Abstract

An ACL injury has been the most common injury for several years. Athletes and players who play the game have the same risk factor to have it. Injury prevention programs must be conducted among teams and could remove team injury costs in medical staff and rehabilitation. This review aims to conduct one prevention program for ACL injury in Indonesian soccer athletes. In Indonesia, this program needs support from all stakeholders, including the coach, chief executor manager, and the medical team. The risk factor of ACL injury is divided into external and internal factors, which have to be the main focus of the medical team to process a program. Prevention program for an ACL injury includes strengthening, agility, plyometrics, balance, and proper warm-up. Those types of exercise should be implemented in intervention among athletes, but they still need their perspectives and health condition.

Abstract

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are defined as complaints or disorders that cause discomfort to the musculoskeletal system. During lecture activities, students are mostly in a static posture. Static and repetitive muscle loading when sitting for a long period can cause muscle fatigue due to the accumulation of lactic acid. Besides, it produces discomfort or pain in the musculoskeletal system. The purpose of the research is to describe an overview of musculoskeletal disorders in undergraduate students of the Bachelor and Professional Program of Physical Therapy Faculty of Medicine Udayana University during the lecture. Methods: The method of this research is descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional, which has been carried out from October to November 2021. This research used a total sampling technique. The participants were undergraduate students of the Bachelor and Professional of Physical Therapy Program, College of Medicine, Universitas Udayana, with a total of 196 participants who met the established criteria. Researchers measured musculoskeletal disorders using a Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. Analysis of research data using univariate analysis, namely age, gender, body mass index, study period, duration of the study, and musculoskeletal disorders. Results: The results showed that musculoskeletal disorders were mostly complained of by students, namely the waist 61.7%, then the back 59%, followed by complaints in the lower neck 53.6% and upper neck 47.4% while the lowest complaints occurred in the left leg with a percentage of 5.6%. Conclusion: A total of 177 (90.3%) students had musculoskeletal disorders during lectures and 19 (9.7%) did not experience musculoskeletal disorders during lectures, and 94.4% had a low risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Abstract

Background: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is brought on by the neurobiology process. This disorder ultimately results in the inability to communicate with others, a lack of interest, and repetitive behavior. One of the things that are most often encountered in children with ASD is reduced eye contact. Which, of course, will impact the severity of social deficits in the future. Patients with this behavior condition also experience motor impairments, particularly in fine motor abilities and eye contact difficulties. Naturally, there is a relationship between eye contact and fine motor abilities, where the intensity of the person's attention will undoubtedly predict fine motor abilities. Both abilities can be improved by solving puzzles. Playing this game might enhance focus, attentiveness, and fine motor abilities. This study aims to understand how puzzle games affect the attention and fine motor abilities of children with ASD. Case Description: The patient was five years and six months old with a genetic background and was diagnosed with ASD. This study was conducted at the Intan Child Physiotherapy Clinic (IFA), Boyolali. The length of time the child can maintain eye contact with objects during an attention evaluation will be used by the therapist to gauge the fine motor skills and assess how well the youngster grasps and pinches objects. Observational data-gathering approaches are employed throughout therapy. Results: The patient's capacity for eye contact attention was worth 1 second, whereas the capacity for attention to objects was 30 seconds. The number for grabbing was three (plenty), whereas the value for pinching was one and a half (very little). Conclusion: There was no significant improvement in both attentional and fine motor skills.

Abstract

Background: The activity of using a smartphone for a long time in a static position and bad posture, will result in Mechanical neck pain (MNP), which is known as a neck condition caused by change in the cervical curve to flatten due to overload on the muscles, ligaments, joints, and bones of the neck at the back and the muscles of the upper back and shoulders. The effectiveness of adding ultrasound to the McKenzie’s neck exercise (MNE) intervention to reduce MNP. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental method with a pre and post-two-group design. The number of samples was 20 research subjects experiencing chronic non-specific MNP, not experiencing spondylolisthesis, fracture, and hernia nucleus pulposus in the cervical area. Group I was given the MNE and ultrasound, and group II was give MNE only. This research was conducted three times a week for four weeks at the Action and Hydrotherapy Laboratory. The measuring tool used is the northwick neck pain tool. Normality test using Shapiro Wilk test and homogeneity test using Lavene's test. Paired sample t-test was used to determine the effectiveness of the intervention of the two groups in reducing MNP, and an independent sample t-test was to see the difference in the effect of the intervention results of the two groups. Results: The characteristics of study respondents by age were in the average range of 19.7±0.9 years for group I and 19.6±0.6 years for group II. Based on other data, groups I and II decreased pain significantly after their respective treatments (p =0.04). There is no significant difference effect after interventions between the group I and group II (p >0.05). Conclusions: The program of MNE only effectively reduced MNP with the same good effect as the MNE with ultrasound therapy in subject with MNE. The addition of ultrasound to the MNE does not have a significant effect on pain reduction.

Abstract

Background: Surfing is a sport that requires alternating high, medium, and low intensity at one time. Surfing combines three phases, namely paddling, pop-up, and wave-ride. The surf pop-up phase is characterized by a change from a paddling position to a standing position on the surfboard in one dynamic motion. During this transition, a surfer must move 75% of his body weight in less than one second. Pop-up movement is a unique challenge for the human motor system because it must be done quickly, with sufficient strength, on a moving and unstable surface that requires the readiness of the bio motoric component to avoid injury. This study aimed to see the relationship between core muscles, leg arches, hamstring, and lumbar flexibility on pop-up ability among surfers. Methods: The research uses analytic observational with a cross-sectional approach. The number of samples was 80 people with inclusion criteria, men aged 20-40 years and at least one year of surfing experience. Core muscles were measured using the curl-up test, the footprint test measured leg arches, hamstring flexibility by the sit and reach test, lumbar flexibility by the modified Schober's test, and pop-up ability using the time to pop-up. The research was conducted in Badung regency. Results: This study showed a significant and strong relationship between core muscles (r= 0,57, p-value< 0.001), leg arches (rs= 0.33-0.43, p-values= 0.009 - <0.001), hamstring and lumbar flexibility (rs= 0.31-0.50, p-values= 0.013 - <0.001) on pop-up ability among surfers. Conclusion: There were significant relationships between the core muscles, leg arches, hamstring and lumbar flexibility on pop-up ability among surfers.

Abstract

Background: The risk of sports activities is injuries. There are two types of injury classification often experienced by athletes: acute trauma and overuse. The part of the body in sports that are quite common injuries due to body contact is the knee. Medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries were one of the most common knee injuries in sports. The role of physiotherapy in MCL injury conditions is to improve knee conditions in athletes, prevent re-current of injuries, help heal the athlete's condition after MCL injury with existing modalities and help restore the condition, which aims to make the athlete able to return to play in their sport. Methods: This study used library research which takes online and offline data sources to refer to books and scientific articles related to examination and physiotherapy intervention in the condition of MCL sprain injury. Results: Physiotherapists must carefully examine every symptom that appears by examining the basic function of motion, palpation, specific test with a valgus stress test, and functional evaluation in conditions of MCL sprain injury. Conclusions: In athletes, physiotherapy interventions must be graded, like reducing acute injury symptoms, exercising using tools, and reducing pain in the first phase; the second phase with increasing functional ability, flexibility, range of motion, and returning muscle strength; in the third phase, muscle strength must increase as before, returning agility, balance, and flexibility; furthermore, in the fourth phase, the athlete is prepared to return to sport with strength training, flexibility, agility, and sport-specific exercise.
