Abstract

The increasing use of interest-based financial products (riba) among students has become a growing concern, particularly with the proliferation of online lending platforms, buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) schemes, and consumerist lifestyles promoted through social media. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) values in fostering anti-riba awareness among students and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing its effectiveness. The research employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, beginning with a quantitative phase followed by a qualitative phase to gain deeper insights into the findings. The quantitative sample consisted of 240 senior high school and Islamic senior high school students in Jambi, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire (Cronbach’s α = 0.87) and semi-structured interview guides administered to six Islamic Religious Education teachers and twelve students. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 and NVivo 14, respectively. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between the implementation of Islamic Religious Education values and students’ anti-riba awareness (r = 0.684, p < 0.01). Thematic analysis identified three main strategies: (1) cognitive-spiritual internalization through the integration of Qur’anic verses, Hadith, and contemporary Islamic legal opinions (fatwas); (2) affective role modeling and the establishment of a consistent school culture; and (3) contextual practices based on Islamic financial literacy and project-based learning activities. These findings demonstrate that a holistic and integrated Islamic Religious Education approach is effective in fostering anti-riba awareness among students. However, its success requires strengthening teachers’ capacities, enhancing multi-stakeholder collaboration, and adapting curricula to the dynamics of the digital financial ecosystem. This study contributes to the development of value-based educational models that are responsive to contemporary economic challenges faced by younger generations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing tolerance values through multicultural Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in public schools. Employing a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design, the research was conducted in three public senior high schools located in urban and semi-urban areas. Data were collected through participant observation (12 classroom sessions in each school), in-depth interviews with IRE teachers and students, and analysis of instructional documents. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that the internalization of tolerance values was achieved through three main strategies: (1) the integration of multicultural content into moral education and social jurisprudence (fiqh al-mu‘āmalah) materials; (2) collaborative project-based learning involving interfaith and intercultural engagement; and (3) reflective habituation through spiritual journals and ethical discussions. Supporting factors included teachers’ pedagogical competence, supportive school policies, and an inclusive social climate. The primary challenges were limited instructional time, resistance stemming from narrow textual interpretations, and insufficient teacher training in multicultural educational approaches. This study contributes theoretically to the development of contextual Islamic Religious Education models and provides practical guidance for implementing tolerance education in public schools. It is recommended that teachers’ capacities be strengthened through continuous professional development programs and that tolerance-related attitude assessments be integrated into the Merdeka Curriculum framework.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate and analyze a local wisdom-based Islamic character education model for fostering moderate attitudes among students at MA Diniyyah Al-Azhar Bungo, Jambi. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected over a six-month period through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The participants included the madrasah principal, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers, students, and local customary leaders. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis technique, supported by source and method triangulation to ensure trustworthiness. The findings reveal that the integration of Jambi Malay local wisdom values—such as adat bersendi syarak, syarak bersendi kitabullah (custom founded upon Islamic law, and Islamic law founded upon the Qur’an), deliberative traditions (musyawarah), and the spirit of communal solidarity (salingka nagari)—into the hidden curriculum, contextual learning practices, and character habituation programs successfully strengthened four pillars of religious moderation: tawassuth (moderation), tasamuh (tolerance), i‘tidal (justice and balance), and muwatanah (citizenship). The resulting model consists of five strategic components: (1) identifying local values aligned with Islamic principles; (2) integrating these values into lesson plans and student profile strengthening projects; (3) implementing community-based character habituation programs; (4) positioning teachers as uswatun hasanah (role models); and (5) conducting multidimensional authentic assessments. These findings contribute to the development of a contextual Islamic Religious Education pedagogy that is aligned with the national agenda of religious moderation and adaptable to madrasahs in culturally diverse settings. Future studies are recommended to test the model quantitatively and longitudinally to validate its long-term impact on students’ religious attitudes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in shaping Sharia business ethics among the millennial generation and to identify effective mechanisms for value internalization within the context of the digital economy. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the study involved 384 millennial respondents (aged 25–40 years) working as entrepreneurs or professionals in the creative economy and Islamic finance sectors across three major urban areas in Indonesia. The quantitative phase was complemented by in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with 15 participants. Quantitative data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis supported by NVivo 14. The findings indicate that the intensity of Islamic Religious Education significantly influences adherence to Sharia business ethics (β = 0.412, p < 0.001). The internalization of religious values serves as a partial mediator (β = 0.287), while digital literacy functions as a positive moderator (β = 0.193). Qualitative findings reveal three major themes: (1) the contextualization of Islamic Religious Education content from a predominantly doctrinal approach toward entrepreneurship case-based learning; (2) ethical dilemmas within platform-based business ecosystems; and (3) the role of communities and mentorship in strengthening the consistency of ethical behavior. The study concludes that Islamic Religious Education has substantial potential to foster Sharia business ethics when delivered through an applied and contextual approach, integrated with digital literacy, and supported by a collaborative learning ecosystem. The contribution of this study lies in the development of an integrative model that connects value internalization theory, the psychology of religious education, and Islamic economics within the context of the millennial generation.

Abstract

Generation Z faces challenges arising from ideological polarization, digital disruption, and identity fragmentation that threaten social cohesion. In this context, strengthening religious moderation has become a strategic necessity for safeguarding the nation’s ideological resilience. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in fostering religious moderation among Generation Z students at MTsN 2 Bungo, Bungo Regency, Jambi. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis of curricula and instructional modules. The participants included Islamic Religious Education teachers, students from Grades VII–IX, and the madrasah principal, who were selected purposively. The findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education serves as an agent for the internalization of moderation values through three main dimensions: (1) the integration of the concept of wasathiyyah (Islamic moderation) into instructional materials and the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project; (2) the implementation of dialogic learning practices that cultivate empathy, active tolerance, and ethical discussion skills; and (3) the enhancement of digital-religious literacy to counter radical narratives in cyberspace. The results suggest that the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education lies not merely in the transmission of normative knowledge but also in the formation of a contextual, critical, and inclusive religious habitus. The study recommends strengthening the pedagogical competencies of Islamic Religious Education teachers within the framework of religious moderation, developing attitude assessment instruments integrated with digital learning ecosystems, and promoting policy synergy among the Ministry of Religious Affairs, schools, and media literacy communities. Practically, the findings emphasize the need to transform Islamic Religious Education from a doctrinal approach into a participatory learning model that is responsive to the characteristics of Generation Z.

Abstract

The transportation sector is the largest contributor to air pollution in urban areas due to the extensive use of fossil fuels. This study aims to analyze the effect of spark plug types and variations in electrode gap distance on the exhaust emission levels of Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Hydrocarbons (HC) in a 2008 Toyota Limo. The testing parameters utilized three types of spark plugs nickel, platinum, and iridium with variations in gap distances: standard (0.9 mm–1.1 mm), narrow (0.5 mm), and wide (1.5 mm) across various engine speeds (RPM). The research method involved direct testing using a Gas Analyzer at the Motor Vehicle Testing Technical Service Unit (UPT-PKB) in Padang Pariaman Regency. The collected data, comprising CO and HC emission results, were analyzed to determine the combustion efficiency within the combustion chamber. The results indicate that the spark plug gap distance has a more significant impact on emissions than the spark plug material itself. Using the standard gap distance consistently yielded the best emission results across all spark plug types. Overall, the iridium spark plug with a 1.1 mm standard gap produced the lowest emission levels, specifically 0.36% for CO and 55 ppm for HC at 2000 RPM. This proves that premium electrode materials produce a more focused and powerful spark, leading to more complete and environmentally friendly combustion, provided they are supported by the manufacturer's recommended gap distance

Abstract

This study was motivated by the increasing use of TikTok as a social media platform that has influenced children's communication patterns and language use in everyday life. It aims to describe the functions of language, the forms of illocutionary speech acts, and the reflection of children's pragmatic development in spoken language as represented in the TikTok content of @Shabiraalula&Ayah. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design. The data consisted of the spoken utterances of an elementary school-aged child extracted from three TikTok videos published on the @Shabiraalula&Ayah account. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and verbatim transcription, and subsequently analyzed using Halliday's theory of language functions and Searle's speech act theory within the frameworks of pragmatics and the sociolinguistics of digital media. The findings revealed five language functions: representational, interactional, heuristic, regulatory, and personal, with the representational function being the most dominant. Furthermore, the study identified assertive, expressive, and directive illocutionary speech acts, with expressive and assertive acts occurring most frequently. These findings indicate that children are able to use language contextually to convey information, express emotions, and establish social interactions within digital communication environments.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) emphasizes the provision of inclusive and quality education. However, many educational institutions, especially vocational schools in developing countries, continue to face challenges in implementing sustainable human resource management (Sustainable HRM). This study aims to examine the influence of digital HRM, Green HRM, teacher well-being, inclusivity, and sustainable leadership on Sustainable HRM and its contribution to the achievement of SDG 4 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Methods: This research employed a quantitative explanatory design with a causal approach. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to 60 teachers from two vocational schools that had adopted digital HRM and sustainability practices. The analysis utilized Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 to test the validity, reliability, and causal relationships among constructs. Findings: The results revealed that sustainable leadership had the strongest positive effect on Sustainable HRM (β = 0.45, p < 0.001), followed by digital HRM (β = 0.35, p < 0.001), Green HRM (β = 0.28, p < 0.001), teacher well-being (β = 0.22, p = 0.004), and inclusivity (β = 0.19, p = 0.013). Moreover, Sustainable HRM significantly influenced the achievement of SDG 4 (β = 0.52, p < 0.001). The model accounted for 67% of the variance in Sustainable HRM and 52% in SDG 4, demonstrating strong explanatory power. Conclusion: The study provides empirical evidence that sustainable leadership, digitalization, and environmentally responsible HRM practices are critical in strengthening Sustainable HRM within vocational schools. In turn, Sustainable HRM substantially contributes to achieving SDG 4 by promoting inclusive and high-quality education. Policy implications highlight the importance of enhancing teacher welfare, inclusivity programs, and Green HRM initiatives to advance educational sustainability in Indonesia.
