Abstract

Background:  Generation Z is a group raised in a digital ecosystem and exposed to social media early on. Their dependence on online interactions makes them vulnerable to social comparison and digital social pressure. This condition risks reinforcing patterns of social avoidance associated with social anxiety. Aim:  To describe the level of social anxiety among Generation Z in Bandung City based on the variables of gender, age, employment status, duration of social media use, and type of social media used. Method: The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using an online questionnaire and the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS-SR) from 8 to 15 May 2025, and were subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to categorize the levels of social anxiety among Generation Z in Bandung. Results: Most respondents were found to experience social anxiety in the moderate category, with 56.38% classified as moderate, followed by 21.58% marked and 18.06% mild. The moderate level also dominated across gender, age, employment status, duration of social media use, and preferred platforms, indicating that moderate social anxiety is consistently the most prevalent among Generation Z in Bandung. Conclusion: These results reflect that social anxiety is a fairly common issue among Generation Z and tends to be evenly distributed across various individual characteristics and digital behaviors. This study recommends the need for education regarding healthy social media use and strengthening social skills to prevent the development of more severe social anxiety symptoms.

Abstract

Background: Chronic pain is a common and distressing experience for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis, yet its complexity and management remain insufficiently explored. Understanding how patients perceive and manage this pain is crucial for developing holistic nursing interventions. Aim: To explore the lived experiences of chronic pain management among patients receiving long-term hemodialysis. Method: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, using in-depth semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of hemodialysis patients. Data were analyzed thematically to identify core patterns and meanings. Results: Three themes emerged: (1) perceived meaning and impact of pain during hemodialysis, reflecting patients’ physical discomfort, emotional distress, and disruption of daily life; (2) patterns and characteristics of pain, described as fluctuating in intensity, duration, and location throughout the hemodialysis process; and (3) complementary and supportive strategies for pain management, including spiritual practices, relaxation, distraction techniques, and reliance on family support. The findings underscore that pain during hemodialysis is not only a physical phenomenon but also a psychosocial and spiritual challenge. Nurses play a pivotal role in recognizing patients’ multidimensional pain experiences and in integrating complementary approaches alongside conventional care. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of patient-centered, culturally sensitive strategies to enhance pain management and quality of life in ESRD care. It is recommended that future nursing practice and policies incorporate complementary therapies and patient education programs to strengthen pain management strategies in hemodialysis units.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease characterized by persistently elevated blood glucose levels exceeding the normal range of 70–150 mg/dL. Effective diabetes management consists of five key components: education, nutritional therapy, physical activity (including diabetic exercises), pharmacological treatment, and regular blood glucose monitoring. Diabetic exercise, when tailored to an individual’s age and physical condition, can help lower blood glucose levels, enhance stamina, and maintain healthy body weight in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The recommended duration of diabetic exercise is at least 30 minutes per session, three to four times per week for adults, and 60 minutes with similar frequency for children and adolescents. Aim:  To analyze the effect of diabetic exercise (diabetes mellitus gymnastics) on blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 20 individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus, selected through purposive sampling based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood glucose levels were measured before and after the diabetic exercise intervention. Data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test to determine the statistical significance of the differences observed. Results: The findings revealed a significant reduction in blood glucose levels following the diabetic exercise intervention. The mean random blood glucose (RBG) level before the intervention was 202.85 mg/dL, and after the intervention, it decreased to 164.50 mg/dL, with a mean difference of 38.35 mg/dL. Statistical analysis using the paired t-test produced a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that diabetic exercise had a statistically significant effect in lowering average RBG levels among participants. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that diabetic exercise effectively reduces blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. These findings support the integration of structured physical activity as a safe, feasible, and non-pharmacological intervention within diabetes management programs, particularly at the primary healthcare level.

Abstract

Background: The academic performance of nursing students in Nigeria has been hindered by ineffective teaching strategies, largely due to limited integration of innovative approaches in the teaching-learning process. Aim:   This study investigated the regression analysis of nursing students perceive effectiveness of internet-based teaching-learning strategies on the teaching-learning process in North-central Nigeria. Method:  A cross-sectional quantitative research design was adopted to assess the effectiveness of Internet-based teaching-learning strategies among nursing students across three institutions in North-central Nigeria. A total of 400 students were proportionately selected from a population of 1,267. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis to determine the relationship between Internet-based teaching-learning strategies and students’ academic performance. Results:  Results showed that 73.5% of students testified that Internet-based teaching-learning strategies, with 79.5% indicating that these innovations made learning easier. Additionally, 73.3% of students believed that Internet-based teaching-learning strategies improved their overall academic performance. Significant proportion of students perceived mobile teaching-learning (69.8%), online game-based learning (72.5%), artificial intelligence (73.5%), and digital content platforms as effective tools for facilitating teaching-learning activities. Conclusion:  This study concludes that regression coefficients for the entire four internets-based strategies are found to be significant with all the p-values < 0.05. This implies that there is a significant linear relationship in the effective use of internet-based teaching-learning and the academic performance of the students. Based on these findings, this study recommends that internet-based teaching-learning strategies should be prioritized to complement the traditional teaching approaches in nursing education. The necessary internet and technological facilities should be provided to support high-quality education.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition that is often referred to as a silent killer because it shows no symptoms until serious complications such as stroke or heart disease occur. Risk factors for hypertension include age, lifestyle, obesity, and psychological aspects such as personality type. Type A personalities who tend to be ambitious, competitive and prone to stress are associated with increased blood pressure, while Type B personalities are more relaxed and have a lower risk. This study aimed to understand the relationship between personality type and the incidence of hypertension in Kunjang Health Center. This study used a case-control design. The population of this study were hypertensive patients at the Kunjang Health Center who had been sampled using simple random sampling technique, resulting in 38 respondents who were divided into hypertensive and non-hypertensive groups. Data collection instruments were carried out through blood pressure measurements using a digital sphygmomanometer and a personality type questionnaire. After that, testing was carried out with the Chi-Square test. The results of bivariate analysis showed a significance value of 0.00, which means there is an association between personality type and the incidence of hypertension. Individuals with Type A personality have a higher risk than Type B personality. Higher stress in Type A personality can increase adrenaline and cortisol hormones, which have an impact on increasing blood pressure. Therefore, health education on stress management and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle are needed to prevent and control hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can lead to hypertension, especially in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Relaxation techniques, such as Guided Imagery and Slow, Deep Breathing, may help reduce blood pressure. Aims: To assess the effectiveness of the combined Guided Imagery and Slow Deep Breathing relaxation techniques in lowering blood pressure among patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 38 patients, 19 in each group, were purposively sampled using specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The normality of systolic and diastolic blood pressure data was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, which indicated a normal distribution. Statistical analysis was performed using paired t-test and independent t-test. Results: The intervention group experienced a mean reduction of 10.11 mmHg in systolic blood pressure (SD = 7.44), while the control group showed a mean change of -7.74 mmHg (SD = 5.50). For diastolic blood pressure, the intervention group decreased by a mean of 9.11 mmHg (SD = 7.36), compared to a change of -7.47 mmHg (SD = 6.28) in the control group. The independent t-test revealed statistically significant differences between groups for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with p-values of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results demonstrate that the combined Guided Imagery and Slow Deep Breathing intervention significantly lowers blood pressure in patients undergoing hemodialysis for chronic kidney disease. Conclusion: The combined relaxation techniques significantly reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis, supporting their use as non-pharmacological interventions for hypertension management.
