Abstract

Early childhood education is a crucial stage for stimulating cognitive development, thus requiring learning approaches suited to children’s characteristics. This study aims to examine the effects of the drill method, the Beyond Centers and Circle Time (BCCT) approach, and their combination on improving cognitive abilities of children aged 4–5 years at PAUD Mawar, Nusaniwe District, Ambon. The research employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design involving 50 children divided into two treatment groups. Data were collected through pretest and posttest based on cognitive indicators, then analyzed using t-test after fulfilling normality and homogeneity assumptions. Results indicated a significant difference between BCCT and drill groups, with BCCT yielding a higher mean score (75.00) compared to drill (67.11). These findings highlight that center-based learning is more effective in enhancing classification, symbol recognition, logical sequencing, and cause-effect reasoning than repetition strategies.

Abstract

The low teacher participation in the Guru Penggerak Program (GPP) raises concerns about its impact on pedagogical competence. This study analyzes the influence of GPP and achievement motivation on improving teachers' pedagogical competence in student-centered learning in Maluku Province. Using a correlational quantitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires targeting the 9th cohort of GPP teachers. Results show that both GPP and achievement motivation significantly affect pedagogical competence individually and jointly. This indicates that teachers involved in GPP tend to demonstrate stronger capabilities in designing safe, effective, and engaging learning environments. These findings support the importance of expanding and strengthening the implementation of GPP as a key strategy for enhancing teacher quality.

Abstract

The conversion of rice fields into non-agricultural areas poses a serious threat to food security, especially in urbanizing regions such as Bandung Regency. This study aims to map and predict land use changes up to 2035, while evaluating the effectiveness of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B) protection policies. The research employs a GIS–Cellular Automata-based spatial modeling approach combined with factor weighting through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Simulations were conducted under three scenarios: free (no policy), moderate (RTRW1), and optimistic (RTRW2). Findings indicate a substantial decrease in rice field areas across all scenarios: 12,773 ha (free), 11,211 ha (RTRW1), and 10,850 ha (RTRW2). Meanwhile, residential land expanded significantly, particularly under formal spatial planning scenarios. These trends reveal that while spatial plans can mitigate conversion rates, current protection measures remain insufficient to resist development pressure. Key driving factors of land conversion include accessibility, transportation infrastructure, and proximity to public facilities. This study concludes that strengthening spatially-based LP2B zoning and improving integration between spatial and food policies are critical. Without assertive and data-driven intervention, Bandung Regency risks losing its strategic role as a regional food production hub. The study offers strategic recommendations for long-term spatial planning that prioritizes sustainability and agricultural resilience.

Abstract

In the context of sustainable education within island regions, the integration of local ecological values and transformational leadership practices remains an important yet underexplored field of inquiry. This study focuses on the preservation of natural dyeing technology among the Alune community in Riring Village as a representation of local wisdom–based eco-pedagogy. The objective is to analyze the structure of indigenous knowledge, its transmission system, and its contribution to developing a model of transformational eco-leadership. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis conducted over six months. The findings reveal that traditional dyeing serves not only as a cultural and economic activity but also as an ecological learning process that cultivates moral responsibility, environmental spirituality, and intergenerational collaboration. This study extends transformational eco-leadership theory by integrating cultural and spiritual values into sustainable educational practice

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of educational quality management within island contexts characterized by limited infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and strong community social capital. The research focuses on identifying leadership patterns and social collaboration that shape the culture of quality in junior high schools across the Aru Selatan District, Maluku Islands. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis involving school principals, teachers, and school committees. The findings indicate that successful quality management is driven by transformational leadership integrating reflective values, community collaboration, and adaptation to geographic constraints. Community participation, regional policy support, and participatory practices serve as catalysts for strengthening school quality culture. The study contributes theoretically by extending transformational leadership into the context of island-based education

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the school environment as a learning resource and students’ academic achievement in geography at SMP Negeri 15 Ambon. The empirical gap in utilizing real environments as educational media highlights the need for an ecopedagogical approach contextualized within island-based education. The purpose of this study is to identify the contribution of the learning environment to students’ academic improvement and to assess the effectiveness of experiential-based learning practices. Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 30 students and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment test with SPSS version 22. The findings reveal a positive and significant correlation between the school environment and students’ learning outcomes (r = 0.674, p < 0.05). Empirical evidence indicates that students engaged in direct environmental interactions demonstrate enhanced conceptual understanding, motivation, and analytical competence. This study extends experiential learning and ecopedagogy theories into the Indonesian island education context.

Abstract

Within the framework of national education reform, teacher certification serves as a strategic instrument to enhance professional competence and pedagogical performance. This research was motivated by the limited empirical evidence explaining the relationship between certification, professional motivation, and teaching quality in Indonesia’s island-based regions. The study aims to examine the influence of teacher certification on professional motivation and its implications for instructional quality among junior high school teachers in Central Maluku Regency. Employing a mixed-methods convergent design, data were collected through a quantitative survey of 60 teachers and in-depth interviews with school principals and education supervisors. The findings indicate a significant positive correlation between certification and professional motivation (r = 0.673; p < 0.01), with a direct effect on teaching quality, particularly in instructional planning and reflective practice. Qualitative insights reveal that certification fosters teacher reflectivity, professional accountability, and peer collaboration grounded in local pela gandong values. Conceptually, this study extends transformational leadership theory into a context-specific framework of teacher professionalism within island education systems

Abstract

This study is grounded in the growing challenges of clean water management in small island regions, where ecological degradation and limited sanitation infrastructure threaten community health. Although water availability in Sumeith Pasinaro Village remains sufficient, its quality does not meet health standards, particularly in microbiological aspects. The study aims to analyze the relationship between household water demand and water quality while identifying social, ecological, and institutional factors influencing water sustainability. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and laboratory analysis from two sampling points at the Tupapa water source. The findings indicate that microbiological contamination results from poor sanitation awareness, degradation of catchment vegetation, and the absence of proper water treatment systems. Conversely, the physical and chemical quality remains acceptable. The study contributes to developing a community-based water management framework that integrates ecological conservation, sanitation education, and indigenous cultural values. These insights advance the theoretical understanding of socio-hydrological resilience in island contexts.
