Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels due to the body's inability to regulate glucose levels. DM has two types: type 1 diabetes, which results from an autoimmune reaction against pancreatic cell proteins, and type 2 diabetes, which is caused by a combination of genetic factors related to insulin secretion disorders and environmental factors such as obesity and overeating. One alternative treatment involves using black turmeric (Curcuma caesia), known for its antidiabetic properties. This study aims to conduct a phytochemical screening and determine the effective dose of methanol extract of black turmeric in reducing blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced mice. The research used an experimental method with a glucometer. A total of 24 mice were divided into six groups, with four mice in each group. The phytochemical screening results showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA, followed by the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test. The blood glucose measurements showed that Group 1 (Na-CMC 1%) had 224.25±41.61 mg/dl, Group II (glibenclamide 5 mg) had 101±4.78 mg/dl, Group III (dose 1, 10 mg/kgBW) had 175.25±17.25 mg/dl, Group IV (dose 2, 25 mg/kgBW) had 149.75±9.10 mg/dl, and Group V (dose 3, 40 mg/kgBW) had 115±10.16 mg/dl. Based on the study results, the methanol extract of black turmeric at dose 3 (40 mg/kgBW) effectively reduced blood glucose levels over 15 days, making it the most effective dose.

Abstract

Pineapple peel waste is not utilized properly, but which of ingredients such as vitamin C and flavonoid. It can be used as cosmetic ingredients such as lip balm preparations. The purpose of this study was to find out the good pineapple peel extract lip balm. The pineapple peel extract was formulated in the form of lip balm using various concentrations of pineapple peel extract 1, 2, and 3% evaluating the good physical properties of the lip balm preparation. The evaluation of lip balm were evaluated in formulation of organoleptic, melting point, homogenity, pH, spread ability and iritasion. Results showed that the testing each achieved good. The homogeneity test shows that each preparation is homogeneous. The pH of F1, F2, and F3 were fulfilled in at a range 4,5-6,5. The spread ability of F1, F2 and F3 were 5.34, 6.2 and 5.74, respectively. The melting point of each preparation melts well. Lip balm obtaind not cause irritation to the skin. The best formula were F2 at concentration of 2% because it had a texture that is not too hard, had a good pH and had good spread ability.

Abstract

Currently, there are still too many traders who do not pay attention to the health and even the safety of their buyers. So many studies relevant to this matter can be attributed to exposure to one of the intestinal parasites, namely Cryptosporidium sp. with the name of the disease is Crytosporidiosis. This disease is triggered by several things, one of which is the lack of implementation of hygiene grades in daily life and food processing patterns by food, beverage, or even snack traders. Unhealthy or even unsafe food or beverages can be characterized by exposure to or contamination from parasites, bacteria, chemical compounds, and even viruses that cause more than 200 diseases. Starting from food poisoning to diarrhea and even cancer. With the proper implementation of food sanitation, the implementation of hygiene grades properly, can minimize exposure to this parasite through food. Food Born Diseases are one of the biggest causes of parasite exposure in the world, because food processing patterns are sometimes not good and do not prioritize hygiene grade.

Abstract

Free radicals are components that lack one electron, so they are very reactive toward other components to complement their electron deficiency. Free radicals have become a frightening component for many people because of the problems they cause, such as premature aging and various degenerative diseases. However, free radicals and the reactions they form can be inhibited by antioxidant compounds. According to WHO (World Health Organization), in 2011 showed that several degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis, stroke, diabetes mellitus, and others are included in the top ten causes of human death worldwide. To prevent degenerative diseases, antioxidants are needed, which can neutralize free radicals. The function of antioxidants is to help the defense system in the body when disease-generating elements enter and attack the body. Dragon fruit skin, jicama, and guava seeds contain flavonoids to prevent skin damage due to free radicals, and phenolic substances are effective in inhibiting the process of melanin formation. Aims to determine the antioxidant activity test of methanol extract made from dragon fruit skin, Sengkang and guava seeds using the DPPH method. This research is laboratory experimental research. This research is laboratory experimental research. Dragon fruit skin, Sengkang and guava seeds are dried and mashed and then macerated with a methanol solution. Furthermore, testing of antioxidant activity was carried out using the DPPH method (1,1-Dyphenyl-2-Pycrylhydrazyl) and using a microplate reader at a wavelength of 520 nm. The results of the antioxidant activity test of the methanol extract on the antioxidant test of the dragon fruit peel extract sample obtained an IC50₋ value of 286.816 ppm which was included in the weak group; the antioxidant test of the Sengkang extract sample obtained an IC50- value of 31.218 ppm which was included in the weak group. Very strong, the antioxidant test of the guava seed extract sample obtained an IC50- value of 15.958 ppm which is included in the very strong group.

Abstract

The increasingly widespread use of earphones among students can have a negative impact on hearing health if used for a long time and at high volume. Informatics Engineering students, who often interact with audio technology, are a group at risk of experiencing hearing loss due to unsafe earphone use. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of Informatics Engineering students at Abdurrab University about the dangers of earphone use in 2025. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The research sample consisted of 87 respondents taken using cluster techniques from a total population of 132 students. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, and the data results were analyzed univariately. The results showed that the level of student knowledge about the dangers of earphone use was in the sufficient category for 40 respondents (46%), the good category for 27 respondents (31%), and the poor category for 20 respondents (23%). The conclusion of this study is that the majority of Informatics Engineering students at Abdurrab University have sufficient knowledge about the dangers of earphone use. This indicates the need for further education regarding the safe use of earphones to prevent hearing loss in the future.
