Abstract

Background: The plant known as papaya leaf (Carica papaya L) is a plant that commonly grows in tropical areas and is often used by local residents as an alternative treatment method to prevent bacterial growth because papaya leaves (Carica papaya L) have a number of pharmacological properties , one of which is the ability to kill Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The aim of this research was to find out whether papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L) could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and whether papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L) had antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Method: This study tested the ethanol extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L) against Staphhylococcus aureus bacteria using experimental laboratory methods. The collected data was analyzed using nonparametric statistical analysis known as ANOVA. Results: According to the results of phytochemical research, papaya leaves (Carica papaya L) contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids and tannins. In papaya leaf extract which was tested against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, there was an effective inhibitory power of papaya leaf ethanol extract with concentrations of 25%, 50% and 75%, with a concentration of 25% obtained an average inhibition zone of 6.2 mm, a concentration of 50% obtained an inhibition zone. an average of 6.7 mm and a concentration of 75% obtained an average inhibition zone of 7.8 mm. Conclusion: Antibacterial studies of Staphylococcus aureus reveal that papaya leaf extract has a growth inhibitory effect on this bacteria. As the leaf extract concentration increases, a larger zone of inhibition is formed.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) complaints that are often felt by almost all populations in the world are low back pain (LBP) complaints. Workers experience several risk factors: work posture, service length, and smoking habits. Squatting, standing, and sitting positions that are not ergonomic can cause the body to tire easily, causing musculoskeletal muscle disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between work position, working period and smoking habit with low back pain complaints among shipyard workers in the welding section at PT X Batam City in 2023. This research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study were 110 welding shipyard workers (welder) with a sample size of 86 people (solving formula). The research instruments used were questionnaires and RULA worksheets. The sampling technique used was Simple Random Sampling. The statistical test used is a program on a computer where two kinds of data analysis will be carried out, namely univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. The statistical test results show a significant relationship between work posture and low back pain complaints, namely p-value = 0.000 and Pearson correlation = 0.871. There is a significant relationship between the working period with low back pain complaints, namely value = 0.000 and Pearson correlation = 0.490 & there is a significant relationship between smoking habits with low back pain complaints, namely value = 0.015 & pearson correlation = 0.261. There is a relationship between work posture, work period and smoking habits with low back pain complaints with a p-value <0.05. As for the suggestions in this study, for work postures, work station design can be carried out according to the welded products, while the working period for workers with high working periods can be limited to the number of working hours and to reduce smoking habits, the implementation of no smoking in the work environment area and appreciation for workers who do not smoke and proven good medical check-up results..

Abstract

Strenuous exercise can trigger an increase in pulse rate and lactic acid levels. Stress during exercise can secrete adrenaline so that your heart rate increases, and free radicals including lactic acid. This study aims to determine the effect of light and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on lactic acid levels and pulse rate during exercise. The research carried out was a quasi-experimental research with a non-random repeat experiment design. Pulse rate and lactic acid levels were assessed before and after the exercise program in 3 groups, namely the light-intensity aerobic exercise (LAIR) treatment group, the moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (LAIS) group, and the control group. The research location is the Harapan Bangsa football stadium in Banda Aceh. The subject is Aceh Diaspora PPLP athlete. The training program was carried out for four weeks. The mean pulse rate and lactic acid levels of the three groups showed differences. A significant decrease in heart rate values after the training test was seen in the group with LAIS (p = 0.000). A significant decrease in lactic acid after the training test was seen in the group with LAIS (p= 0.04). The mean pulse rate of the three groups showed differences. An exercise program carried out with the right intensity, duration, and frequency can reduce increases in heart rate and lactic acid levels. This research shows that moderate-intensity aerobic exercise can reduce pulse rate and lactic acid levels so that it can slow down fatigue during exercise in Acehnese football athletes.

Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease resulting from the destruction of joint cartilage to the formation of subchondral bone and osteophytes that cause pain in the joints. According to WHO, the prevalence of OA in Southeast Asia in 2004 reached 27.4 million people. One of the metabolic disorders that is thought to be a risk factor for OA progressivity is Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Indonesia has the fourth largest number of DM patients with a prevalence of 8.6% of the total population. Current evaluation of OA is based on clinical and radiographic examinations such as X-ray, MRI, CT etc. The Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) system is a validated method to classify the severity of OA into 5 levels. Objective: To determine the relationship between DM and the severity of genu OA based on X-ray photographs at Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Methods: This study used a cross sectional design. The data obtained will then be processed and analyzed with the Chi-Square test, Fisher Exact test, or Kruskal-Wallis test using a data processing program. Results: It was found that DM patients with right genu OA location amounted to 29 people (39.7%), left amounted to 13 people (17.8%), and both amounted to 31 people (42.5%). DM patients with grade 1 severity amounted to 6 people (8.2%), grade 2 amounted to 18 people (24.7%), grade 3 amounted to 25 people (34.2%), and grade 4 amounted to 24 people (32.9%). The results of the Chi-Square test found that there was a significant relationship between DM and the severity of genu OA (p<0.001). Based on Kruskal-Wallis test, there was no significant relationship between DM comorbidity and genu OA severity (p=0.636) and there was no significant relationship between OA severity and HbA1c (p=0.408). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between DM and the severity of genu OA based on X-ray photos at Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan.

Abstract

Desert plants are renowned for their ability to thrive in extreme environments characterized by limited water availability, high temperatures, and intense solar radiation. This paper explores the diverse adaptations that enable these plants to survive in such challenging conditions. Physiological adaptations, including water-use efficiency through CAM and C4 photosynthesis, along with morphological features such as reduced leaves and specialized root systems, play crucial roles in water conservation and heat tolerance. Behavioral adaptations, such as rapid germination and seed production following rainfall, further enhance their resilience. Understanding these adaptations not only illuminates the remarkable strategies of desert flora but also holds implications for ecological conservation and sustainable agriculture in arid regions.
