Abstract

The concept of supply chain management (SCM) has been widely used but is limited to industrial products, while in agriculture, especially fresh products, it has received little attention. In fact, when viewed from the characteristics of the product, agri-fresh supply chain management (FSCM) is very necessary. This study was carried out in addition to identifying the supply chain of sweet potato which is an important food crop in North Sumatra as well as being an additional reference in research that focuses on sweet potato commodities. This research was conducted in the area of Sei Beras Sekata, Sunggal, Deli Serdang. Respondents are actors in the supply chain, starting from farmers to consumers. The sample is determined through the snowball sampling technique because there is no sample frame. There were 29 informants in this study consisting of farmers, collectors, agents, traders and consumers. The research showed that there are three sweet potato supply chain lines, involving four marketing agencies. The first channel is a supply chain channel without intermediaries, meaning that farmers sell directly to consumers. The second channel is a channel with one intermediary, where farmers first sell sweet potatoes to retailers and then retailers sell to consumers. The third channel is the channel that has the longest chain, which involves collectors, agents, and retailers.

Abstract

This research aims to determine internal and external factors, formulate strategies, and decide the priority of agribusiness MSME sustainability strategies in Sukoharjo Regency in the new normal era. This research uses basic descriptive and analytical methods. A total of 28 key informants were selected purposively. Data collection was completed through in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using the IFE, EFE, IE, SWOT, and QSP matrices. The research results depict that the most essential strength is the support of experienced human resources with particular specialties and the most significant weakness is the limited business capital. Meanwhile, product diversification becomes the biggest opportunity and a decrease in production due to the COVID-19 pandemic serves as the most challenging threat. The IE matrix demonstrates that the position of agribusiness MSMEs in Sukoharjo Regency is in cell V, which means keeping and maintaining that can be done with product penetration and development strategies. Alternatives to agribusiness MSME sustainability strategies are building synergies to increase market share with online marketing; improving the quality of human resources through training; establishing partnerships with suppliers to suppress raw materials; strengthening quality control to maintain quality; innovating the product; maximizing the ability of human resources and the management of product competitiveness; introducing, promoting, and discounting products; and increasing partnerships with large businesses. In the new normal era, the priority of agribusiness MSME business sustainability strategy in Sukoharjo Regency is building synergies to improve the market with online marketing.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the actual role of rural cooperative institutions in reducing poverty through improving the performance of farming communities, especially rice farmers in rural areas. This study is a case study conducted in Sri Kuncoro Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Bengkulu Tengah Regency (as the selected research sample location). Data were collected through the interview, observation, focus group discussion, and documentation methods. Sampling was done by the purposive sampling method. The data collected were analyzed by qualitative (descriptive) and quantitative methods. The results showed that through quantitative analysis it was found that the depth (P1) and severity (P2) indexes of poverty in rural rice farming communities were P1 = 0.023 and P2 = 0.004 (both in the low category). Through qualitative analysis, it is revealed that the role of cooperative institutions in rural areas is still low, which has implications for weak efforts to reduce poverty in rice farming communities (as evidenced by the decrease in the depth and severity indexes of poverty which has not reached the expected level).

Abstract

The increasing demand for organic vegetables is a business opportunity. Organic farmer groups use this opportunity to supply organic vegetables in the Yogyakarta area. This study aims to determine farmers' motivation level in organic vegetable cultivation and the relationship between internal and external factors with farmer motivation. This research is descriptive. The study focused on the Tranggula Farmers Group and the Merapi Organic Farmers Group as farmer groups that supply organic vegetables in several supermarkets in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The analysis method uses class intervals and Spearman correlation. The motivations in this study include economic, social, and self-actualization motivations. The results showed that farmers' motivation for actualization is a priority in cultivating organic vegetables. There are 63.3% of farmers who have very high actualization motivation, 26.7% of farmers who have very high social motivation, and 16.7% of farmers who have a very high economic motivation. Farmers' motivation level in organic vegetable cultivation is in the high category of 60% and very high at 40%. The experience of farmers has a weak and contradictory relationship with the motivation of farmers to cultivate organic vegetables. Meanwhile, other internal factors, namely age, education, and external factors consisting of the provision of production facilities, assistance, and market guarantees, have no relationship with the motivation of farmers to cultivate organic vegetables.

Abstract

KPS-Bogor is one of the largest dairy cooperatives in Indonesia. The cooperativeconsists of 127 active farmers, produces an average of 78.8 liters of milk/person/day. However, the quantity and quality of milk produced is very volatile which causes fluctuations in the income of dairy farmers. Considered the role of cooperative to agricultural development, and its unique nature, risk analysis research is an interesting yet rarely conducted. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to analyze the agribusiness risks faced by the KPS-Bogor, and to analyze risk priorities faced by the KPS-Bogor. This research is a qualitative research, using Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fishbone Diagram. The study results show that the cooperative faces 6 sources of risk that have the potential to cause losses , namely production risk (bacteria and the absence of SOPs for farming method), market risk (Dairy Processing Industry’s (DPI) market structure), financial risk (delayed payment of its member’s debt), legal risk (GMP standardization is not yet implemented), and human resource risk (low commitment of the workers). FMEA and Fishbone Diagram show that the low commitment of the workers, the absence of farming SOP, and the DPI market structure are the most risky sources which have highest level of severity, occurrence and detection that can cause losses to KPS-Bogor. Unussualy, this research found human resource risk valued higher than the production risk factor, which mainly become the main risk source in agricultural business.

Abstract

The regeneration of agricultural workers has decreased in the last 10 years, this is feared to have an impact on food security in Indonesia. There are several things that cause the absence of young workers in agricultural sector, including how agricultural values are passed on to their children. This study will focus on (1) identifying communication frequency between parents and youth in context of agricultural work (2) identifying actors that communicate with rural youth in context of agricultural work. (3) Identifying the discussion topics between parents and rural youth in context of agricultural work.  This research was carried out in Ciasmara Village, Bogor Regency from June 2020 - August 2021. Ciasmara Village was chosen as the research location because the village is one of the rice barns in Bogor Regency and the largest rice contributor to the capital city area. A total of 120 village youths were selected as research respondents through purposive sampling method. The results showed that parents still communicated about agriculture to their children in the context of rice cultivation and how to harvest rice. Both of these information are the most frequently discussed information because they are closely related to family labor to save production costs.
