Abstract

Objective: The dominance of Western civilization in various aspects of life, including politics, economics, and science, has created conditions in which Muslims experience an inferiority complex in the face of modern science. To overcome this, Muslim intellectuals initiated the concept of the Islamization of science as an effort to build a scientific system based on Islamic values. However, this idea has been criticized by several Muslim thinkers who consider that the Islamization of science approach tends to be ideological rather than methodological, and has the potential to create a dichotomy between Islam and global science. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework used in this study combines social psychology theories about inferiority complexes and Islamic educational theories that emphasize the importance of building knowledge through Islamic teachings without losing relevance in the global world. Literature Review: The literature reviewed in this study includes various works that discuss the Islamization of knowledge, critiques of the dominance of Western culture, and issues related to globalization and its impact on Muslim identity. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a discourse analysis method to critically examine the various perspectives that have developed regarding the Islamization of science. The data sources used come from literature studies, including the works of Muslim thinkers such as Syed Naquib al-Attas and Ismail Raji' al-Faruqi, as well as criticism from academics who highlight the limitations of this approach. Results: The results of the study show that although the Islamization of science attempts to restore the intellectual superiority of Muslims, this approach faces serious challenges, such as the lack of a transparent methodology, limited implementation in higher education, and the possibility of academic isolation from the global scientific community. Implications: Therefore, this study offers an alternative, more integrative approach, namely the reconstruction of the Islamic scientific paradigm that not only maintains Islamic values but can contribute to universal scientific discourse without getting caught up in the Islam vs West dichotomy. Novelty: This study presents a novel critique of the Islamization of knowledge by addressing the inferiority complex among Muslims in the face of Western scientific dominance. Unlike prior ideological approaches, it proposes a methodological reconstruction of the Islamic scientific paradigm that integrates Islamic values with global discourse, avoiding the Islam-versus-West dichotomy.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to: (1) describe how to familiarize with Islamic manners in Early Childhood Education, PAUD (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini) students, (2) describe how to teach mastery of science competencies in PAUD students, and (3) describe the synergy between the habituation of Islamic manners and the mastery of science competencies through the application of the ICARE method in kindergarten students of grade B1 Shofa KB Islamic Kindergarten Al Azhar 28 Solo Baru. Theoretical framework: This research is based on the theoretical framework of constructivism which emphasizes the importance of the active role of children in building knowledge through meaningful social and environmental interactions. The ICARE (Introduction, Connect, Apply, Reflect, Extend) method is seen as aligned with this approach because it integrates cognitive and affective learning in a single set of fun and contextual activities. Literature review: Previous literature shows that habituation of character values from an early age has a significant impact on children's moral development, while mastery of science competencies is important to form the basis of logical and critical thinking. However, the integration of the two-in-one systematic learning approach is still rarely studied in depth. Methods: This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. The subjects of the study are teachers and parents of B1 grade students at KB Islamic Kindergarten Al Azhar 28 Solo Baru. Results: The results show that: (1) the habituation of Islamic manners can be carried out effectively through parental assistance using the ICARE method in a pleasant learning atmosphere, (2) the mastery of science competence can also be improved through the same approach, and (3) there is a positive synergy between the habituation of Islamic manners and the mastery of scientific competence with the application of the holistic ICARE method. Implications: The implication of this study is the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents in character-based learning and science simultaneously. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Islamic manners and scientific competence in an ICARE-based methodological approach at the PAUD level, which has not been widely studied before.

Abstract

Objective: This research was conducted to determine the SPF value in 2 different samples of sunscreen and identify factors that affected the failure to determine vitamin C contents in each sample. Theoretical framework: This research is grounded in the principles of cosmetic chemistry and analytical instrumentation. Sunscreen efficacy is evaluated through SPF measurement using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Vitamin C, a common antioxidant in sunscreens, requires precise analytical conditions for detection. Root cause analysis using the Fishbone Diagram identifies systematic errors in lab procedures, guiding improvements in cosmetic product testing and quality assurance. Literature review: Sunscreens are cosmetic preparations used to protect the skin from ultraviolet exposure to sunlight. The protective ability of sunscreen products is measured in terms of SPF (Sun Protection Factor). One of the many ingredients found in sunscreen is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is widely used in cosmetic formulations, due to its natural antioxidant content and its ability to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, as well as to enhance the skin regeneration process. Methods: The methodology used to determine the SPF value is UV Spectroscopy, and to analyze the problem, we conducted a root analysis using Kaoru Ishikawa’s fishbone diagram. Results: We found that the two samples contain low SPF values (MC: 2.514, DN: 1.913) which are contrary to compendia recommendations. Then for the analysis, six main root causes of vitamin C determination are identified. Implications: The findings emphasize the need for consistent analytical methods and improved quality control in cosmetic testing. Identifying the root causes of failure provides a basis for refining laboratory practices. The low SPF values also suggest a need for further evaluation of product formulation and labelling accuracy. Novelty: Our novelty in this research is the analysis of causes of failure within an experiment conducted in the lab.

Abstract

Objective: Marketing strategies play a crucial role in influencing consumer behavior, and one of the commonly employed techniques is the use of marketing gimmicks. This study aims to analyze the impact of marketing gimmicks on consumer buying interest while examining the values of honesty and consistency in their application from the perspective of Sharia business principles. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this research is based on Islamic business ethics, particularly the principles of honesty (shidq) and consistency (istiqamah) in trade. Literature review: The literature review explores various studies on marketing strategies, consumer behavior, and ethical considerations in business, particularly within the framework of Islamic economics. Methods: This study employs a qualitative field research method. Data collection was conducted through direct interviews with fruit traders and their customers to obtain firsthand insights into marketing gimmicks used in the marketplace. The analysis utilizes an interpretative approach to understand the alignment of these gimmicks with Islamic business ethics. Results: The findings indicate that many fruit traders implement marketing gimmicks that can sometimes mislead consumers, particularly in price determination and product presentation. While these gimmicks effectively attract consumer interest, they often lack transparency, leading to misunderstandings about the actual value of the products. The study highlights that such practices contradict the fundamental Sharia business principles of honesty and consistency, which emphasize truthful representation and ethical sales practices. Implications: The implications of this research suggest the need for increased awareness and education among traders regarding ethical marketing strategies that align with Islamic values. Policymakers and business associations could also play a role in promoting fair trade practices that uphold integrity in business transactions. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its integration of Islamic business ethics with modern marketing strategies.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore the right to education for Afghan women through the lens of Islamic law, while critically examining the cultural, religious, social, and political factors that influence its implementation. The research responds to the ongoing marginalization of Afghan women's educational rights, which are often restricted based on specific interpretations of Islamic teachings. These interpretations, frequently shaped by local traditions and political agendas, have been used to justify the denial or limitation of girls' and women's access to education. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this study is grounded in Islamic legal principles such as Maslahah (public interest), Adl (justice), and the obligation of seeking knowledge for all believers. This framework is juxtaposed with Afghanistan's socio-political context, revealing tensions between authentic Islamic teachings and their politicized applications. Literature review: The literature review highlights the fluctuating access to education for Afghan women, influenced by changes in governance, societal norms, and religious authority. While Islamic jurisprudence historically supports gender-inclusive education, local cultural legacies and political instability have distorted its application. Methods: Methodologically, this research employs a qualitative-descriptive design. Primary data was collected through closed-ended questionnaires distributed to educators and female students. Secondary data from academic literature, media reports, and international organizational publications enriched the analysis. Results: The findings indicate that the denial of Afghan women's educational rights stems more from cultural and political pressures than from genuine Islamic legal doctrine. The study reveals a significant gap between the core values of Islamic law and the current practices affecting women’s access to education in Afghanistan. Implications: The implications of this research are both theoretical and practical. It challenges prevailing narratives and encourages policymakers and religious authorities to realign educational policies with the authentic values of Islam. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its integrated approach, combining Islamic legal analysis with socio-political critique, offering fresh insights into an often misunderstood issue.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to explore the strategies for cultivating religious character in marginal and minority school contexts, focusing on Senior High Schools in the Kupang Archipelago, namely Muhammadiyah Kupang High School and Geovani Kupang High School. The study is motivated by growing concerns about declining moral values among students, where education appears overly focused on academics and detached from students’ personal development. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework draws from character education theory, especially Lickona’s dimensions of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action, integrated with local values such as religious teachings, Pancasila, and Indonesian cultural heritage. Literature review: Literature on character education in marginalized and religiously diverse settings was reviewed, highlighting both the challenges and potential strategies that can be adapted to local sociocultural dynamics. Method: Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation at both institutions. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Results: The findings reveal that Muhammadiyah Kupang High School emphasizes habituation, direct teaching, exemplary role models, motivational efforts, and the enforcement of school regulations. Meanwhile, Geovani Kupang High School applies teaching, modelling, setting moral priorities, practising selected priorities, and reflective activities. Both schools foster cognitive (moral knowing) and affective (moral loving) aspects of character but differ in developing the psychomotor aspect (moral action), which is only evident in Muhammadiyah High School. Implications: The behavioral impact observed includes more active, cheerful, and cooperative students at Muhammadiyah High School, where inclusive values and shared responsibilities are emphasized. In contrast, students at Geovani High School appear more disciplined and neat, but some show lower engagement and joy, possibly due to their minority status and stricter school norms. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its comparative analysis of religious character education in minority and marginal settings, contributing new insights to the discourse on inclusive and adaptive moral education strategies.

Abstract

Objective: Explain the synonyms of the words in the Qur'an related to arrogance, especially the words istikbar, anger, mukhtalan, and fakhuran, as well as analyze the semantic relationship between the words. Theoretical framework: A semantic study in Arabic linguistics, especially the theory of synonyms (al-tarāduf) in the study of the meaning of words in the Qur'an, as well as a thematic interpretation approach to words that connote arrogance in sacred texts. Literature review: A previous study of synonyms in the Qur'an, the use of arrogant words in the context of Qur'anic verses, as well as mufasir's interpretation of the meaning of istikbar, anger, mukhtalan, and fakhuran in various classical and contemporary tafsir books. Methods: Qualitative research with a library research approach, using primary data in the form of verses of the Qur'an containing the words istikbar, anger, mukhtalan, and fakhuran, and supported by interpretations as secondary data. Results: The results of the study show that istikbar describes a kufr attitude that rejects and degrades Allah, His teachings, and His Messenger. Marah shows the condition of a person who is too late in joy to display arrogance. Mukhtalan comes from the word imaginary, describing a person who is controlled by the illusion of self-superiority and arrogance. Meanwhile, fakhuran refers to the behavior of boasting about outward things such as wealth and social status. These four words have different meanings of arrogance according to their context in the Qur'an. Implications: This study enriches the semantic understanding of the Qur'an, especially about the words that reflect arrogance, so that it can be used in the study of interpretation, Islamic moral education, and Islamic linguistic studies. Novelty: An in-depth thematic and semantic analysis of the four synonymous words in the Qur'an that connote arrogance, by showing the differentiation in the meaning and context of the use of each word in detail.
