Abstract

This research explores the use of representative speech acts as a means of portraying social and cultural realities in the film Almanya-Willkommen in Deutschland. Referring to Searle’s theory of speech acts, the study seeks to examine the forms, communicative functions, and illocutionary forces of representative utterances expressed by the characters. The study applies a qualitative descriptive design. Data were obtained through careful observation and transcription of selected dialogues, which were then analyzed from a pragmatic perspective. The analysis shows that representative speech acts in the film are employed to convey historical facts, describe social circumstances, affirm cultural identities, clarify traditions, and provide reasons for particular experiences. Through these utterances, the speakers demonstrate their commitment to the truth of what is stated, which constitutes a central feature of representative acts. At the same time, the film presents migration experiences and identity negotiation processes through statements that reflect both personal and collective realities. The findings suggest that representative speech acts in the film do more than communicate factual information. They also contribute to the construction of meaning related to belonging, cultural continuity, and intercultural interaction across generations. In this way, representative speech acts function as an important pragmatic device in shaping how social and cultural realities are expressed and understood within the narrative.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of character education in Adiwiyata schools through a case study at SDN Cendono I and SDN Sumberejo I, Pasuruan Regency. Character education has become a strategic national agenda in Indonesia to respond to moral degradation, the erosion of social solidarity, and the weakening of environmental awareness among elementary school students. Using a descriptive qualitative case study design, data were collected through in‑depth interviews with principals, teachers, and students, participant observation of school routines and Adiwiyata activities, and documentation analysis of school policies and supporting instruments. The data were analyzed using interactive techniques of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with triangulation across sources and techniques to enhance validity. The findings show that character education has been integrated into school culture, classroom learning, and environmentally based co‑curricular programs, particularly in strengthening environmental care, discipline, and responsibility. Supporting factors include strong principal leadership, teacher commitment, active parental involvement, and the availability of Adiwiyata facilities, while inhibiting factors relate to limited resources, inconsistent student participation, and varying levels of community support. Overall, the implementation of character education in both Adiwiyata schools is categorized as effective, but still requires strengthening in systematic evaluation mechanisms, documentation of character outcomes, and collaboration with external stakeholders to ensure sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the reflection of identity and death through symbolism in the short story Kayu Nisan Terakhir. The research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method, through structural and semiotic readings of narrative elements and the network of symbols within the text. The findings reveal that the themes of identity and death form the central framework of meaning, which is integratively expressed through symbols such as the gravestone, burial space, and silence. These symbols do not stand independently but are interconnected in constructing an existential reflection on human mortality and the limitations of social identity. Death is represented as a universal inevitability that dissolves the boundaries of worldly identity while simultaneously evoking both tranquility and emptiness. The structural relationship between theme and symbolism produces a unified, profound, and reflective meaning. Thus, the short story demonstrates how symbolism functions as both an aesthetic and philosophical device in constructing meanings about life and death.

Abstract

This study explores the use of the metaphor “knowledge rooted in the heart” in a speech delivered by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, at Pondok Pesantren Amanatul Ummah. Employing a pragmatic approach, the article examines how the metaphor functions within its communicative setting, what is being emphasized, how the message is oriented toward the audience, and which values are legitimized through specific linguistic choices. The phrase “knowledge in the heart” is interpreted not merely as a poetic expression, but as an insistence on the internalization of values in the educational process. From a pragmatic standpoint, the utterance carries normative force, inviting, advising, and reaffirming that knowledge should not remain confined to cognitive achievement but should develop into character. In another part of the speech, references to technology and artificial intelligence articulate a critical position, namely that technology should be mastered while human beings must remain in control rather than becoming dependent on it. The formulation of three qualities, knowledgeable, capable, and humble, signals an effort to integrate intellectual competence, practical skills, and moral integrity within a unified educational framework. The findings suggest that metaphor operates as a rhetorical device that strengthens moral messages, fosters emotional engagement with the audience, and underscores an educational orientation centered on cultivating knowledgeable and virtuous individuals. Therefore, the discourse functions not only informatively but also persuasively and ideologically in shaping a vision of future generations.

Abstract

The expansion of social commerce has reshaped consumer decision-making, particularly among Generation Z as digital natives who are highly engaged with social media platforms. TikTok Shop integrates entertainment, social interaction, and instant purchasing features that may intensify psychological stimuli such as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), thereby encouraging impulsive buying behavior. This study investigates the level of FOMO and impulsive buying among Generation Z students at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Tasikmalaya who use TikTok Shop, and empirically examines the effect of FOMO on impulsive buying behavior. Employing a quantitative descriptive-verificative design, data were collected through structured questionnaires from 339 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Simple linear regression analysis was applied to test the proposed hypothesis. The findings reveal that Fear of Missing Out has a positive and statistically significant effect on impulsive buying behavior among Generation Z TikTok Shop users. This indicates that psychological concerns related to social exclusion and trend avoidance play a critical role in accelerating unplanned purchasing decisions within digital commerce environments. The study contributes empirical evidence to consumer behavior research in social commerce contexts and highlights the importance of understanding psychological drivers in shaping responsible consumption and effective digital marketing strategies.

Abstract

The Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump (LRVP) is an important component in geothermal power plant systems that functions to extract non-condensable gases (NCG) such as H₂S, CO₂, and N₂ in order to maintain optimal condensation processes in the power generation system. One of the common problems occurring in pump systems is shaft misalignment, which can lead to increased vibration, temperature, and accelerated damage to components such as bearings and couplings. This study aims to analyze the alignment condition of the LRVP pump shaft using the laser alignment method as part of condition monitoring activities in the maintenance system at PT Supreme Energy Muara Laboh. The research method was carried out by measuring shaft alignment using a laser alignment device installed on the coupling between the motor, gearbox, and pump. The measurement data were then analyzed by comparing the alignment values with the tolerance limits specified by the equipment manufacturer. The results indicate that shaft misalignment can be caused by several factors such as installation errors, unstable foundations, operational vibrations, and inadequate maintenance of pump components. Misalignment that exceeds the tolerance limits may increase vibration and temperature, which can lead to damage to bearings and other mechanical components. Therefore, periodic monitoring and shaft alignment using the laser alignment method are essential to maintain pump performance and improve the operational reliability of geothermal power plant systems.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of the Turbine Governing System in a 100 MW steam turbine in maintaining power system frequency stability through the regulation of the steam chest, governor valve, and Emergency Stop Valve (ESV) under load variations of ±10% from the nominal power. The research employs a descriptive quantitative approach based on literature studies, supported by dynamic modeling and system response simulations under a droop configuration of 4–5%. The results show that a 10% load increase causes an initial frequency deviation of 0.18–0.22 Hz from the nominal 50 Hz, with an initial governor valve response time of 0.25–0.35 seconds and a settling time of 4–6 seconds, which remain within the standard operational limits of power systems. A 4% droop configuration produces a faster frequency response but with greater power overshoot (5–6%), while a 5% droop configuration provides better power stability with lower overshoot (3–4%), indicating a trade-off between response speed and system stability. The steam chest dynamic analysis reveals that an increase in the steam pressure time constant can slow frequency recovery by up to 18–22%. Under extreme disturbance conditions, the ESV is capable of closing within 0.15–0.20 seconds, effectively preventing turbine overspeed. These findings highlight that frequency stability is determined not only by the generating capacity of the power plant but also by the quality of dynamic response and the integrated coordination among the steam chest, governor valve, and ESV. This coordination becomes increasingly strategic in supporting the flexibility and reliability of power systems amid the growing penetration of renewable energy.
