Abstract

The 2022 SSGI results showed the prevalence of underweight toddlers in Indonesia was 17.1%, with West Java at 14.2%, and Tasikmalaya City at 13%. Data from the 2023 Health Office recorded 15,804 underweight toddlers (8.43%), with the highest number of cases occurring in the Karanganyar and Cibeureum Community Health Centers. This situation emphasizes the importance of increasing the capacity of integrated health post (Posyandu) cadres in the use of anthropometric tools to ensure more accurate nutritional data. The goal is to improve cadres' knowledge and skills in monitoring toddler growth and support the acceleration of Primary Service Integration (ILP). The activity method was carried out through socialization, training, and practical simulations using standard anthropometric tools (digital scales, infantometers, stadiometers, digital sphygmomanometers, and LILA tapes) with the assistance of a team of lecturers. The activities at the Harapan Bunda and Mekarsari Posyandus were attended by Posyandu cadres, representatives from the sub-district, neighborhood associations (RT), and community associations (RW). Participants showed high enthusiasm, were able to try using the tools independently, and were more confident in recording measurement results on the Child Health Card (KMS). This program is expected to produce more accurate nutritional data to support early detection and prevention of underweight.

Abstract

Uniformity in writing diagnoses based on medical terminology, in accordance with the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), is a crucial factor in determining the accuracy of diagnosis codes. Inaccurate use of medical terminology can make it difficult for medical records officers to determine the lead term for a diagnosis, resulting in inaccurate diagnosis codes and implications for the validity of health service data and the accuracy of INA-CBG rates. This activity is a form of Community Service (PKM) aimed at enhancing the competence of medical records officers in understanding medical terminology, disease classification and codification, and coding audits, as an effort to improve clinical coder skills. The methods used were socialization and training, accompanied by coding audit simulations. The activity was carried out at the Jatibaru Community Health Center in Bima City on July 3, 2023, involving five medical records officers. The activity was evaluated through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in participants' understanding. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' understanding from an average of 60% in the pre-test to 95% in the post-test after participating in the activity. These results indicate that the outreach and training were effective in improving the clinical coding competency of medical records officers. It is hoped that similar activities can be implemented on an ongoing basis to maintain and improve the quality of diagnostic coding and healthcare services in primary healthcare facilities.

Abstract

The development of health information technology has undergone a significant transformation. One important aspect that has changed is the method of screening or early detection of diseases, which is often carried out using applications that are easily accessible to the public. Given that cases of tuberculosis, hypertension, low vision, and mental health issues are on the rise due to lifestyle changes. This activity was carried out to introduce the health screening application owned by the government for widespread use in the community. The Methods Community service activities were carried out by giving presentations to the target audience (Al-Rifa'ie High School students) and asking them to practise screening using the introduced application. The Results showed 76% of participants were unaware of the existence of screening applications for these diseases. The provision of health information related to screening through presentations and practical demonstrations was effective in ensuring that participants understood the material because they participated actively.

Abstract

Introduction: Anemia during pregnancy affects 32.3% of women globally and 27.7% in Indonesia, significantly increasing risks of maternal hemorrhage and neonatal complications. While Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) is the standard intervention, its effectiveness is often hampered by low iron bioavailability and gastrointestinal side effects such as constipation. Banana blossom (Musa paradisiaca) contains high iron (up to 56.4 mg/100g) and natural Vitamin C as a cofactor, offering a synergistic approach to optimize iron absorption. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of banana blossom as a nutrition-based complementary therapy alongside MMS on hemoglobin (Hb) changes and clinical symptom improvement among anemic pregnant women. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design was conducted on 50 pregnant women in their II and III trimesters at Praktek Mandiri Bidan Sumidjah Ipung, Malang. Subjects were divided into an intervention group (MMS + 100g sautéed banana blossom/day) and a control group (MMS only) for 14 days. Hb levels were measured using EasyTouch GCHb, while clinical symptoms (fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath) were assessed via a structured Likert scale (0–10).Results: The intervention group showed a substantial mean Hb increase of 1.35 g/dL (9.81 ± 0.65 to 11.16 ± 0.58 g/dL), successfully raising the average status above the WHO anemia threshold (>11 g/dL). In contrast, the control group only showed an increase of 0.44 g/dL (9.89 ± 0.72 to 10.33 ± 0.68 g/dL). Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference between groups (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the intervention group reported a more progressive reduction in clinical symptom scores (5.0 points) compared to the control group (2.0 points). Notably, the intervention group experienced zero reports of constipation, compared to 16% in the control group, attributed to the high dietary fiber content (52–54%) of banana blossom. Conclusions: Integrating banana blossom as a nutrition-based complementary therapy significantly accelerates hemoglobin recovery and alleviates clinical symptoms in anemic pregnant women when paired with MMS.

Abstract

Employee turnover remains a major challenge for hospitals because it can affect service quality, organizational stability, and operational efficiency. Strengthening employee conscientiousness, employee well-being, and intention to stay is considered an important strategy to support employee retention and reduce turnover risk. The objectives of this community service activity aimed to improve participants’ perceptions and understanding of conscientiousness, employee well-being, and intention to stay among managerial personnel at X Hospital, Surabaya. The methods of the activity were conducted through interactive socialization, dissemination, and discussions. Participants consisted of six managerial members. Evaluation used participation and the perception of members. Pretest and posttest questionnaires through Google Forms were used to assess the perception. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test and paired t-test to assess differences in participants’ perceptions before and after the socialization. The results showed an increase in the mean scores of all measured indicators after the educational intervention. The mean pretest score increased from 9.067 to 9.667 in the posttest. However, the paired t-test indicated that the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.314). The findings suggested that participants already had a high level of understanding before the intervention, while the activity reinforced and enriched their existing knowledge. The community service activity was successfully implemented and contributed to strengthening participants’ understanding of conscientiousness, employee well-being, and intention to stay. Continuous educational programs are recommended to support employee retention strategies and reduce turnover in hospitals.

Abstract

Home gardens are an accessible and sustainable resource for improving household food security and family nutrition, particularly among farming communities. However, many households in Lolanan Village have not fully utilized their home gardens due to limited knowledge and skills in productive, environmentally friendly cultivation practices. This community service program aimed to enhance community knowledge and awareness of home garden utilization to support household food security and nutrition. A participatory action approach was implemented on October 1, 2024, involving farming families in Lolanan Village. The activities included interactive education, group discussions, and practical demonstrations on vegetable cultivation, vertical gardening, polybag planting, household organic compost production, and medicinal plant cultivation. Program evaluation was conducted through observation, oral questioning, and participant discussions. The program improved participants' knowledge and understanding of the benefits of home gardens, crop diversification, organic fertilizer use, and simple cultivation techniques suitable for limited land. Interactive learning methods encouraged active participation and increased participants' confidence in implementing sustainable gardening practices. Collaboration among community members, village authorities, lecturers, and students further supported the successful implementation of the program. Participatory education and community empowerment effectively strengthened community awareness of home garden utilization as a strategy to improve household food security and family nutrition. Continuous mentoring and collaboration with local stakeholders are recommended to sustain the program's long-term impact.
