Abstract

Objective: The objective of the current study was to reveal most prominent causes of    Socotri language and propose scientific and practical solutions. It explores the historical roots of Socotri as an ancient South Arabian language predating Classical Arabic and examines its relationship with Arabic linguistic structures. Theoretical framework: This study examines the phonological and morphological phenomena in Socotra, focusing on the reasons for its many deviations, which are due to the presence of an ancient South Arabian language whose roots extend back to the pre-Northern Arabic or Classical Arabic, and which still exists till today, and is used among the inhabitants of the island-Socotra. It also identifies possible solutions to them, based on the theories of phonetics and morphology, and the analysis of linguistic differences affected by historical, social, and environmental factors. Literature review: The review addresses previous studies on phonetic and morphological phenomena in Socotra, highlighting the contributions of scholars to this area. It also examines the theoretical foundations of these phenomena and their role in preserving them from deviations. Methods: The study adopts an inductive, analytical, and descriptive methodology, examining linguistic deviation in general, the relationship between the Socotri language and Arabic, and the phonetic and morphological deviations it contains, while presenting some proposals for addressing this phenomenon. Results: The results reveals that the difference in some sounds between Arabic and Socotra, the difference in some phonetic syllables, and the distribution of vowels in them are among the most important causes of phonetic and morphological deviation. Implications: The study's implications include language preservation, linguistic policy recommendations, and an enhanced understanding of Socotra’s linguistic diversity, contributing to broader discussions on aspects of languages and dialectology. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the most prominent areas of phonetic and morphological deviation in Socotra, a topic that has not been addressed in depth in previous studies.

Abstract

Objective: The dominance of Western civilization in various aspects of life, including politics, economics, and science, has created conditions in which Muslims experience an inferiority complex in the face of modern science. To overcome this, Muslim intellectuals initiated the concept of the Islamization of science as an effort to build a scientific system based on Islamic values. However, this idea has been criticized by several Muslim thinkers who consider that the Islamization of science approach tends to be ideological rather than methodological, and has the potential to create a dichotomy between Islam and global science. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework used in this study combines social psychology theories about inferiority complexes and Islamic educational theories that emphasize the importance of building knowledge through Islamic teachings without losing relevance in the global world. Literature Review: The literature reviewed in this study includes various works that discuss the Islamization of knowledge, critiques of the dominance of Western culture, and issues related to globalization and its impact on Muslim identity. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a discourse analysis method to critically examine the various perspectives that have developed regarding the Islamization of science. The data sources used come from literature studies, including the works of Muslim thinkers such as Syed Naquib al-Attas and Ismail Raji' al-Faruqi, as well as criticism from academics who highlight the limitations of this approach. Results: The results of the study show that although the Islamization of science attempts to restore the intellectual superiority of Muslims, this approach faces serious challenges, such as the lack of a transparent methodology, limited implementation in higher education, and the possibility of academic isolation from the global scientific community. Implications: Therefore, this study offers an alternative, more integrative approach, namely the reconstruction of the Islamic scientific paradigm that not only maintains Islamic values but can contribute to universal scientific discourse without getting caught up in the Islam vs West dichotomy. Novelty: This study presents a novel critique of the Islamization of knowledge by addressing the inferiority complex among Muslims in the face of Western scientific dominance. Unlike prior ideological approaches, it proposes a methodological reconstruction of the Islamic scientific paradigm that integrates Islamic values with global discourse, avoiding the Islam-versus-West dichotomy.

Abstract

Objective: This research was conducted to determine the SPF value in 2 different samples of sunscreen and identify factors that affected the failure to determine vitamin C contents in each sample. Theoretical framework: This research is grounded in the principles of cosmetic chemistry and analytical instrumentation. Sunscreen efficacy is evaluated through SPF measurement using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Vitamin C, a common antioxidant in sunscreens, requires precise analytical conditions for detection. Root cause analysis using the Fishbone Diagram identifies systematic errors in lab procedures, guiding improvements in cosmetic product testing and quality assurance. Literature review: Sunscreens are cosmetic preparations used to protect the skin from ultraviolet exposure to sunlight. The protective ability of sunscreen products is measured in terms of SPF (Sun Protection Factor). One of the many ingredients found in sunscreen is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is widely used in cosmetic formulations, due to its natural antioxidant content and its ability to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, as well as to enhance the skin regeneration process. Methods: The methodology used to determine the SPF value is UV Spectroscopy, and to analyze the problem, we conducted a root analysis using Kaoru Ishikawa’s fishbone diagram. Results: We found that the two samples contain low SPF values (MC: 2.514, DN: 1.913) which are contrary to compendia recommendations. Then for the analysis, six main root causes of vitamin C determination are identified. Implications: The findings emphasize the need for consistent analytical methods and improved quality control in cosmetic testing. Identifying the root causes of failure provides a basis for refining laboratory practices. The low SPF values also suggest a need for further evaluation of product formulation and labelling accuracy. Novelty: Our novelty in this research is the analysis of causes of failure within an experiment conducted in the lab.
