it was found that language proficiency is mostly affected the second language reading habit (Marpaung, M. 2020). Therefore, there is a willing to know the contribution of reading habit and attitue towards reading in reading cognitive processes. And by administered the close interview it was found that reading habit and attitude towards reading affected cognitive model of reading in its term of schemata activation and handling new and difficult words, it was also mainly affected in finalizing the comprehension of doing concluding or summarizing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berupaya untuk meningkatkan kosa kata siswa melalui lagu Wiz Khalifa. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa jurusan sistem informasi di STIKOM MEDAN yang terdiri dari 30 siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, siklus I terdiri dari dua pertemuan dan siklus II terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data adalah data kuantitatif yaitu tes kosa kata dan data kualitatif yaitu, catatan harian, lembar observasi dan lembar kuesioner.Data kuantitatif, dapat dilihat dari data yang menunjukkan skor rata-rata siswa. Dalam pre-test nilai rata-rata adalah 62,93, dan persentase dalam pre-test adalah 13,33%. Pada post-test siklus I nilai rata rata adalah 68,13 dan persentasenya 20%. Pada post-test siklus II skor rata-rata adalah 76,53 dan persentasenya adalah 56,66%.Persentase siswa yang kompeten juga meningkat dari pra-tes hingga tes terakhir. Analisis data kualitatif dari catatan harian, observasi dan lembar kuesioner juga memberikan hasil yang mengindikasikan peningkatan dalam proses belajar mengajar dari siklus I hingga siklus II. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan lagu Wiz Khalifa dapat meningkatkan kosakata siswa.

Abstract

This researchentitled An Analysis of illocutionary Acts as Found in Jane Austen's Mansfield Parkwhich dealing with theexpressive illocutionary acts as the analysis of pragmatics on novel utterances. The objective of this analysis was to prove that the expressive illocutionary couldalso be applied in literature, especially to find out the types, the dominant types and the reason of the most dominantly expressive illocutionary act in Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park. This research was conducted by using qualitative and quantitative method. The data were taken from all the evenchapters in the novel. The result showed that there were 140 expressive illocutionary acts. They were found in the novel with the classification as follows: expressive for thanks 12 (8.58%), expressive for apologies 9 (6.43%), expressive for congratulations 16 (11.43 %), expressive for greetings 5 ​​(3.57%), expressive for wishes 30 (21.43%), expressive for attitudes 68 (48.57%). The most dominant classification of expressive illocutionary acts was expressives for attitudes68 (48.57%). The reason of this type of dominant expressive for attitudes in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park because it recounts the daily conversation and conveys what the author believes. It means that the author of the novel makes all the utterances in a novel based on assumptions, her feelings and her experiences, so all of the utterances are mostly used to criticize, denounce and complain expression for attitudes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini ini membahas tentang Process Types of Transitivity System in Adele’s Song Lyrics (Jenis Proses Sistem Transitivitas dalam Lirik Lagu Adele). Lagu-lagu Adele dipilih sebagai sumber data karena dipastikan bahwa lirik-lirik lagu tersebut mengandung Sistem Transitivitas. Analisisnya difokuskan pada jenis-jenis proses dalam Sistem Transitivitas, jenis proses yang paling dominan dan alasan terjadinya jenis proses yang dominan di dalam lirik lagu Adele. Jenis proses Sistem Transitivitas dalam lagu-lagu tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori Gerot dan Wignel. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan rancangan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada enam (6) jenis proses Sistem Transitivitas yang ditemukan dalam lirik lagu Adele, yaitu Proses Material, Mental, Verbal, Behavioral, Eksistensial dan Relasional

Abstract

The goal of this study is to analyze the meaning of symbol from dance movements used in Karonese traditional wedding ceremony. The object of the research is the dance movements of the the bride and groom in Karonese traditional wedding ceremony.The analysis shows that the structure of the landek kerja perjabuun consists of endek (knee ups and downs movement), pengodak/odak (bodymovements) and ole or jole jemolah jemole ( hands and fingers movement). The functions of landek in the kerja perjabuun are to ratifycation social institutions, to implement norms in society, to mark the implementation of the marriage ceremony, to signify social status, to show traditional communication, and cultural continuity. The meaning of landek in kerja perjabuun is as symbolic blessing (blessing prayer) to the bride, as a connector to family relationship, respect for the presence of a person in kindship group, learning of Karo traditional norms, prestige for Karo people, an expression of excitement for the family releasing daughter who will go to other families (farewell) and show the tribal existence.

Abstract

This study focused on the aspects of modern linguistics in Toba Batak traditional wedding ceremony. The problems of the study (1) what aspects of modern linguistics anthropology are found in Toba Batak traditional wedding ceremony? (2) how are the aspects of modern linguistics anthropology interconnected in Toba Batak traditional wedding ceremony?. This study found that (1) there were three aspects of modern linguistics anthropology in Toba Batak traditional wedding ceremony; they were performance, indexicality and participation. (2) The three aspects found in Toba Batak traditional wedding ceremony were inseparable because they were interrelated strongly one another.

Abstract

The problems lies in this study are (1) how is the attitude towards reading of English Department students in Darma Agung University? (2) How is the attitude towards reading of English Department students in University of Darma Agung by the factors of (a) sex, (b) class type, (c) father’s education level, (d) mother’s education level, and (e) financial income level? After administered questionnaire of attitude towards reading by Gomleksiz (2004) to 46 students of English Department in Darma Agung University, there are findings found. First, the attitude towards reading of English Department students in Darma Agung University is mere positive for the average score of the 46 students is 143, 5 by the condition of the highest score is 172 and the lowest score is 111. Second, personal attributes and environmental factors are determine differences, the male students is mere positive in attitude towards reading by the average score of 145,4 than the female students by the average score of 142,6. In Class types, morning class students are having mere positive attitude towards reading by the average score of 147 than the evening class by the average score of 138,4. Fathers’ and mothers’ education level is also determining differences. However, mothers’ education level is affect linearly to the students attitude towards reading; the higher the mothers’ education level the mere positive the students’ attitude towards reading, but fathers’ education level is not affect the students attitude towards reading linearly. The last of the environmental factors, financial income level is linearly affect the students’ attitude towards reading; the higher the students’ financial income level the mere positive their attitude towards reading.

Abstract

This study deals with the effect of prediction strategy to the students’ reading ability.The objectives of this study is to find out where the prediction strategy significantly effective to the student’ reading ability especially in descriptive text.the population of this study were tenth grade of smanegeri 2 siborongborong in academic year 2018/2019 which consist of 350 students .the sample of tis study were 34 students which devided into two groups that is control group and Experimental group.where incontrol group there were 17 students taught without using prediction strategy and in experimrntal group there is 17 students taught with prediction strategy.the instrument for collecting the data was used descriptive text which consist of 20 numbers and each number has five option there were a,b,c,d,ore.after collecting the data the score of pre test and post test from control group and experimental group were different.where there was a significant improvement between both of groups.Where before applying the prediction strategy the mean of the students’ score are 50 but after applying prediction strategy the mean of the students’ score are 80 from the score above there was a significant effect of prediction strategy to the students’ reading ability .
