Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials based on the pedagogical framework of Deep Learning. In the era of globalization and the industrial revolution 4.0, creative thinking as a 21st century skill is crucial, but students experience a "creativity crisis" due to the dominant memorization approach. Initial observations showed a low Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking as fluency, flexibility, and originality in Palopo, influenced by Bugis-Makassar cultural factors and limited resources. The research method used a systematic literature following PRISMA guidlines, analyzing 50 sources from the journal Scopus, the national journal SINTA, and seminar proceedings (2015-2025). Thematic analysis resulted in themes of deep learning concepts (Fullan, 2018), creativity indicators (Torrance, 1974), teaching material design, and implementation challenges. The results showed that deep learning with aware, meaningful, and encouraging elements increased creativity by up to 35% through thematic modules based on local culture, such as Bugis folklore and oil palm waste management projects. The ADDIE framework is proposed for development, in line with the Independent Curriculum. These teaching materials have the potential to address the stagnation of creativity, with recommendations for teacher training and contextual adaptation for replication in eastern Indonesia.

Abstract

This study employs Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework to analyze the types and layered meanings of Pamali (cultural taboos) within the Makassar-Gowa community of Indonesia. Using a case study with a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The findings revealed five categories of Pamali: Bad-Luck/Fortune, Sacred-Place, Manners & Social-Ethics, Attitudinal, and Religious/Time-Bound. Barthesian analysis demonstrates that these prohibitions operate at denotative (literal prohibition), connotative (moral/cultural value), and mythic (ideological) levels, functioning as an indigenous system of character education. The study concludes that Pamali was a dynamic semiotic pedagogy, transmitting values of respect, responsibility, and social harmony. This research offers a model for integrating local wisdom into culturally responsive education curricula.

Abstract

This literature review critically examines teaching practices that ignore diagnostic assessment results for student learning types. The study analyzed 20 research articles to identify the current state of diagnostic assessment implementation in differentiated learning, the pedagogical impacts of neglecting diagnostic assessment results, and conceptual recommendations for optimizing the integration of assessment results in differentiated instruction. The findings reveal varying stages of teachers’ conceptual understanding and implementation skills, with a significant gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Neglecting diagnostic assessment results negatively impacts learning effectiveness, motivation, and student achievement. Diagnostic assessment serves as the foundation for differentiated learning by mapping students’ learning readiness, interests, and learning style profiles. The study recommends developing adaptive learning media that systematically integrate diagnostic assessment results into differentiated instructional strategies. This innovative approach has the potential to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of learning while supporting the vision of student-centered education in the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) curriculum. The study contributes to the theoretical understanding of the relationship between diagnostic assessment and differentiated instruction and offers practical directions for future educational practices oriented towards individual learners’ needs.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to examine whether the Index Card Match learning model influences the mathematics learning motivation of seventh-grade students at SMPN 4 Majene. Two hypotheses were formulated for this study: (1) the application of the Index Card Match learning model has a significant impact on students’ motivation to learn mathematics (H1), and (2) the application of the Index Card Match learning model has no significant impact on students’ motivation to learn mathematics (H0). A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group approach was utilized to conduct the study. The hypothesis was tested through N-Gain analysis, revealing that the mean N-Gain score of the experimental group exceeded that of the control group. This finding suggests that the Index Card Match learning model resulted in a significantly greater improvement than the conventional direct instruction method. Statistical testing at the 0.05 significance level produced a sig value of 0.000 < 0.05, leading to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Index Card Match model has a significant positive influence on the mathematics learning motivation of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Majene.

Abstract

In political communication, language serves not only as a medium of communication but also as a strategic tool for diplomacy and image building. This study investigates the pragmatic politeness strategies employed by Prabowo Subianto in his United Nations General Assembly speech. This research aims to identify the types of pragmatic politeness strategies employed in his speech, uncover how these strategies reflect intercultural awareness and diplomatic intent. Guided by Searle’s (1979) speech act theory and Brown and Levinson’s (1987) politeness theory, this qualitative descriptive research analyzes the speech transcript through pragmatic analysis. The findings reveal that Prabowo utilizes four speech acts (assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive) and all politeness strategies (positive politeness, negative politeness, bald on record, and off record), such as solidarity, mitigating face threats in his speech to express solidarity, respect, and inclusivity toward a diverse global audience. These strategies reflect intercultural sensitivity by emphasizing respect, inclusivity, cooperation, aligning with the conventions of global political discourse, and achieving persuasive and diplomatic effects. Furthermore, the pragmatic functions of these strategies contribute to projecting Indonesia as a peace-oriented, collaborative, and globally responsible nation. The study highlights how pragmatic politeness in political communication serves diplomatic purposes, reinforces the role of language as a bridge in international relations. The study concludes that Prabowo’s strategic use of politeness is central to constructing Indonesia’s diplomatic identity as a collaborative and responsible global actor.

Abstract

This paper is a systematic literature review that aims to describe the thematic preferences of articles discussing the integration of mathematics and Islam published in Indonesian journals. The data were obtained from scientific journal articles retrieved through a search of mathematics education journals accredited at SINTA 1 and SINTA 2 using a systematic literature review procedure. A total of 56 articles were identified from these accredited journals. The search process applied predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, keyword-based screening, and full-text eligibility checks. Most publications originated from journals affiliated with universities that uphold religious values. The dominant research approach employed was Research and Development (R&D). The most common educational levels examined were Junior High Schools (SMP) and Islamic Junior High Schools (Madrasah Tsanawiyah/MTs). The topics of integration between mathematics and Islam predominantly centered on Islamic-integrated mathematics learning. These findings offer valuable guidance for educators, curriculum developers, and researchers in designing mathematics learning aligned with Islamic values and in enhancing culturally responsive mathematics education in Indonesia. This study also provides a systematic mapping of research on the integration of mathematics and Islam in SINTA-accredited journals, outlining the current state of the field and offering a comprehensive foundation for more diverse and robust future research in Islamic-integrated mathematics education.

Abstract

Technological advances in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era and the shift towards Society 5.0 require Vocational High Schools to produce graduates who are competent, relevant, and able to adapt to the dynamics of the modern workplace. This study aims to critically analyze the strategic role of vocational high schools in preparing human resources with optimal work readiness. Through a systematic review of 15 studies published between 2021 and 2025, this study identified four main themes: student work readiness, graduate competency relevance, curriculum challenges, and digital competency. The synthesis results indicate that graduate work readiness is shaped by the integration of technical competencies, employability skills, digital literacy, critical thinking skills, industrial practice experience, and psychological aspects such as career adaptability, with soft skills being the most dominant factor. This study also identified several obstacles that reduce graduate relevance, including mismatching competencies with industry needs, a less adaptive curriculum, low teacher digital readiness, and unsustainable industry partnerships. These findings emphasize the importance of curriculum synchronization, strengthening teachers’ pedagogical and digital competencies, optimizing fieldwork practices, and expanding school-industry collaboration. This study has limitations such as the limited number of studies, potential selection bias, and focus on the Indonesian context. Therefore, further research is recommended to test the effectiveness of the IVRM Model using mixed methods, assess the implementation of micro-credentials in various skill programs, and conduct longitudinal studies on the impact of teaching factory implementation and industry partnerships.

Abstract

Reflective learning journals are an active learning strategy designed to enhance metacognition and knowledge consolidation. This quasi-experimental study investigated the effect of reflective learning journals on cognitive learning outcomes and knowledge retention among 64 Grade XI science students in Indonesia. A pretest-posttest-retest control group design was employed. The experimental group (n=32) used structured learning journals with teacher feedback, while the control group (n=32) received conventional instruction. Cognitive learning outcomes and retention were measured using validated multiple-choice tests. Results indicated that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group on both the posttest (M=75.63 vs. M=59.84) and the retention test (M=76.25 vs. M=60.94). MANOVA confirmed a significant multivariate effect of the intervention (p < .001). The findings suggest that integrating reflective learning journals with feedback is an effective pedagogical strategy for enhancing both immediate learning and long-term retention in high school biology.”

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of organizational culture, transformational leadership, and managerial competence on educational quality through organizational behavior in public elementary schools in Serang City, Indonesia. A quantitative study employing an ex-post facto survey design was conducted with a sample of 291 public elementary school teachers selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through validated Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using path analysis to examine direct and mediating relationships among variables. The results indicate that organizational culture (β = 0.033, p < 0.001), transformational leadership (β = 0.095, p < 0.001), and managerial competence (β = 0.469, p < 0.001) significantly influence organizational behavior, which fully mediates their effects on educational quality (R² = 0.976). Among the predictors, transformational leadership demonstrates the strongest total effect on educational quality. The findings suggest that improving educational quality requires integrated leadership development, enhancement of managerial competence, and strengthening organizational culture through interventions that foster positive organizational behavior in schools. This study introduces organizational behavior as a critical mediating variable that explains how leadership, culture, and managerial competence collectively translate into educational quality improvement in public elementary school settings. The study contributes to educational management literature by providing empirical evidence of a comprehensive mediation model and offering practical insights for policymakers and school leaders in designing evidence-based strategies for sustainable school quality improvement.
