Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in English reading instruction for eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Kota Bengkulu, focusing on instructional practices, student engagement, assessment, and contextual challenges. The study addresses the ongoing issue of teacher-centered reading instruction in EFL classrooms, which often limits students’ engagement and higher-order comprehension skills. A qualitative descriptive case study design was employed to obtain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with two English teachers and selected eleventh-grade students, and document analysis of lesson plans, reading materials, student projects, and assessment instruments. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis following the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that PjBL was implemented through structured stages, including contextual problem introduction, guided reading, collaborative discussion, project construction, and assessment. The approach enhanced students’ reading engagement, comprehension, and ability to synthesize textual information into meaningful products. Reading activities became more purposeful and contextualized, fostering collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. However, challenges related to limited instructional time, variation in students’ reading proficiency, and the absence of comprehensive assessment rubrics were also identified. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning can effectively transform reading instruction into a student-centered and meaningful learning process when supported by careful instructional planning and appropriate assessment strategies. These findings contribute to EFL pedagogy by providing contextual insights into PjBL implementation and offer implications for teaching practice and future research in reading instruction

Abstract

This study aims to examine developments and empirical findings related to the influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) through a literature review. Data were obtained from 30 scientific journal published between 2021 and 2025 and collected through a systematic search using Google Scholar with the help of the Publish or Perish application. A literature review with descriptive analysis was conducted to identify research trends, the most frequently used variables, and patterns in previous empirical findings. The results indicate that most studies report ESG as having an influence on financial performance, firm performance, firm value, profitability, and earnings management. Specifically, 70% of the reviewed studies documented a significant effect of ESG, while 30% reported insignificant results. Financial performance emerged as the most frequently examined dependent variable, followed by firm performance and firm value. These findings suggest that ESG is increasingly viewed as a crucial factor in supporting business sustainability and enhancing investor confidence. Nevertheless, variations in empirical results indicate opportunities for future research to further explore contextual factors that may strengthen or weaken the influence of ESG.

Abstract

The selection of a study specialization is an important decision for students, as it influences the development of academic competencies and future career paths. However, the process of choosing a specialization is often conducted subjectively and does not systematically consider multiple criteria. This study aims to design and implement a Decision Support System (DSS) for selecting a study specialization using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The AHP method is applied to address multicriteria decision-making problems by constructing a hierarchical structure, performing pairwise comparisons among criteria, and determining the priority weights of each alternative. The criteria used in this study include academic performance, career prospects, and the quality of supporting lecturers. The results indicate that the application of the AHP method is able to provide objective and consistent recommendations for study specializations based on the highest priority values. Thus, the developed decision support system can assist students in determining the study specialization that best aligns with their abilities and interests.

Abstract

This study employed a descriptive method, which was considered appropriate for describing the current condition of the research subjects. Descriptive research involves collecting data to test hypotheses or to answer questions regarding the present status of the subject under investigation. The population of this study consisted of all first-semester students in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was selected using a total sampling technique, in which the sample was taken in groups. The study involved several classes of STIE-SAK students, namely classes 1M1, 1M2, 1M3, and 1M4, each consisting of 36 students. However, the researcher selected one class as the research subject. To collect the data, the researcher used an observation instrument measuring students’ speaking anxiety in delivering speeches in Indonesian. The observation sheet was completed by the students based on their own responses. Based on the analysis results, it was concluded that, in general, students’ speaking anxiety in delivering speeches in Indonesian showed a negative outcome. The response distribution was as follows: 93 (strongly agree), 138 (agree), 125 (undecided), 116 (disagree), and 23 (strongly disagree). The results were then categorized into positive and negative responses. Positive responses included “strongly agree” and “agree,” totaling 231 responses, while negative responses included “undecided,” “disagree,” and “strongly disagree,” totaling 261 responses. Therefore, it can be concluded that students experience difficulties related to speaking anxiety in delivering speeches.

Abstract

This study aims to explore teachers’ and principals’ perceptions of the performance of School Administrative Staff (TAS) at UPT SDN 106 Manangalu, Kecamatan Burau, as well as to identify the key factors influencing these perceptions. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. A total of 21 respondents, consisting of teachers and the principal, participated in the study. Data analysis referred to Robbins and Judge’s (2019) theory of perception and Bernardin and Russell’s (2013) performance theory, covering five main aspects: quality of administrative services, discipline and attendance, communication and teamwork, use of information technology, and work effectiveness. The findings indicate that teachers’ and principals’ perceptions of TAS performance are generally in the good to very good category. The highest score was recorded in the quality of administrative services (average 3.51 or 87.75%), while the lowest was in the use of information technology (3.00 or 75%) and work effectiveness (3.01 or 75.25%). The most influential factors shaping positive perceptions are effective communication and teamwork, mastery of information technology, and overall work effectiveness in supporting school operations. In conclusion, TAS are perceived to perform their administrative duties well, showing discipline and professionalism. However, improvements are still needed in time discipline, digital technology utilization, and initiative in task completion. This research is expected to provide valuable insights for schools and policymakers in enhancing TAS performance to better meet the demands of school administration in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by disaster risk management based on disaster-resilient villages in the Pesisir Selatan district. The study aims to understand how the Destana community and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) manage disaster risks in Pesisir Selatan. This research uses a qualitative method that describes the results of community-based disaster risk management in Pesisir Selatan, including the challenges and efforts in managing disaster risks. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The results indicate that disaster risk management in Pesisir Selatan emphasizes that the effectiveness of disaster response heavily relies on systematic communication and education for the community. Through the Disaster-Resilient Village program, this strategic approach not only builds community capacity to face disaster risks but also strengthens collaboration between the government and related agencies. The award from BNPB to Painan Selatan demonstrates the positive potential of this program. Additionally, the use of social media for communication and coordination between BPBD and disaster-resilient villages allows the community to remain vigilant against potential threats. The establishment of disaster- resilient village communities also requires active participation from all layers of society in organization and decision-making, reflecting that disaster risk reduction is a shared responsibility, not just the government’s. However, there are still challenges faced by the local government, including budget shortages, community understanding, and a lack of resources in the regional disaster management agency. Nevertheless, the government has made several efforts, including allocating village budgets, advocating, and continuously providing education to the community.

Abstract

This article presents a comparative analysis of popular sovereignty concepts from three major perspectives: Western political theory, Indonesian constitution, and Islamic law, examining their application amid contemporary democratic challenges in Indonesia. Employing a systematic qualitative-comparative approach with explicit analytical frameworks, this study delineates philosophical foundations, legitimacy sources, implementation mechanisms, and power limitations inherent to each perspective. Findings reveal that Indonesian popular sovereignty represents a unique Pancasila-based synthesis dialoguing with Western liberal traditions and Islamic principles. However, empirical evidence demonstrates fundamental challenges including pervasive oligarchy (wealth defense mechanisms), systemic corruption, identity politics mobilization, and disinformation campaigns collectively threatening democratic quality as measured by Diamond's eight dimensions. This article argues that Islamic legal principles, when interpreted progressively and contextually, can offer robust ethical frameworks to address these distortions through internalization of Islamic ethics in democratic praxis rather than sharia formalization. These findings contribute original insights by integrating sovereignty analysis with contemporary democratic challenges through an Islamic lens, filling significant gaps in comparative political theory literature.

Abstract

Holistic education is an educational approach oriented toward the comprehensive development of students through the integration of intellectual, socio-emotional, moral, physical, and spiritual dimensions. This article aims to analyze the concept of holistic education from an Islamic perspective and its relevance in addressing educational challenges in the digital era. The study employed a qualitative approach through a literature review, utilizing the tahlili (analytical) method of hadith analysis and content analysis of relevant literature. The focus of the study is on the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that emphasize the integration of faith, knowledge, moral character, and social responsibility, such as the hadith on the perfection of faith measured by moral conduct, the obligation to seek knowledge, the value of social benefit, and the prophetic mission to perfect noble character. The findings indicate that Islamic education normatively emphasizes the formation of the insan kamil (the complete human being), characterized by a balance of intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and social intelligence. This concept aligns with the principles of holistic education, which position students as active subjects in a comprehensive developmental process. In the context of the digital era marked by technological advancement, robotization, and automation holistic education represents a strategic approach, as it not only equips students with 21st-century knowledge and skills but also strengthens moral values, character formation, and social responsibility. Although its implementation faces challenges, including resistance to paradigm shifts in education and unequal access to technology, the use of digital technology, distance learning, and collaboration between education and industry offers significant opportunities to reinforce sustainable and inclusive holistic education.

Abstract

Students’ mental health has increasingly declined due to the pressures of modern education, necessitating mindfulness-based interventions such as Anapanasati from the Buddhist tradition. This study aims to explore the role of Anapanasati in enhancing mental and emotional well-being. Employing a descriptive phenomenological qualitative approach, the population consisted of Anapanasati practitioners at Institut Nalanda, with three key informants selected through purposive sampling (Ko Maja, Ko Hendri, and Bu Metta). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Moustakas’ phenomenological procedures, including epoche, horizontalization, and thematic analysis. The findings revealed four major themes: managing life stress, developing personal potential, improving academic and professional performance, and fostering social contribution. Anapanasati practice was found to cultivate self-awareness and enhance emotional regulation. The study concludes that Anapanasati is an effective holistic intervention within Buddhist religious education and is recommended for integration into school programs to promote students’ well-being.
