Journal of Educational Management Research is an international peer-reviewed journal which publishes original and significant contributions to educational management, administration, and leadership, in its broadest sense, from all over the world. This includes primary research projects in schools and further vocational and higher education institutions. This journal encourages contributions that respond to important issues in management education. Contributions may be either conceptual or empirical and are welcomed from any topic area and country so long as they primarily focus on management or organization in education. Although our core areas of interest are organizational behaviour and management in education, we are also interested in leadership, public relation, human resource management, social issues in management, financial management, organizational development, critical management studies, etc. Authors are strongly encouraged to have their work reviewed and evaluated by their colleagues prior to submission for formal editorial review.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) utilisation, marketing creativity, and response speed on the marketing performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bangka Belitung Province, with customer experience positioned as a mediating variable. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to MSMEs actively engaged in digital marketing practices. The data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to test the proposed relationships. The findings indicate that marketing creativity and response speed have a significant positive effect on customer experience, whereas AI utilisation does not show a significant effect on customer experience. Furthermore, customer experience significantly influences marketing performance and serves as a mediating variable in the relationship between marketing creativity, response speed, and marketing performance. Specifically, marketing creativity and response speed contribute both directly and indirectly to improved marketing performance through enhanced customer experience. These results provide important theoretical contributions to digital marketing and customer experience literature, while offering practical implications for MSME managers and educational institutions in designing technology-oriented marketing strategies and entrepreneurship learning that prioritise creativity, responsiveness, and customer-centred approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the work environment and human capital on employee performance. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. Data were collected through structured questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling, involving 47 respondents. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine both simultaneous and partial effects of the independent variables on employee performance. The results indicate that the work environment and human capital simultaneously have a significant effect on employee performance. Partially, both the work environment and human capital individually show a significant positive effect on employee performance. The coefficient of determination reveals that 75.6% of the variation in employee performance is explained by the work environment and human capital, while the remaining 24.4% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. The findings imply that organizations should prioritize creating a supportive work environment and strengthening human capital development to enhance employee performance. Strategic policies related to workplace conditions and employee competencies are essential to achieve optimal organizational outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of communication and commitment on employee performance. A quantitative approach with a saturated sampling technique was employed, involving 60 employees as respondents. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that communication and commitment simultaneously have a significant effect on employee performance. Individually, both communication and commitment also show a significant positive effect. The coefficient of determination (R²) obtained is 0.825, indicating that 82.5% of the variance in employee performance is explained by communication and commitment, while the remaining 17.5% is influenced by other factors such as motivation, ability, and work environment. These findings suggest that enhancing communication and strengthening employee commitment are critical strategies for improving overall employee performance. Organizations should prioritize effective communication channels and initiatives that foster employee dedication and engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the partial and simultaneous effects of transformational leadership, communication, and work motivation on teacher performance in primary education. A quantitative research approach using a survey design was applied, involving all 33 teachers as respondents. Data were analyzed using SPSS through validity and reliability testing, classical assumption testing, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing with t-tests and F-tests. The findings show that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance, highlighting the importance of effective leadership practices in supporting instructional quality and professional outcomes. In contrast, communication and work motivation do not demonstrate significant partial effects on teacher performance when examined independently. However, when tested simultaneously, transformational leadership, communication, and work motivation collectively exert a significant influence on teacher performance. These results suggest that transformational leadership is the most dominant factor in enhancing teacher performance. Therefore, school management should prioritize leadership development while strengthening communication systems and motivational strategies for performance improvement.

Abstract

The culture of teacher professionalism is a crucial factor in improving educational quality, as it reflects teachers’ commitment, responsibility, and continuous professional development. This study aims to examine the strategies employed by school principals in fostering a culture of professionalism among teachers. A qualitative research approach with a descriptive design was used to explore leadership practices and their influence on professional culture. Data were collected through observations of leadership practices and professional activities, in-depth interviews with the principal and teachers, and documentation analysis of school programs and organizational records. The findings reveal that principals enhance teacher professionalism through structured coaching, role modeling, supervision, professional development programs, and the cultivation of collaborative work environments. These strategies contribute to increased teacher discipline, professional responsibility, and engagement in continuous improvement. The study implies that effective principal leadership plays a central role in shaping a sustainable culture of teacher professionalism. Therefore, school leaders are encouraged to adopt strategic, participatory, and consistent leadership practices to strengthen professional culture and support long-term educational quality improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze leadership strategies in managing student organizations within Islamic boarding school contexts, focusing on planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision, as well as identifying supporting and inhibiting factors. A qualitative field study approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed interactively using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that leadership strategies are implemented through a participatory approach, characterized by clear role distribution, structured guidance, and educational evaluation mechanisms. These strategies contribute significantly to improving student discipline, independence, and overall organizational effectiveness. Supporting factors include strong leadership commitment and continuous supervision, while inhibiting factors involve limited managerial experience among student officers and tightly scheduled institutional activities. The study implies that effective student organizational governance requires structured mentoring, systematic leadership training for student officers, and continuous evaluation systems. These elements are essential to strengthening organizational capacity and fostering sustainable student leadership development within faith-based educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the leadership management of a madrasah principal in improving teacher performance. A qualitative approach with a descriptive method was employed. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the madrasah principal and teachers as research participants. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the principal’s leadership management is implemented through four main managerial functions: planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision. Supporting factors include effective collaboration among school members and strong teacher commitment, whereas inhibiting factors consist of low discipline among some teachers, limited facilities and infrastructure, and insufficient motivation for professional self-development. To address these challenges, the principal applies several strategies, such as strengthening communication, conducting academic supervision and guidance, providing motivation, and involving teachers in decision-making processes. This study implies that effective leadership management plays a crucial role in enhancing teacher performance and can serve as a reference for improving leadership practices in madrasah education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of students’ soft skills on academic outcomes, with internship performance serving as a mediating variable. The research addresses the increasing importance of soft skills in higher education, particularly as artificial intelligence reshapes learning environments and demands for both analytical and interpersonal competencies. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data. A total of 113 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, who completed internships during 2024–2025, participated in this study by completing structured questionnaires. The results reveal that soft skill dimensions conceptual/analytical ability, teamwork, and information application have a significant positive effect on academic outcomes. Additionally, overall internship performance significantly mediates the relationship between soft skills and academic achievement. These findings suggest that internships not only prepare students for careers but also serve as a critical experiential learning mechanism that enhances academic engagement and performance. The study contributes to educational management by highlighting the role of internship experiences in bridging skill development and academic success, offering practical guidance for curriculum design and experiential learning programs.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia play a pivotal role in shaping students' character and moral values, especially in the face of globalization and societal shifts. This study explores the process of internalizing Islamic values at Al Ghozali Islamic Boarding School in Bogor, focusing on its systematic approach to character education. The research identifies three main stages of value internalization: value transformation, value transaction, and value transinternalization, which collectively contribute to the development of disciplined and responsible students. The study employs a qualitative research design, using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to collect primary data. The findings indicate that the integration of formal and non-formal education, coupled with role modeling by caregivers, plays a crucial role in instilling values such as discipline, responsibility, and sincerity. This research contributes to the field of character education by demonstrating the practical implementation of value internalization in pesantren and provides insights for improving character education programs in other educational settings. The study also highlights the challenges of adapting traditional methods in the modern digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of funding strategies and meaningful youth participation on the effectiveness of community empowerment programs, with strategic partnerships serving as a mediating variable within Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). A quantitative research design was employed using a survey method. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms to leaders of NGOs that are legally registered as foundations and associations. A total of 50 NGOs were selected using purposive and multistage sampling techniques. The collected data were analyzed using path analysis with Smart-PLS version 4.6.1.1. The findings indicate that funding strategy has a significant positive effect on strategic partnerships, whereas meaningful youth participation does not significantly influence strategic partnerships. Strategic partnerships are also found to have no significant effect on the effectiveness of community empowerment programs. Furthermore, funding strategy does not have a significant direct effect on program effectiveness, while meaningful youth participation shows a significant positive effect. The mediation analysis reveals that strategic partnerships do not mediate the relationship between funding strategy and program effectiveness, nor between meaningful youth participation and program effectiveness. These findings imply that the effectiveness of community empowerment programs is more strongly influenced by the substantive involvement of youth than by funding mechanisms or formal partnerships alone. For practitioners and policymakers, the study highlights the importance of designing empowerment programs that prioritize meaningful youth engagement, while ensuring that funding strategies and partnerships are aligned with programmatic goals rather than treated as stand-alone managerial instruments.
