Abstract

Maritime transportation is a crucial element of a nation's large-scale shipment system, facilitating the movement of goods both within and beyond its borders. Major port cities like Semarang, home to the Semarang Container Terminal (Terminal Peti Kemas Semarang or TPKS), have witnessed a surge in container traffic for imports and exports. In this study, quantitative and qualitative data were collected from 72 respondents through questionnaires, interviews, observations, literature review, and documentation. Based on empirical evidence and a research model involving multiple linear regressions, independent variables, including physical conditions, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, individually and collectively have a significant and positive impact on customer satisfaction. Recommendations for TPKS management include enhancing service quality by providing precise services, improving professionalism, enhancing responsiveness, and ensuring clear communication to prevent unexpected costs. This research aids TPKS management in improving service quality and customer satisfaction, with a focus on key dimensions.

Abstract

The simultaneous legislative and presidential elections in Indonesia in 2019 offer a defining opportunity to gauge the maturity of political elites and the electorate in practicing democracy. Transparent and integrity-rich elections can solidify Indonesia's democratic consolidation, while their failure may jeopardize the democratization process. Money politics, a pressing issue in Indonesian elections, undermines electoral integrity, breeds corruption, and erodes democratic principles. This paper explores the multifaceted issue of money politics and presents a progressive approach to mitigate it through constitutional and legal reforms. The study identifies key problems, such as the undue influence of wealth, the weakening of political parties, and campaign funding opacity, proposing a series of progressive regulatory measures, including transitioning to a more competitive electoral system that empowers political parties, limiting campaign funding sources to curtail the influence of affluent donors, regulating electronic campaign money transactions for enhanced transparency, prohibiting corrupt candidates from participating in elections, advocating for more inclusive and transparent coalition-building among political parties, and suggesting the revocation of election winners by the Constitutional Court in cases of election fraud like money politics. These reforms aim to address the entrenched issue of money politics, fostering fairer, more democratic, and transparent electoral processes that empower political parties and engage the electorate in the quest for democratic ideals.

Abstract

This study explores the legend of Princess Mandalika and its significance as a symbol of gender struggle among the Sasak tribe on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. Data collection methods include observations, interviews, and document analysis. The study also incorporates data from social media platforms such as YouTube, Tik Tok, and Facebook, which feature the legend of Princess Mandalika in Lombok. The analysis employs hermeneutic techniques to interpret the legend's meaning in the context of gender struggle for Sasak women and utilizes semiotic theory to uncover symbols within the legend. This research is driven by the enduring oral traditions within the Sasak farming community, focusing on the folklore surrounding the legend of Princess Mandalika. The findings suggest that the gender struggle for equality, as portrayed in the Legend of Princess Mandalika, still encounters sociocultural barriers. The story highlights the sacrifices made by Mandalika, a king's daughter, as she chose to preserve her honor and kingdom by sacrificing herself in the sea. This act symbolizes the spirit of the Sasak women's gender struggle to maintain harmony and safety. In Sasak culture, the Merariq tradition serves as a conflict resolution method for addressing gender bias against Sasak women. The research underscores that Sasak women continue to fight for equal rights, and their struggle reflects the community's perspective that such rights must be earned.

Abstract

The Kijang Port in Riau, marked by heavy congestion and high traffic density in sea transportation, operates in an era of fierce competition, not only from domestic but also international competitors due to the influence of free trade. In this context, businesses strive to enhance their resource utilization efficiency to secure a competitive edge. Notably, employee performance stands at the core of organizational success, significantly affected by various factors, including work motivation, job rotation, and career development. This study explores these elements and their impact on employee performance at the Kijang Port. The findings of the research showcase work motivation as the most influential factor in driving employee performance, supported by its positive and significant relationship. Job rotation and career development also exhibit positive and significant effects on employee performance, although they rank below work motivation in terms of influence. The study recommends that organizations and management at the Kijang Port prioritize strategies for enhancing work motivation among employees and consider approaches to promote job rotation and facilitate career development. Addressing these factors has the potential to lead to improved overall performance and productivity, underscoring the importance of fostering work motivation, job rotation, and career development as strategies for optimizing employee performance at the Kijang Port, Riau Islands.

Abstract

The enactment of Law No. 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Province of Papua reflects the political will of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia towards the people of Papua. This decision is based on the consideration that the governance and development implementation in the province of Papua, while integrated with Indonesia, has not fully met the sense of justice, achieved prosperity, enforced the rule of law, and has not fully respected human rights, especially those of the indigenous Papuans. The legal research conducted in this study is normative legal research, focusing on examining norms or regulations related to the research object. Law No. 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Province of Papua represents the ideals and goals of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia in building a fair, prosperous, and prosperous Papuan society based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. The reality is that in the implementation of special autonomy, there are many deviations from the basic mandate of special autonomy. As a result, the Papuan people still feel left behind in a dilemmatic situation, unable to fully enjoy the benefits of special autonomy. This is because there is no significant improvement in welfare, peace conditions have not arrived, and basic rights are not adequately respected. The Papua Provincial People's Consultative Assembly (DPRP) is a regional representative institution that acts as an organ of the regional government in the province of Papua. The Papua People's Consultative Assembly has the task and authority to absorb, collect, accommodate, and follow up on the aspirations of the people. In accordance with the mandate of the Special Autonomy Law for the province of Papua, the Papua People's Consultative Assembly has the function of conveying the aspirations of the Papuan people regarding development and the expansion of new autonomous regions in the province of Papua to the People's Consultative Assembly (DPR RI).

Abstract

Public speaking skills offer numerous advantages in enhancing achievement and prestige. Individuals with adept public speaking abilities often garner accolades for their achievements. Moreover, within societal contexts, those proficient in public speaking are more likely to secure esteemed positions and leadership roles. Consequently, mastery of public speaking holds paramount importance in an individual's life. Aspiring teachers, especially students, must possess the capability to effectively communicate, present, and engage in public speaking activities. This study employs a quantitative approach through experimental research methods, utilizing a combined one-group pretest-posttest design. Public speaking proficiency is assessed through video-recorded practice tests, with peer evaluations focusing on content mastery, systematic presentation, performance aspects (body language, facial expressions, poise, confidence, composure, and attire appropriateness), fluency, and language usage. The pretest score averaged 2.45, while the posttest score averaged 3.65, yielding an N-Gain of 0.77. This supports the hypothesis that differences exist in students' public speaking abilities before and after employing the performance assessment-based collaboration model. The data affirms the effectiveness of the collaboration model in enhancing students' public speaking skills.
