Abstract

Kabupaten Aceh Jaya is a very potential Aceh patchouli production center. The development of the patchouli industry sector in Aceh faces serious challenges, especially the capacity building of farmers towards good agriculture practices, and innovation and technology. This study aims to identify the level of empowerment of farmers and the affecting factors. The study employed a questionnaire survey to 88 samples from 383 populations. Data analysis used a descriptive method and chi-square test. The results show that a low level of farmer empowerment is predominantly. The weakest elements are the ability to cooperate and solidarity; meanwhile, the ability to overcome obstacles is the highest, followed by the awareness and desire to change, and the ability to increase capacity to gain access. Farmer's perceptions on the group institutions, and program intervention have a significant association with empowerment, while the perception to characteristics of the social systems has no relationship. Therefore, the role of empowerment innovation is necessary for capacity building.

Abstract

The marketing oil palm FFB is a process of the commodity flow accompanied by a transfer of ownership rights, creation of time utility, place utility, and form utility undertaken by marketing institutions that implement one or more marketing functions.  Selling of oil palm FFB by the farmers involve village middlemen, and wholesaler. This type of marketing implementation seems to have an influence on FFB price at farmer’s gate.  The results showed that marketing functions conducted by all marketing institutions were financing and risk-taking, while other marketing functions were done by individuals related to their position and requirement.  The total marketing margin of the traders was IDR 700,00 (63.64% of FFB price at the farm gate), while the farmer’s share was 61.11% from the FFB price at the processing plant.  There were two marketing channels of FFB in operation, the first included farmers – small traders – big traders – palm oil processing plant, and the second was farmers-big traders-palm oil processing plant. The second channel was more efficient, but the farmers prefer to use the first channel because their FFB production was not enough to fulfill the minimum selling required by the big traders. The majority of farmers still sell their FFB to village middlemen.

Abstract

Production risk management is important for production optimization. The objectives of this study are to 1) Examine the factors that affect the production of salak pondoh farming in Sleman Regency 2) analyse the magnitude of the production risk and what are the factors that influence the production risk of salak pondoh farming in Sleman Regency, and 3) develop appropriate risk management to be applied in salak pondoh farming in Sleman Regency. The respondents of this study were 30 salak pondoh farmers in Bangunkerto Village, Turi District, Sleman Regency. Interviews with respondents were carried out in October 2021. This study were analyzed using multiple regression analysis with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) model, while the risk level was analyzed using the coefficient of variation method. The results showed that the variables of organic fertilizer, number of workers, farming experience, plant age, and number of clumps significantly affected production. In contrast organic fertilizers and plant age have the potential to reduce the risk

Simple random sampling was defined as a sampling technique of every item in the population. The study was conducted out by utilizing a field interview technique with onion commodity questionnaires from farmers, collectors, suppliers, and merchants. The farmer group (X1) had a very significant effect on the growth of farmer institutions as a farmer's economic institution using a significant effect coefficient of 0.331 (p 0.001), then the beta coefficient was significant and the direction was positive. This a coefficient was influence of 0.205 (p>0.005), so that the association of farmer groups (X2) had no effect.

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has restricted social and physical mobility, such as using a mask during outdoor activities, applying hand sanitizer, washing hands, and maintaining health by exercising and controlling body intake. These restrictions also have caused the termination of forage subsidy by the milk processing industries. The “new normal” era requires farmers to secure self-sufficient forage. This research aims to 1; analyze the characteristic situation of the respondents regarding forage preservation technology in “new normal” adaptation, 2; analyze the insight and standpoints of the dairy farmers regarding forage preservation technology in “new normal” adaptation. The researchers used the descriptive analysis method and obtained 50 respondents by purposive sampling in Pujon District. The results showed that 63.70% of the respondents are “moderately informed," and 61.45% have "moderate standpoints". In conclusion, so it was concluded that the level of knowledge about forage feed preservation technology affected the attitude of farmers in applying forage feed preservation technology. the forage preservation technology is well-established and applicable among the dairy farmers in Pujon District.

Abstract

Dairy farming in East Java, particularly in Malang Regency, is supported by several districts such as Karangploso, Ngantang, Ngajum, and Pujon as the dairy production centers. Pujon district is one of the dairy production centers in Malang Regency, reaching 20,411 cattle. This research aims to describe the dairy farmers’ group dynamics condition and determine its group dynamics level. The location was purposively determined by considering the dairy center area in Malang Regency, where the majority population is dairy farmers. The researcher used the descriptive analysis method and selected 50 respondents by Purposive Sampling. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, the results showed that the majority of group dynamics is categorized as “high,” yet only two elements are categorized as “moderate,” namely group structure (70.3%) and group training and development (70,4%). In this view, the high number of group dynamics showed pride and satisfaction with their work performance regarding achieving the group’s goals. Also, good leadership will improve group effectiveness.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the participation of rice farmers in the rice insurance program in the Binamu district of Jeneponto Regency. The data sources for this study are primary data and secondary data. The sampling technique used in this research is the purposive sampling method, which is choosing a sample of farmers who actively participate in the rice farming insurance program. The number of farmers who are active in the program is 60 farmers and purposively all farmers are used as respondents. The data analysis method is multiple regression analysis. The results of this study show that the factors that significantly influence rice farmers' participation in the rice cultivation insurance program are land area, length of formal education, rice cultivation experience, and risk of losing rice cultivation. The wider the land ownership of rice, the higher the formal education level and the longer the rice cultivation experience, the less farmers will participate in the rice insurance program. The higher the risk of rice production, the higher the risk of rice cultivation. Farmers' participation in rice insurance programs has increased. Production risk is the most important factor that encourages farmers' high participation in the rice insurance system.

Abstract

Cisarua District produces the least amount of cow's milk among numerous cows' milk production centers in Bogor Regency. Additionally, the fluctuations in milk production caused by disease in dairy cattle are also known to occur in Cisarua District. The study aimed to determine the expected business income when a production risk exists. The cross-sectional data used in this study were obtained from 57 dairy cattle farmers with an average number of 4 lactating cows consisting of second lactating cows, third lactating cows, and pregnant cows. Business income was calculated using R/C ratio analysis, and the expected value of income when production risk exists was measured using expected return. The expected return value was positive, which was IDR 1,907,582. The value represents dairy cattle farmers were risk takers because they continued to run the dairy cattle farming business when a production risk existed. The probability of disease as a production risk factor demonstrated that the dairy cattle farming business in Cisarua District remained profitable.
